NGUYEN van thock... comparing James Taylor to Carlos Santana & saying one is better than the other is UTTERLY Ludicrous!! 1st of all, they are NOTHing alike stylistically...they could NOt be more different. They are BOTh great at what they do.. let's just leave it at that. This whole competitive thing is just plain Stooopid!!!
Hi, thank you for your video presentation. I am considering buying an autoharp w/ 15 chords, but I'm not sure if that's ok. If my music usually includes the 7th's, do you think I need a 21 chord autoharp? Could you please answer me as soon as you can. Thanks, Donna
I so asppreciate this video! Is he playing Battle Hymn of the Republic on a diatonic autoharp? I like the idea of a diatonic, because I think they are easier to play, but then I'd have to buy a few autoharps, lol, which I am not necessarily opposed to doing. Joann Smith gives a pretty good explanation, but I've only seen her play one keyed to C.
SCARLETT .. I think what BB is doing, simply put, is getting rid of a bunch of the Chord bars
so he has more strings ringing. You 'll notice, if you see any close-ups, that his harps have only six or so chord bars.I believe he brings a bunch of different harps, tuned to different keys.. the result being a much richer sound that lets him pick out melodies & chords simultaneously. He sure is great at it, no?
Just had the extraordinary good fortune to see Bryan performing this evening in Snowden, Washington, in a beautiful sunset backyard house concert at the Bean Farm.
He's not just THE master of this beautiful instrument, he's a great, great singer, a tremendous stortyteller and one of the most likable and wise performers I've ever gotten to see. Great teacher too, as this video shows. May his light burn ever brighter.
If you get a video workshop, you can learn at home, at your own speed. Another plus is go to a festival that is autoharp - friendly, and there are many live workshops, plus one - on - ones.
That's a lovely tone, what sort of harp do you play (I was thinking a customised OS...but the wood looks too pretty)? I would love to see more of this! I taught myself to melody pick with bare fingers and now I need to relearn with good finger pick technique. This is very helpful.
That is an Orthey Harp. Look at them on the 'net. Join "cyberpluckers" on the 'net, and you can ask questions 'til you're blue in the face. Also, Bryan has a video that'll teach you at home!
Oh, that's a George Orthey 'harp. George lives in Perry County, PA just north of Harrisburg. TOP OF THE LINE.
