  • So, our schools are intentionally dominated by fat bitter women? I thought that was just society in general

  • @SUpersaiyajinjerkbag Not forgetting thin bitter women, and bitter women of all shapes and sizes, who are just as bad.

  • the original reason for university is to expand the mind.

  • Noam Chomsky is speaking to the truth which deep down everyone already knows.

  • Does Chumpsky ignore the fact that it is socialism, collectivism, and liberalism to which public school students are trained to conform? The liberal teachers are spreading HIS message, and then he talks about how stupid everybody is...Chumpsky doesn't know how right he is lol

  • @Success0527 Oh I see what you did there SUCKcess0527, aren't you a clever one...

  • Well at least Chomsky's right about one think, good teachers make you think critically. I've listened to Chomsky's political views, and I am now an ardent capitalist!

  • As the video "freedom from conscience -- bullying" points out, and atmosphere in our schools of conformity will lead to the smart kids becoming outsiders and getting ignored or physically abused. This situation is institutional to the organization or else you would not find the same social cliques and same social problems in every PUBLIC school in the nation.

  • Funny that he actually is the product of schools.

  • @cicatrizx I think you're missing the point. Most of what he has learned has not come from schools but from his own self education.

  • @cicatrizx find the full length video,he talks about that too!

  • for the love of Christ, Noam cut the crap and answer the Kids Q!

  • @FransisR What was the question?

  • Yes intuitive thinking is not part of any school training ....

  • I remember my high school experience was pretty much an attempt by a rich snobby highschool called New Trier to train us to be stupid and conform. However, my university experience has been much better.

  • Just out of curiosity, what exactly is it like to study subjects like sociology or politics in UK, US or AUS?

  • @toseeornot2see It's not so bad if you go into it with an open mind. However, the closed mindedness of your peers make the classes grind to a screeching halt, due to their inability to consider perspectives other than their own, or think critically. It easily reaffirms what Chomsky was mentioning in this video.

In short, it's like pulling your own teeth out with no anesthesia. Hope that helps.

  • @ thefilmarchive (poster)

This video's title should be changed to include "Most schooling...", as the current title is quite deceptive.

  • "A High School teacher who tries to get the children to think may face repression, firing and so on." Wow, that must've felt encouraging to the young chap.

  • langengro

thats the truth tho. A friend of mine was saying that their child was taught abt how a electric circuit still has energy when its switched off - the teacher had been teaching for 40+ yrs and knew abt electronics BUT their new text book was saying that it didnt. Clearly a dumbing down thru lies. The teacher was sacked bcoz he was often disputing wat the kids were being taught in new text books. btw that was not isolated case 2 others teachers who also questiond the books were sack

  • Chomsky is a fucking genius. The public school system should be required to teach his work.

  • @ sbarudzija

I hope your comment was meant sarcastically.

  • sbarudzija

    hear hear! :)

  • One of Chomsky's better ones.

  • Most education is simpily remembering facts and figures. I went to a specialiality arts secondary school and was still taught to be unoriginal, boring and conformatist.

  • If you want to read a troubling yet fascinating expose of the anti-intellectual agenda of the school system, read Charlotte Iserbyt's "Deliberate Dumbing Down of America". Its available online for free at her website.

  • Chomsky's right. You don't learn how to think in school. Schools aren't for getting you to use you mind intelligently, creatively to break new ground conceptually. They're for programming you to accept and repeat the establishment line. Period. That's why the curriculum is mostly mechanical - memory work and calculation. Your grades are primarily dependent on regurgitating data and resolving numerical equations rather than original innovative intellectual activity.

  • @rfalfonse

Preparing the youth to be good worker bee's in the work force. Wake up early, get dressed, show up on time, take notes, receive assignments, meet due dates, kiss up to people with more power than yourself, conform to what ever the group says, repeat this process for X years until dead or crazy

  • @blotto85 Yeah that's about it it blotto. Couldn't have said it better myself : )

  • @rfalfonse Yes, I think there's an air of truth in this. However, what do you think of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program? Is that any different?

  • where can i find the full lecture? thanks

  • Search my videos for Chomsky for the rest of the videos (the full program is posted)

  • thanks — i did actually find it. seems there is a part missing though - the end of part 7 (which is the last part i can find), is not the end of the lecture or beginning of q&a. fyi. thanks a lot for posting!

  • each person must take responsibility for what they believe. Good advice would is not to use any belief as a foundation for decision making, this includes what is taught in school.

  • Schools, College's and Universities are just mind control centres were the people who have the highest accolades/qualifactions are the ones who have been the most willingly brain washed the most completely. Yet they dare call themselves "intellectuals". There is no wisdom for the most part.

We have to developed a society were learning replaces educations. Sadly as long as the Corpoate/Government machine holds the power I can't see this happening soon.

  • @ThomasSheridanArts This is true about high schools. High school educated people have always been those who were supposed to enter the blue collar work force and not question their place in society. College on the other hand was meant to educate the upper class who were privy to info that the rest of society were not. On the other hand, there are lower tier colleges that do continue the type of education people got in high school. Teaching to the test instead of teaching critical thinking.

  • Yes that is what happened me. I was a creative kid and as an adult have been a musician, artist and published author. Yet as a child I came from a poor working class background and the education system guided me towards trade school.

The teachers were morons who could only judge a child according to his/her ability to repeat information and creative thinking was shunned. Mainly because the teachers themselves were not able to do this. There is something very pathological in public schooling.

  • I started thinking this at the age of 14...

Then, much, much later I went to the university and was very happy to discover the immense works of Noam Chomsky :)

  • yeahhhhh... He'd probably get more comments if what he said wasn't such hypocrisy. He makes a valid point about schooling specifically, but in other areas he's such a left-gatekeeper. As someone on the left I'm frustrated by his apparent fear of upsetting his foundation funding. C'est la guerre, I suppose.
