  • Deja fan depuis + de 20ans...splendide chanson sombre et nostalgique qui touche au + profond de nous....

  • CATS!!!!!

  • De noche todos los gatos son pardos!!

  • Any other songs by The Cure like this?

  • @OneShroomTooMany basically the whole of faith is quite similar, but apart from that I haven't heard any.

  • @isaacwscott Ah, thanks. This is actually the very first song by the Cure that I've ever heard! And if the whole album, Faith, is like this I think they have a new fan. ;)

  • OH MY GOD. I FINALLY FOUND IT!

  • Look at my user name :D song is about me!

  • The Cure in a tent 1981 Den Haag Malieveld and the drums coming out for 20 minutes Everybody waiting to get in. Cold and desperate rain falling on the policar mirror . My hotdog find his way .

  • I think that "bed amongst the stones" , "death cell", "cave" equal tomb

  • Listening this song on cementary at 1st November must be very exciting...

  • "all cats are grey" and "funeral party" are the best songs for coming days of death people

  • what a beatiful image of what death is like and what happens after that.

"In bed amongst the stones" -- having a coffin lowered into the ground...

"The columns are all men begging to crush me" -- looking up and having the dirt thrown over your coffin

"No shapes sail on the dark deep lakes and no flags wave me home" -- neither heaven nor hell is calling him home. he's just out there. and then he describes how it is:

"in the caves all cats are grey... the texture coats my skin. a single note

  • the original goth band. absolutely magnificent talent and great listening.

  • My sister's cat is black. Therefore, Robert Smith is a LIAR!!! XD

  • why do i feel like if i killed myself to this track it would be okay? epic and nothing but good...long live THE CURE................

  • this song is so amazingly perfect for making love.

  • This song makes me wish I was dead, but in a good way.

  • ** any way

  • Before everyone JUMPS on me, I'm not suggesting that the Cure anywhere alike BUT you might want to check out Antony & The Johnsons: Hope There's Someone

  • Wonderful

  • Robert says this song came from a dream he once had. I want to have that same Dream !!!! So mesmerizing !!!

  • Awww.... man, and i was just on my way out to a club as well (bright lights, part-poppers, day-glo colour scheme, induced smiles et al, as a opposed to a graveyard).

Think i might just stay at home now.

    draw the curtains.

  • one of The Cure's best songs imo. incredible atmosphere, so brooding

  • ANDREW BROUGHT ME HERE.

  • Robert Smith, Martin L.Gore & Ian Curtis are Gods !

  • Robert Smith Is God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful video! Nicely done.

  • i love how brits spell things!!! like "grAy" is "grEy" hahaha

  • @MCRhasAFireInside

¿pero eres miembro de la academia de la lengua?

  • i want this played at my funeral...not trying to sound like a morbid bastard but this song moves me in way that i just cant describe...haunting,ethereal,beautiful........

  • I think the lack of lyrics makes the few lines that are sung all the more meaningful.

I could listen to this song "again and again and again and again and again"

  • beautiful and dark song THE CURE FOREVER

  • So chilling yet relaxing and resolute. Beautiful album, their best no doubt.

  • the rolling drums, the mysterious deep lyrics - just fucking awesome.

  • 20 years ago someone showed me this song and i skiped one hour class to listen the whole faith k7 just paralysed... changd my life

  • RIP Marie Antoinette.

  • 14 peoples don't have a grey cat.

  • they add a perfect glow to heavy darkness

  • This is my lullaby every night.

  • this song is so beautiful...

  • fuck i admire sofia coppola so much for putting this in the ending. so awesome to see music taste coming out in movies it shows real passion and creativity.

  • came here cause i just watched marie antionette

    love this song

  • your name like ice into my heart

  • Great song, the final one of the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" ........in the death cell a single note rings on and on............... great !!!!!

  • IMHO this song is the template for B-sides and Disintegration. The song structure, key change, vocal placement, mix down, stereo positioning, and sonic texture. All done in 1981 and influential on work a whole decade later. Listen to the slower tracks on Kiss Me and especially single flip sides, the songs that are not singles on Head On The Door and Plain Song is All Cats Are Grey pt II. Of one track represents The Cure this is it.

  • This song is Robert's homage to the "Gormenghast" novels. Look it up

  • SERIOUSLY awesome video----LOVE THE PHOTOGRAPHY paired with this----fantastic!!!

  • The best track off Faith. A great classic album, but this track stands head and shoulders above the rest for sheer warm brooding synth-dominated ATMOSPHERE (no pun intended to JD fans!!) Not for nothing does it actually start and end on its own (the other 7 tracks all run into one another with no gaps in the programme). Robert's voice is also very soothing on this one -so different from his usual easily identifiable style. An absolute gem of a song, still play it lots now.

  • Just a perfect song...helped me in many ways all in my life. Clean, sophisticated and somehow makes me feel much younger than I should feel... :-)

    Thank You , Robert!

  • brilliant as ever

  • long live the Cure.

  • Stupenda! I Cure che adoro

  • I love the ambience of this song... it really grabs my heart every time i hear it!

  • WHY THE FUCK HAVENT I LISTEND TO THIS BAND BEFORE?!!...FUCK MAN, ITS AWESOME!

  • @TheAlexander56 That's because the Radio only plays asinine dance & pih poh and the so-called 'music channels' on tv mostly plays shitty reality shows, as well as asisnine dance & pih poh.

Variety is a thing of the past.

  • @TheAlexander56 shame on you for not listening to the cure before,no just kidding..at least you did! and you found true art..

  • @TheAlexander56 Because this is not the sort of thing they play on the radio? It's always been like that, and I nearly missed them myself, but somehow, in the back of my mind, I head this little minimalist sound some time in the mid 1980s, and that was The Cure.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheAlexander56 Awesome! nothings better than discovering musical gems :)

you gotta check out The Cure's album Pornography it's one of their spookiest

  • I wish the drums weren't so loud in this song. I think it would play better if they were turned down a little.

  • @redflare221 No.... it's the foundation of the atmosphere, also in Joy Division.

  • Idoloooooos♥

  • I love The Cure. Always have. For about one hundred years, it seems. ;)

  • Kurwa jak to uzależnia....

  • Pure emotion

  • There is so much beauty in this song that can be felt within the depths of your soul!! So beautiful and so magical!! The Cure is a beautiful band full of real passion!! I love The Cure!! :) ♥♫

  • beautiful ❤

  • Andrew Wyngarden is the responsible for me being here... Nice song

  • too bad the cure will never put out music like this ever again. was great while it lasted.

  • This whole album is perfect for a grey day!

  • @neogtotheninja Right, it's the most perfect album.

  • These beautiful songs were written by a man who was in love with his future wife.

  • @WilliamofMunich Mary Poole

  • This song is so exceptionally dark and hauntingly beautiful!! The feel of this song gets right deep in my soul. You can truly get lost in the feel of this song. Excellent!! There is no one like The Cure, no one!! And that is the way I love it to be!! :D I do so love The Cure!! <3

  • when this was done in the marie antoinette movie....chills at the end. every time.

  • Lol Tolhurst later did a solo ambient version of this song and talks about his days with The Cure at bit DOT ly/gTQtK1 - recommended listen.

  • Some cats are ginger.

  • @Rumpio 'When all candles be out, all cats be gray.'

  • Oh My God....Music has always been my savior; The Cure still surprise me even after all these years. They have saved many a people, especially the young ones trying to find their way. I hope they realize what an amazing accomplishment this is.

  • Marie Antoniette loves the cure...aphex twin....But..........................i waaaaaant candy!! Tump tump tump turutump!! I WANT CANDY!

  • @Harvon94 ♪ Tump tump tump turutump, Tump tump tump turutump ♫

  • Brilliant Goth Minimalism.... and even better... they helped inspire South Park! Robert Smith versus Mecha-Streisand...Classic....and when he resumes to the role to save us from a Gigantic Mechanical Anjem Choudary, we shall owe him our lives!

  • this song is the only reason i watched the marie antoinette credits

  • @chellywuzhere636 Just watched it. Wouldn’t be sitting here listening to it hadn’t it been for that film. ;)

  • @chellywuzhere636 I thought i was the only one who did that D:! ... I was going to change channel but then I realized that it was all cats gray n bam, stayed watching credits. : )

  • this song is a total eargasm.

  • love this song.. "faith" album changed my understanding of music back then.. now making my own "neowawe" i bow 4ever to these 3 imaginary boys.. thx 4 posting jonno 1980 "Solstoej1" light&love

  • I agree with you man,....it changed my life, in the early days...My favorite album + 17 sec.....

  • FAITH IS MY FAVORITE CURE ALBUM!!

  • These images fit this beautiful piece of music perfectly.

  • This reminds me to listen to more of their work...

  • I have been a Cure fan for I guess 25 years now. This is still every bit as magical. It was in the Marie Antoinette film, at the end of the movie.

  • @MowgliX And didn't it add to it? They didn't show anything, and yet this song somehow implied her death in such a dark way you couldn't help but feel moved, regardless of the emotional depth of the film as a whole.

  • @elginxxxman If course it added to the movie, just like the Siouxsie and the Banshees songs at the Palais Garnier, the Paris opera house, which by the way didn't exist at the time of the revolution. The songs were very fitting in a very powerful way, even though they were written some 200 years after those events.

  • Thanks for posting this! My favourite shot is the one at 4:06.

  • Robert says this song came from a dream he once had. I want to have that same Dream !!!! When I go for long walks in the middle of a Moonlit night, I listen to this song, and Lament, The Figurehead, A Strange Day, The Same Deep Water as You, and The Top, over and over and over. Sooooo Mesmerizing !!!!!!

  • they always were the masters of song intros - i love how it plays through the whole form of the song, which is already long, and you think.. here come the vocals.. but then they just go through it again instrumentally.. takes balls!

  • This is what I'm talking about! I do wish The Cure would go back to this dark sound, just for one more albm...I loved this song and the Albm Pornography is my favorite of all time!

  • Such a classic The Cure song, very mellow.

The feeling in this song is perfect, just like Plainsong and Charlotte Sometimes.

  • 9 people think all dogs are grey

  • This song makes me think of death. I think it will be just like this song sounds. Peaceful, but sad.

  • what a monster of a clip!...Al cats are grey is DEFINITLY IN MY TOP 5 BEST CURE SONGS,my god this is going straight to my hart...no more words, just listen..realy listen and feel

  • the clische "goth" kitchy pics aren't helping..

  • @preput

just enjoy what you will and stop caring about what others think.

  • @MYV382N That's absolutely right. Everyone should just be what they are and not what others things they should be. It's all abut growing up to become a real person.

  • This song is just so beautiful. I find that it really gets into your soul. Such a mesmerizing song with such beauty. The Cure my friends!! They can do this to your soul!! I love them !! The Cure forever and always!! :)

  • Simply grey

  • Bejamin Franklyn said "In the dark, all cats are grey". That is pretty funny when you think about it.

  • heavy

  • I think it's one of the best tracks off the album.

  • guess that answers my question, then.

  • Just got home from the City fucked up on BEEP & booze. Its about 7 in the morning, and (U all shut up now, cause I am actually an asshole when Im drunk) But this music is fuckin nice to hear tired stoned, drunk and just chillin.. But I am a Hard Core Death Metal Fan & The Cure is not acceptable in our world. But the old depressive albums like Faith are the Dope! If u mention it to anybody I track and hunt u down ;) Even Antarctis wont be safe when I am mad. But im stoned not mad.So no worries :D

  • whos the quote from at the beginning; brief and powerless etc ?

  • When someone tells me what kind of cat they have I still say "All Cats are grey". No one gets the reference, but that's ok. Thanks for posting!

  • The only band that can make my cry. Hooray for that.

  • *.* love em

  • OHH the melody of it all.....

  • "Faith" is my most favourite album, and this song is especially... Ah, I can't express how much I love it. Feel like it's already a part of my soul... Me too, always wanted this song to play at my funeral.

    Thank you for beautiful pictures.

  • I've always thought that the drums were a little too loud in this song. Would prefer if they were more in the background.

  • @redflare221 Always loved this song. You're right, the drums are loud. Haven't noticed till now. Not sure how it would sound with lower drums.

  • I love this one so much... so soft and grey, like a warm, overcast, Sunday afternoon staring at the sea, thinking nothing in particular, so smooth and perfect and hypnotic and strangely at peace with itself...

  • Timeless sound, world-overviewing tunes, make everything come on its place in a wide universum, good and bad are flowing together in overwhelming unicities

  • I heard that it was Lol Tolhurst who came up with this song.

  • Comment removed

  • I want this to play at my funeral

  • why? u'll be deaf...lol....

  • @brokendisease me too, such a good thought.

  • @brokendisease Me too! :)

  • @brokendisease

at your funeral? always seems like a good song to start the day with. do you even understand the expression "in the night all cats are grey"? jesus enough with people who listen to the cure and want to kill themselves. just do it man- but don't blame the music.

  • @movimientoChalco

I think it means if you turn the lights out before sex, it doesn't mater so much what she looks like.

  • @AlmightyScubba nope thats not what the expression means at all

  • @movimientoChalco

    lol it was a joke.

  • @AlmightyScubba Sorry your humor is lost on certain individuals with inflated egos ;)

  • @brokendisease I hope you don't mind if I quote you.

  • @movimientoChalco Enlighten me. I am quite interested to hear what you think, since another poster was right in some sense re:cats are grey (just look it up; 'all cats are grey in the dark').

Also it might do some good to chillax & read that original post in a different way; talking about funerals doesn't necessarily mean you want to die, or kill yourself. I think it was complimentary. Telling someone to 'just' off themselves is needlessly callous for having a different view of the song. :s

  • @ohthesovietkitsch again- no one can blame an artist for the way the listener interprets the music.

some idiot was on here talking about dying to this song. which is just silly

  • @brokendisease

I agree.......at the end of the holy service..........first "In the flat field".......bye fz

  • A great track on , as far as I'm concerned, one of the greatest albums in history.

  • AMEN - holy songs.

  • An Amazingly Brilliant song! every time I think I know for sure which is my favorite cure song their is always another SONG BY THE CURE that I call my favorite....and another...and another ...and another...and another!!! THE CURE IS ABSOLUTELY ENDLESS!!! GENIUS FOREVER... IRREPLACEABLE FOR ALL ETERNITY!!! ROBERT SMITH IS A MUSICAL GENUS !! ...MY BEAUTIFUL BEETHOVEN GONE WRONG FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS!!!

  • damn I forgot that one ...

    that reminds a lot !!

  • love this!!!

  • Now THAT'S a damn good homespun video. YOU "get it", and what The Cure, and the sound, and the mood, was all about back in the day. I won't spoil the mood by commenting on today's creations by today's bands.

Thanks for creating and sharing this video for a legendary song.

  • 9 persons should buy new ears...

  • @JeffinoLaserz94 totally... this is such a beautiful cure number

  • mrau
