  • the sax's vibrato in a couple did not fit the style of the song

  • Lord... As soon as I heard this piece, I knew it had to be Ennio Morricone's music score! This particular piece reminds me so much of Cinama Paradiso, which was made in the 80's. I LOVE EM's work immensely, he is simply brilliant! Featuring Yo-Yo was a wonderful choice!

  • Yo Yo Ma's section is so beautiful that it's painful. The kind of pain yo wish you could feel always. He makes love to his cello.

  • The one who hit the dislike button is part of Capone's gang.

  • Damn it!! this death theme is Gorgeous, saxophonist is killin!!!

  • Very touching.

  • Abosolutely amazing................Ennio is simply the best; the best of all. That's all I can say listening this masterpiece of music, feeling, emotion, love, passion, drama....all these sensations mixed together by the genius of the immense great maestro.

    I LOVE YOU..........

    THANK YOU.............

    AL FESTA

  • solo un dedo abajo debe ser de algun insensible

  • bpeck77 well said. Share exactly the same feeling when I listen to this.

  • I think the one dislike is from the guy who killed Sean Connery.

  • @mvrsolutions1 the man with the matches=)

  • @Timitso i was hoping he'd be killed then finally >) he was thrown off the roof by

  • @hurricanesofhell Yeah, I was feeling the same when he gunned down Malone. God, I hope this man dies a horrible death.. And he did=)

  • Comment removed

  • @Timitso he was thrown off the roof by eliot ness

  • @hurricanesofhell Actually he committed suicide in prison.

  • @Visonu soooo! your saying the man who killed malone got away!! >:(

  • @hurricanesofhell LOL!! It didn't happen like that at all in the film. There was never any Jim Malone (he was PARTIALLY based on Martin Lahart, an Irish-American), and Frank Nitti wasn't exactly a hitman (he was based on Phil D'Andrea, who was found in court with a gun and then arrested).

Frank Nitti was still alive when Capone went down, but in the end he committed suicide, and I think it was OUT of prison, because he wanted to avoid prison that way.

  • @Visonu so nitti never had slicked back hair and wore all white? O_O and Jim Malone wasn't real?..

  • @hurricanesofhell LMAO!! Of course not. Nitti looked somewhat like Adolf Hitler XDDD and no, Jim Malone was not real. In fact, the only real Untouchable from the film was Ness, and there were TEN Untouchables, and finally, NONE of them were killed, although some were injured.

Furthermore, Ness was not married and did not have children, but he adopted a boy not long after Capone was put away.

  • @Visonu Well put. Hollywood likes to make shit up vs. basing on facts. Then again, De Palma's film would not have been as powerful and engaging if the movie had Ness single, and the fact he loses two of his friends in savage fashions.

  • @hurricanesofhell Almost everything in the film was fictional, to be serious. Even the ending (one of the lamest ever, I say) was so unreal. The lawyer withdraws the plea of "not guilty" and enters a plea of "guilty" WITHOUT Capone's consent, and WOOSH!, off to jail with Capone. In real life, the lawyer would have been in serious trouble.

In real life, the trial went all the way to verdict and the jury found Capone guilty (and the JUDGE had the juries switched himself, not by blackmail).

  • @Visonu ohh.. O_o it sort of felt a little strange that the judges name would be in the ledger real or fictional. im surprised to hear he wasn't blackmailed and he had the juries switched himself. Lol and i seen pictures of nitti and it appears he never really wore all white and he sort of had a mustache..O_o hm.

  • @hurricanesofhell Hollywood seldom remains faithful to the true stories some of their films are based on. It's not about entertainment. It's about money, nothing more.

The worst example was the Disney Hercules movie. I personally call it either "Hercules in New York" or "Superman Goes Greek".

  • @Visonu so the reason why the movie is even based on true stories is to gain interest and make money??!! O_O i watched this movie and enjoyed it though!! >_>..........

  • @hurricanesofhell Exactly. These are businessmen, and their sole purpose is to make money, not to make people happy. Why do you think they're so picky about their movies being downloaded even when they're rolling in billions? Why do you think so many actors have been cheated out of their proper salary or their own rights?

One answer with one word: money.

  • @Visonu O_o But i watch behind the scenes of the movies.. and it seems to me that the Directors and Producers enjoy coming out with the stories and script like they admire the person they are doing the movie on.. (Howard Hughes) The aviator. the commentary on the movie sounds like it was well thought out like it was coming from the heart :) like the person (forgot their name) was more on the focus of howard hughes life more then money making..

  • ...what it all comes down to...it makes you descend to dephts or rise to hights, whatever you wanna call it, where true and deep felt love makes you feel all energy around you and become one with it. It really 'touches my soul'

    Thank you...

  • @stellaatje I'm with you there ...... an incredible piece of music. It almost makes me ache, both in sadness and deepest feelings of love. Quite beautiful. x

  • @heehawluck1 Without passion I would die, seriously. I'd feel liveless, I get sour like the rain gets sour because of disappearing rainforests (never mess with nature!), I get numn, lose all my splendered colors...I get unrecognizable! x

  • I've been aknowledging the truth behind movies, and its aesthetics.

My point of view says that 50% of the quality of the movie is the soundtrack.

A movie with a good quality OST is likely to be on the the prefered shelf.

Of course this movie has all elements, either plot, music or acting.

    Ennio never lets up down.

  • No words and no lyrics are needed in this piece. The parting of someone very dear is so very vivid in this melancholic melody. Hearts are often broken by kind words left unspoken...

  • Alto ? Perhaps , but great none the less.

  • A falawless B flat tenor.

  • "What are you prepared to do!?"

  • wow

  • Yoyo Ma's version is awesome too, he gives the theme a shogun feel

  • @MrJKA2000 A shogun feel? That may be so, but are you aware that Yo Yo Ma is of Chinese descent, not Japanese?

  • @DarthMakaveliSithMC

    Big deal.

  • @JKAFinal Wow, thank you for taking the time to respond. Your insight, intellect and ever-deep response is welcomed greatly. Big deal indeed. Thank you, have a nice day. :D

  • Chef-d'oeuvre

  • Unbelievable!!! The strings & sax!!! Ennio is a genius

  • @bpeck77 i agree with you, this song kinda makes me upset about tragedies in life aswell ;(, life treats us badly.

  • check out Shawn Lane's cover, it is outstanding

  • This theme makes me cry all the time, i compare this to morrow's departure on the Gattaca score by Micheal Nyman.

  • Is this the same theme in the movie "Bugsy" played by Warren Betty ?

  • Hello Thammasid

    NO

But because this Grande Maestro composes SO MUCH music (and not only to accompany films)... similarities do inevitably arise.

In the space of time beween 'The Untouchables' and 'Bugsy" Morricone scored some 25 films.

His range is unmatched by any other composer

  • Loss. That is what I perceived in my spirit too.And grief.I am not sure,I have heard anything more poignant.

I prefer Ennio's-it is more delicate, and it has more depth.

  • I'm not sure what you mean by, you "prefer Ennio's"

All the music (and arrangements) are his, just played on different solo instruments

  • Prefer the original, but nice to hear a different take.

  • Yeah ~! "Death Theme" was always an unfortunate title for this "pezzo" {piece} by the Great Master.

I think it should be called "LOSS"

Hear later how Morricone beautifully transcribes his piece for cello (not an instrument Ennio writes a lot for)... but this is the cello of Yo-Yo Ma!

A great album ~ I do recommend the DualDisc which also has the student films, as well as the composer's son Giovanni's work-in-progress documentary

  • Thanks for correcting the translation. "Loss" definitely sums it up better, since that's exactly the wrenching emotion you feel when this melody appears. I personally can't listen to it without crying most of the time, precisely because it makes me think about people I've lost in my life. "Loss..." if you've felt it, this melody personifies it.
