Nothing wrong with psychedelic but it ain't blues. Sean Costello is the definition of blues and soul. Guitar unmatched. Vocals raw and deep. Unfortunately he died young and never got the exposure he deserved.
Wonderful post! Terrific Guitar solos, soulful singing as well. I like this one, as well as the recent one with Steve Winwood at Madison Square Garden in 2008 or 2009 on YouTube.
I saw him live in 1998 and 2007 and was blown away by this cat!
Eric just slaughters that white Stratocaster, amazing tone and bends!!! Thank you!
i think this one here, along with the live performance of "groaning the blues" from the "nothing but the blues" documentary are... well the finest videos on youtube:)))
at least when it comes to Mr Clapton's... anyways.
thank you for puttin' it up, i never managed to find this concert anywhere...
@t0ut4ku Right on! That documentary is amazing. Also check out his playing on "Double Trouble" with Steve Winwood at MSG in the last couple of years (2009). Another amazing solo. I can also recommend his version of "I Shot the Sheriff" from 2004 Crossroads Blues festival on YouTube. Eric just tears up the guitar on that one as well. I have about 12 or so YouTube favorites of Eric Clapton - I can never get enough. :-)
wow ists in Dminor, i know it in Cminor. But the new Version with stevie einwood is in Dminor too.
its incredeble, i love Eric so much. He is a incredible singer and the best Guitar Player ever. But, jimmy page, jeff back, gary Moore, Mr. Monte Montgomery, Tommy Emmanuel.. are very good. But nobody, NOBODY is so good like our Eric. We all love him so much. he is my hero. My absolutly hero
Wow what a great performance I wish I could have seen one of these concerts! Thanks for posting! By the way if anybody could tell me wich scales he plays in this song or the original cover he did I would really appreciate it. I thought he was playing in C but I'm not so sure about it so if anybody knows it feel free to share the information! Keep it up SlowBluesInc you have great videos!
This version is in D minor. Just use your D minor pentatonic blues scale. Most of the earlier versions he played in 70s were in C minor but he plays it in D minor these days.
@bluesking17 and others: Just try it out ;) Most times Eric plays in a relative simple pentatonic scale. All you have to do is slide around your neck to find the right key :)
This has always been my favorite Clapton blues tune from a guitar playing point of view. Also there are many great performances of his own tune SAME OLD BLUES.
Clapton at his best. Too bad the sound and picture isn't better. This is one of Clapton's favorite blues tunes and it shows by the passion he puts into it. This is an Otis Rush masterpiece that Eric performs with as much soul and feeling as Otis does.
Wow, this version is even better than on the live "Just one Night" in 1980, i didn't think that would be possible. Eric never played better than during his Nothin' but the Blues Tour in 1995.
My favourite and where I think Eric was at his best is Derek&the Dominos. Not only because Layla. He's playing so powerful. When I listened that CD it blowed my mind away. And also at the Filmmore CD is he really great.Just listen 'Have You Ever Loved A Woman' or 'Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad' or 'Blues Power' then you know what I mean.
great,....you can also see a very good clapton on this channel playin' "steppin' out" live ,played on his 335

From the Cradle tour in middle 90's was, in my opinion, the best Clapton period. What a voice, what a guitar playing. Pure blues power.

@tappannie doesn't sound psychedelic at all to me. Isn't blues? Not sure what you're listening to here, bud.

More psychedelic than blues. Check out Sean Costello's many versions. They are the real deal, crazy brilliant and smoking hot.

Clapton was on during this song, really on. This version of the song gives me chills, and I'm sad that I don't have this as an mp3.

Clapton was at his best in cream, this isnt even close to some of his best stuff.
victor2775 3 years ago
Clapton was fantastic during Cream for sure. But in my opinion this is up there with any of his best stuff, and I've heard a ton of it.

MSG 2008 I should clarify, Eric with Steve Winwood.

Excellent song - Clapton pours himself into this tune. Otis Rush, right?
What tour/year? Is this version available on a cd or dvd?
