  • Simply Marvelous...learned a lot from this...I was so excited to find out that she went to my alma mater Central State!!! thanks for posting!

  • So much love and ethusiasm coming from her. This is simply wonderful!

  • Momma Price, is a GOD here on earth!

  • Of course she is not crazy and only a crazy would think she was crazy. However, her ideas about race and "complaining" are b at best troubling.

  • A lady... through and through. Such class. Class class class. As a singer and as a person... 81... she looks maybe 50 here. And her interpretation of that role (Aida) is so profound and, i believe, singular. Untouchable. One of the only roles that I believe Callas was beat. Perfection. Human and real.

  • @tenortobe Absolutely. I was in broadcasting in New Zealand during the mid to late 1960s. At that time, believe me, there was Leontyne Price and no one else. Callas was mentioned mainly as a celebrity, more noted for her non opera stuff. Victoria de Los Angeles and John Sutherland were also well known, but never in the same league as Leontyne at that time. Other musicians at the time were Gyorgy Cziffra, Paul Badura-Skoda and Henryk Szeryng. You don't hear of them now. Leontyne is still famous.

  • @tenortobe Black don't crack!

  • Thanks so much for this. I'm a young man hoping to be an artist of great caliber one day. It was nice to hear from one of the masters.

  • Anyone who is interested in being a singer should listen to this! Brava Leontyne!

  • Awesome and phenomenal epitome of where singers can go with their vocal talent....and to be still filled with grace as an 81-year-old, that is totally INCREDIBLE! I see why Mom introduced us to her - verbally... Queen Leotine is a phenomenal international rare treasure for the world to appreciate.

  • so many words of wisdome to live by....

  • Wow, she is still so gorgeous. What a lovely, gifted and articulate woman. She IS a national treasure. One of the greatest Verdi sopranos of all time.

It's very interesting to hear her discuss Aida and her "big buddy Giuseppe Verdi". She is just luscious.

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • NO ONE can touch her. She has changed so many lives and inspired so many people. I never forget hearing her as a senior in high school and then again in college. We were fortunate enough to meet her as young singers. Her comment: Come on in honey, the water's fine! I still think of how that all changed my perspective on singing and what's possible. AMAZING LEONTINE!

  • BRAVA!!!

  • Miss Price does not sound crazy, are you kidding. She was Cum Laude. Also how many 81 year olds could speak in such a coherent way off the cuff about her long and glorious career. Too many memories to recount, I am sure.

What a pleasure to have this and what pearls of wisdom she is laying on young people.

  • Excellent comment....

  • she is a national treasure!

  • SHe;s amazing!

  • "Opera is magnificent and glittering." Amen Miss Price. You are the total Di-VUH. Crazy as she sounds, she accepted her gift and gave it back to us on a gold platter. No false modesty for her and I say, Brava.

  • very important lesson: if you don't give it, you don't get it.

    and...

    if YOU stingy, THEY stingy.

    LOL i looooooooooooove it

  • That's one healthy ego. Brava!

  • true!

  • This was an amazing interview with one of the world greatest voices. She is such a positive person and motivational speaker, this interview should be seen by anyone who wants to be an achiever. It's interesting that many great artist of her generation refused to allow the negativity of the era stop them from achieving their goals, because she believed that in America, no matter what the set backs, this nation will always triumph over evil and progress. Price is a down to earch diva of Divas.

  • She is an Obama mama...lol :)

  • What was the, "Concert of Rememberance, 2001" What happened that she wanted to move on from?

  • I surmise that the memory of the attacks of the US World Trade Center September 11, 2001 was too emotional for her to want to recall...

  • thanks so much for putting these interwiews on youtube words cannot describe my admiration for Ms Price what joy her singing has bought to this world.

  • I was a child. I saw that Tosca. I remember it. I remember the meaningful stage direction moving it into a different era. It worked. nobody screamed "genius" but it was groundbreaking... in EVERY way!!!!!

  • I love the woman. This really shook me up emotionally. She is and always has been for me #1 and pure class! Brava!

  • I've always said that every woman owes it to herself to simply observe this woman. Now more than ever, especially in a nation of "whiners", Ms. Price shines as an unapologetically regal spirit. Bizarre as it may seem, I've always sensed an absolute humility in her manner; a true reverence to all that is bigger than us. Shine on forever Ms. Price - SHINE!

  • Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine, Leontyne is a foretaste of that glory divine. I wept through the entire 4 pieces. Guess I have to look at them again.

  • She should work on her self esteem! Oh..gosh,,,I'm just kidding!

    I love her to pieces!

  • OMG...Me too...I Love Queen Leontyne!!!

  • I LOVE HER!!!

  • This is FASCINATING!!! OMG!, What a lecture! Where on earth do you find these interviews...I remember one or two, one in particular with Itzak Perlman before Performing with the Boston Symphony, but this is great! I get goosebumps...especially when she talks about Aida...her true feelings. One has to hear her sing Aida in '67 to truly get it!

  • Given the overwhelming response to this wonderful short video, I direct everyone to the National Endowment for the Arts site. You will find three videos related to Miss Price, including a 41 minute interview. I cannot post the URL here, but you can google it with NEA + Opera Honors.

  • Thanks to you MusicaParola we can enjoy these videos with Miss Price

  • Wow. Thank you so much. I lived in San Francisco in the 70's an was lucky enough to see and hear her in Forza, Torovatore and Dialogue of the Carmelites. I met her backstage once.A huge voice, a huge personality and an an amazingly warm person.

  • You'are a lucky man! Thanks for your comment
