whoever wrote the script for this video is WAY off. these cars were not lavishly appointed as the speaker boasts. they were base road runners meaning vinyl seatcovers, gauge clusters optional, a/c not available, your basic taxi-cab interior. how do i know this? i've owned an EV2 superbird since 1974.
@mrgears It would be a crime not to drive it. I can't stand the sight of these birds being unloaded from a trailer with 0 miles on it. Doesn't matter if it's a Bugatti Veyron or a Superbird-it was made to be driven and pushed to the limit.
@herbienbrian Superbirds are more common, so a reasonable sale price is in the hundred thousands. Big auctions are one of the few places that they go for millions.
Back in the day, a buddy of mine and his friend (Superbird Owner), were cruising around and a Friday night. He had a hemi 4speed bird, I remember him telling me they pulled into a Jack In The Box parking lot way too fast and tore the the bird beak right off the car! Man if the only new what that thing was worth today.........
@richardaiken1 hmm.. well you may be right, but im just wondering why no racing cars these days have spoilers as tall. They are always low on the back of the car. Because what makes the downforce is the moving air around the spoiler, so i don't really see the point. But it might be something about the shape around the car that sends all the air over the top and right into the spoiler and that way increasing downforce. But i am just guessing :)
my guess is just the overall shape and size of the car. Look how much bigger this is when compared to race cars today. Also, if you are talking about NASCAR, I'm pretty sure that the cars have stability control and such, which was not around, at least not to the average person, back in 1970.
A pristine Superbird - with matching numbers - today (2010) will run about $150,000! And Yellow IS THE COLOR!!!!!!! You can pick the rubber chunks of its tires - out chor mouth!!!!! Slam on the gas - you can actually see the gas needle MOVE - this was made when gas was 25 cents a gallon - and they'd give you a page of stamps - to get some crappy glasses that you didn't need - and if it was Thursday - check the air in your tires!!!!
the only thing i don't like about this car is the faggy road runner decal. I saw a purple superbird at the dream cruise in detroit, minus the road runner and it looked awsome... even in purple. this is my all time favorite muscle car, but that road runner just doesn't sit easy with me... it sucks :-/ just my opinion
@Cigamadze this was cutting edge in the 70's asswipe not some usless wing that a kid used super glue to stick on. that car Revolutionized the racing industry with its aerdynamics. its not a ricer if its functional. Jeez i hate stupid people with no respect for class, heritage, and functionality
@mnnole exactly they was afraid that his would transform the racing of stcok cars into something they didnt want it to. thats what started the entire regulations era of stock car racing and the reason why the cars are so governed today. im glad someone else knows a thing or two about american muscle glory days.
Had a chance to buy a 440 six pack 4 speed convertible in white about 12 years ago all original for $45.000 its quadrupled in price now, Well wish in one hand **** in the other.
lasted for 1 year? 1 of 4 with Petty blu? I know someone with a Petty Blue & the car is a 1970 Superbird, so ya even online or in real-life it's nice car
they are great musclecars but man are they UGLY ...i'll take a cuda or charger all day over a superbird or daytona ....even though the bird or daytona are worth 10 times as much
Somebody should make a powerwheels superbird. XD

Why is the rear spoiler so high??! is it better for the aerodynamics or is it just rice??!
dude2106 1 year ago
@dude2106 there were no ass wipe ricers back when this beauty came out!
Motorfordtoyota 1 year ago
@Motorfordtoyota eeeehm.. that really dosn't answer my qestion. Because to me it looks ricey. I would like to know if it has a function or not.
dude2106 1 year ago
@dude2106
It's rear wheel drive, and the spoiler is in the back, so it works.. Most ricers are front wheel drive, so spoilers make no sense.
richardaiken1 1 year ago
@richardaiken1 yeah i know it works, but why is it so tall?
dude2106 1 year ago
@dude2106
I'm not an expert on spoilers, but I think the bigger it is, the more control you have. Control was something you needed with this beast.

dude2106 1 year ago
@dude2106 There is a rumor that the spoiler was mounted high like that so the trunk could be opened. Whether it is true or not, it looks awesome.

@MrCpe9775 First ever car to have fully functional aerodynamics. So dominate that NASCAR had to place special rules against them for there dominance.

MrCpe9775 8 months ago
This car needed that wing for aerodynamics to win races because it was that fast. Your Honda doesn't.
The starter on this car is the size of a Honda's engine. You could buy 50 Rice rockets for what one of these true race cars are worth.

amazing car, but i read that the 426 hp version reaches (just)160 mph, i expected more from a legend.
magnumglory 3 years ago
Depends on the final drive ratio. Buddy Baker attained a lap speed 200.447 mph around Talladega on March 24, 1970 with a standard superbird.
Jim Fredricks regularly ran 220mph at Bonneville.
The lower ratio final drive gave a better zero-to-sixty (4.8 seconds) but as you say a lower top speed.
