Check out Omar Drammeh in Latrikunda, The Gambia. Awesome artist. He can be found by the beach too. Omar's got a clip on Youtube. His email is omararts91@yahoo.com
I would be more proud if we acknowledge batik as world culture/heritage that originate from Indonesia instead of claiming batik belongs to Indonesia alone.
The melting pot that the artist uses at 1:18 , does anyone know where I can purchase one? I've looked all over the Internet and can't seem to find a Batik supply website that carries this type of melting pot.
Its the same one used for melting beauty wax that most parlours and salons carry for waxing off extra hair...its called a wax melter and is available at most beauty aid stores.
my favorite quote: "Occassionally she gets so absorbed in her work that she forgets to wear rubber gloves when working with the chemical dyes". Oh no!
actually malaysia is serumpun only with the north of sumatra and north of borneo.. not the whole indo islands (java, sulawesi, papua, maluku etc) like they always believe they are XP

'controversial Batik technique"? This is indeed how many American Batik "artists" do their work.Hardly controversial.

What does the "final crackle in brown" mean?
wittenfljm 1 year ago
It would have been good to have a close up of the work as the last shot to see how the crackling came out and the effect of the black.

Very interesting (and well done).. I'm assuming the wax is taken out at some point?

Do iron off all the wax at the end?
Pretty cool.

What I would like to know is: did she lay the second brush of wax all over her design? Is this necerssary and/or appropriate for a novice to do?
Brilliant tutorial by the way, thank you for uploading it!
