My favorite movie ever! When I'm not breaking and riding horses, I always make it a point to watch Flicka once every now and then. :) Seriously, I've seen this movie at least 20 times and it's getting to the point where I can say the lines right before the actors do.. =) Love, love love this movie! Flicka two was great as well! My personal favorite was the first, cause it inspired me to start riding bareback and to break my first horse.

this is great movie but I'll never understand why the fixation with the halter and working in small spaces... I got my colt used to ropes and all human junk up in the mountains loose in the field with the herd. I only dared put a halter on once he trusted me enough to put junk on his face without so much as blink. I dunno, I just think it's safer for both parties involved to have enough room to express our trust in each other, or lack of...

if u really love horses u should no in the rodeo scenes several horses died painfully (including one that was kicked in the face by another horse after it fell down and had spasms and another that was shot for breaking its leg) and the trainers punched the horses to make them obey commands. it was attacked by animal rights groups and you wont see the 'no animals were harmed' tagline...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! If she had actually taken a jab from that mare, she would have been grounded and stunned. I really wish horse themed movies would show some REAL natural horsemanship, even in "time lapsed snippets" so it's more conceivable that she is training the horse, and not having some magical nonsensical connection. Maybe have the dad show her how to join up or show patience, rather than OH, wild horsie, oh ok she likes me now.

i just saw all 4 movies back to back (My Friend Flicka, Thunderhead Son of Flicka, Green Grass of Wyoming, and Flicka). The first 2 were the only true versions of the books. Green Grass was a film adaptation that only had some of the elements of the book. The 4th is "inspired" by the book but has most of the elements. All 4 were good but the 4th might be a little boring if you saw the 1st film because that was the same story but was a better movie. This was like a Hallmark TV version.

it was so funny when I watched this movie and when they started talking about the word 'flicka' and that it means 'pretty girl'. I'm from norway, and sweden is the closest country, so the languages are pretty similar, and flicka does only mean 'girl' not 'pretty girl' .. I love it when they use scandinavia in american movies, 'couse they always talks about the countries like they are in another galaxy or something :P I love the movie Flicka :D

yeah im probably gonna get yelled at for this but not the right way to approach an untrained horse. the old way of breaking and working with horses is silly. the newer idea's like round penning and join-up are confidence and trust builders that i wouldnt know how to work without.

horses died in the making of this movie =( 1 broke it leg in a 'herd running scene' cause they force the horses to run and they get scared & it tripped. the other got kicked in the head in the rodeo scence, and died intsanslly. dont believe me go to the shark website =(

it happened but there are strict guidelines in making movies with animals and they stayed to those guidelines, when you gallop any horse it can fall and break its leg. Heck just let one run in a pasture it can still happen horses are accidents waiting to happen.
