  • i dont like this version- i think greg laswell's version is so much better and more melancholy- i also prefer his angle and take on it.

  • i think last night you were driving circles around me..

  • One of the best songs of the 90s IMHO ...

  • haunting

  • Well this video is fantastic...but i'm very sad.

I'm fed up to find the original video censored for editorial issues.

But, in the Earth.......what they think? ...We don't buy song album 'couse we listen music on U.TUB ?

Sorry but we are able to take a look on original videos criptated (not only this of Hersh's song) in many other way...

  • Music should be free at least older stuff.

  • this songs too sad!!!

  • good times of The 90's MTV late nights.

  • This song....is just one of the greatest parts of my life...."I't's the blaze across my nightgown it's the phone's ring"

  • based on comments posted here i checked out Greg's version ready for something brilliant.

To be honest found it lazy, trite and hackneyed. It lacked the soul this original does ... n both Stipe's and Hersh's delivery.

  • @Funkedub

    Agree 100%

  • ok,, i listened to greg laswell,s version of this too,, but this seems to be the better version to me kirsten has a haunting voice in this one,, which cant be matched...

  • Agreed. I remember listening to this on the radio as a teen, and when it got to the harmony within the duet, I'd start to get chills.

  • Im usually against covers and tend to like originals much more.. however.. i do like greg laswell's version more!

  • Really? I'm guessing that's the version that was featured on a recent (here in the UK) version of Grey's Anatomy. I hadn't realised there was a cover out there and it didn't have the intentionally sad and haunting quality that this version has. I still can't decide which is best out of this or the pre-release version which is heavy on the cello but doesn't have Michael Stipe in it.

  • I like Greg Laswell's version much better than the original!

  • It's really sad that you think that.

  • the lyrics are amazing ....

  • I havent heard this song since I was in my freshman year in college

    I am 33 now

    brings back memories

  • Greg Laswell's version is enjoyable but i think he took a unique song and made it usual trite and idustrialized ... if you can appreciate this first version..well, good for you!

  • I was about 18 when I first heard that song. Now I'm 34 and happy I found it again :-)

  • Yes!! I found it!! I finally found it!! I first heard this song in Switzerland in 1998. I have been searching for this song on and off for 12 years and I finally found it!!!!!!!

  • nice

  • I was 17 when I fall in love with this song. I missed it and found it again here. Now I'm 31. I love this song so much.

  • @TeacherPond

I was 20 when I first heard it and now I'm 32. Incredible song! It's haunting ... 12 years it took to find it again, but I recognized it immediately when I heard it. Unbelievable!!

  • Loooooooooovvvvvveeeee this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one the best songs ever made, i mean this version from 1994. By the way, what the hell is dollhouse and who is Greg Laswell? Had to ask, sorry.

  • Doll house is a tv show that has its finale Friday night.. Lasted 2 seasons but I was hooked from the beginning.. I think the song was on the end of the very last episode of Season 1 which never aired on TV but is on the DVD.. and it was sang by Grig Laswell...

  • mmm... I mean it was on the ep.8 of the second season

  • thanks so much to put this version!!!

  • The most wonderful version..(to me)

  • I think this version is far superior to George Laswell's watered down commercial version, but people love mediocrity.

  • Screw that, it's a different style. Laswell's cover has more instrumentation and a cleaner sound, and one could argue that he's a better vocalist and did more with the melody than Hersh. On the other hand, Stipe brings a great deal to this track, and the simple instrumentation and dischord between guitar and vocals during the verse give it a distinctive, rough feel that you won't find in most music nowdays.

Both tracks are brilliant, the original song is so haunting. They're just different.

  • A better vocalist?! His voice is so blah, so void of feeling and energy. He conveys none of the emotion of that K.H. does. And, as for does more with the melody, she wrote the song, she's singing the melody the way it was meant to be sung.

  • Yeah, because improving on an original isn't something we should ever try to do... and his voice isn't dull, it's melancholy. Personally I feel like K.H. sounds tired when she sings, and that she has a very amateur, untrained sound.

  • Personally, I prefer Greg Laswell's version. He has more passion in his voice when singing it that emotionally draws me into the song. Don't get me wrong, this one is pretty haunting, but not exactly my cup of tea. Michael Stipe is incredible in it though, just wish I could hear him better. I'd really love to hear Michael sing it solo, THAT would amazing.

  • I wouldn't say the Greg Laswell version was better--just more accessible to the average person. I obsessed over it for a while, but came crawling back to the original. I think it takes a special crowd to appreciate the haunting simplicity and prefer the unique timing of this original version.

  • Thanks for the info mProk7, most appreciated.

  • If you are looking for the Dollhouse version it is Greg Laswell, so much better version!

  • i assume you mean this one is better of course. ;)

  • @gazelem37 agree with you it is better than the original one!

  • That cover pissed me off. Never heard heard of Greg Laswell before, and honestly I could care less if I never heard of him again.

  • who else found this from jensen's old section in laf? all the best tunes are on skate vids :)

  • There was a cover of it on Dollhouse tonight. Still, this version kicks its ass, of course, and Michael Stipe's contribution is haunting.

  • Yeah...at the end. Gotta love Alan Tudyk. ;)

  • That's where I found out about this song-dollhouse.

  • Yeah, me too. I heard it on the show, and its been stuck in my head since then. Great video, mProk7

  • Does anyone know where you can get hold of this song on cd? Its definately the best version of it... Hersh and Stipe... What a combo!!!!!!!

  • well its the first version...i think this song is in K.Hersh's album "Hips And Makers" (1994)..you can search for this..

  • in my apartment? lol...it's here somewhere...

  • thank you, I was searching this song for ages!

  • thanks for this video!

  • I didn't even know Greg Laswell's song was a cover of this! It sounds like it could be his original song.. I like this song but I love GL's version.

  • i like this - but something about the greg laswell has more powerful feeling to it. idk.

  • awesome!! :) :)

  • angels and demons

  • :-) (by Escher)
