  • Wait? Pole Dancer? Where's your glitter?

  • wow! so informative! i am def one of those pple with fore arm pain and this has greatly reduced it! thank you!

  • You are welcome : )

  • This is one of the best, most useful pole vid's I've seen on YouTube. Have just started (I lie, I did a three week course more than 8 months ago, but only recently... 3 days... bought and began practicing regularly since then) and I'm having a lot of trouble with slippery grip. This exercise has been infinitely useful.

Also, I am in love with you! You are the cutest person ever.

  • Good luck on your journey : )

  • I'm not even a pole dancer, but this was pretty informative. I didn't know about the fascia connection with the hand.

  • This is good info if you live in a body ; )

  • Very informative, you seem like a great teacher!

  • funny video lets chat

    just moved new area pP

  • Very cool! It must work because you are one of the most fluid dancers out there!

  • You are an excellent teacher, you reming me of a modern dance deacher I had in college. The part about the outer two fingers connecting to the back was interesting to me because I get a lot of soreness along that line of fascia and I use my outer hand to grip a lot! I also have a fairly smooth dance style! I have issues with the thumb side of my right wrist specifically because I have had a bad habit of using it to grip. Great video, going in my favorites :)

  • Thankyou that was really interesting! I shall definitely give it a go :)

  • : ) Thanks. Saw your videos. Great pole work!

  • Melissa, I was scanning the PJ Forum and saw all of your posts and went looking for your videos on the Tube. Now I'm going to confess I was skeptical at the beginning of this video. But then I followed along and pressed down on the desk with the two different finger sets like you said--and was shocked to find that they yanked on different parts of the shoulder anatomy--one more frontwards in the armpit, the other around back of the shoulder blade. I couldn't believe it. OK, I'm sold on it now!

  • Glad you enjoyed the work and got something from it. Somatics are amazing.

  • I ran out of space before adding that Martial Arts teachers do a similar exercise in Tae Kwon Do or Aikido when they train you to "imagine" weight or heaviness sinking into the "T" stance of your feet. Somehow, you "will" your center of gravity downward, working with breath control, relaxing the hindfoot and buttocks lower. The idea is to become like a human "weeble" that wobbles, but stays righted when facing an opponent in competition. Might have applications for women's self defense , too!

  • wow really helpfull video thankyou thankyou thankyou was allso wondering if you had any tips for extra grip on the pole i have been using vodka?? and allso any tips on how to stop my hands from sweating??

  • Hi : ) Glad the video helped. On Alena Down's forum there are lots of tips for slippy hands. I don't do any of that though. We just use water mixed with a lot of rubbing alcohol to spray the poles and our hands, and we wash our hands really thoroughly. Beyond that, where you are in your menstrual cycle can make you more or less slippy. Good luck : )

  • Thank you so much for this video!

It's extremely helpful, and you break it down perfectly. You're a natural teacher:)

  • : ) Glad it helped you. I love teaching all somatic ideas and women's studies. Cheers M

  • That was a very helpful exercise. Thanks for posting, I'll definitely try it on my students. :)

  • Cheers : )

I'd love to know how it works out for you and your students. Mary Bond just emailed me and said she liked how I'd taught her work. That rocked!

  • thanks melissa, i think i keep hurting my elbow from over gripping i'l let you know if the somatic handprints help x

  • Poor elbow! So much tension in there for most people which is not needed, and deteriorates the joint.

  • very wel done as always malisa

  • Thanks : )

  • very wel done as always malisa
