in australioa we can buy tham unlocked from ap[ple user on any net work and therre only cost $700

HK is the best place to buy any electronics (even Apple). All the phones are unlocked (and cheaper than the West.). I bought a sim over there costing HK$25 (£1.80) and the calls were charged at HK$0.03 per minute - almost nothing.

sorry, I got mine off the three network in Fortress and it was unlocked, I inserted my CSL 1010 sim card and it worked. Then I had to put in my 3 Sim card and it also worked, so basically, all iPhones in HK are unlocked, retail and online.

Yes. Basically... the phone comes unlocked if you are sure that it is an Hong Kong iPhone. dont buy those that were shipped from the states, those are hardware unlocked and probably cheaper too...

I just bought one, and the next day came out the 2.2 software upgrade, I did with no problem.

Just make sure the code (or whatever it's called) at the back of the box is: MB489ZP/A or MB496ZP/A or MB500ZP/A

ZP stands for Hong Kong

Yes, that is what I'm doing now.

Got the phone in HK, and now im just using a pay as you go plan. 20 bucks a month for messaging, and 10 more for skype to make calls no other fees at all. Way better than dealing with contracts.

The phone comes carrier unlocked already (factory unlocked) so nothing will prevent you from activating it. Just get it, put in the sim card, and connect the phone to itunes. You will be set.

Not anywhere, you need to go to an special retailer that sells the iPhone 3G contract free which are usually a lot more expensive.

Yes. All the functions, except those that iPhones are known for lacking (MMS, Bluetooth services, etc.)
