Do NOT buy this laptop until the irregular fan issue is fixed (currently broken as of 5th Feb 2012)! The fan on many of the current models loudly turns on and off roughly every minute.
a lot of noise with the fan when I work only with the navigator. I don't recommend this laptop. I have had 2 latitude during this last 7 years and I'm not happy with this laptop
You can change the fan for 10 dollars.... This notebook is far better than a latitude. If you are using it for microsoft word then I guess a 400 dollar laptop will be enough. If you are using it for engineering and need performance the 2x intel core duo with a graphic card fx770 of supporting CUDA ,will quite outperform the latitude.
Its a nice laptop (looks wise), i love the size. The problem is though the GPU choices are horrible and it overheats. Also i hear there are way too many issues with its build quality... the plastic coming loose or off all together causing a rickety rig.

Sorry Tempus71 a latitude line is not the same as precision. Precision lines are high end laptops.

Try getting a refurbished m1640,
Despite wizzards questionable review its pretty much the same specs and hardware (with the exeption of the nvidia graphics card)

Sorry to nit-pick, but you got the processor and the graphics card the wrong way round.
