@tabletoppolecat because the AP voted alabama national champion after defeating penn state and because they played a harder schedule and lost earlier in the season than southern cal the UPI voted southern cal national champions so you can't have it both ways...either the upi doesn't count and bama's 1978 title does, or the upi title does count and so does bamas 1973 national title but if you go that route. your gonna have to try to discredit the ap poll, and good luck with that

@tabletoppolecat bowls were exhibitions back then...national titles were awarded before the bowl game. you can't go back and change that just because the rules are diffrent now.

alabama and stanford split the title but thats just the ncaa retroactive system alabama was declared champion by the college football researchers associaton, poling system, and national championship foundation and many others.
