  • The quote is From PSP

    But for their comrades.....

  • @401robert some thing spoken truly

  • Metal Gear Solid the only game series that has SOUL.

  • Now THIS!!! is what i call "a good homage"

  • A marvelous beautiful song

  • I MISS THE BOSS. THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL AS HER BE...:'x

  • I was psych when they put this song in Brawl

  • some of these comments seem like a eulogy

  • It would be cool if theyd make a book series about MGS. Yeh, i know it seems lame and stupid but for the real fans it would be awesome if it would be in chronological order and stuff.

  • @Amorr666 there are some books by raymond benson m8, mgs1 and 2 :)

  • @Amorr666 I think there is a novelization of MGS1. But I saw it on ebay years ago.

  • We need a game about Solidus in Liberia.

  • this song reminds me of all the mgs games....damn what a good memory

  • I hate people who said

    "Thump up for this video."

Thump up if you'd like to

    "thump to this video".

  • I know that it's really really too late to say this, but merry christmas to you too alvaroduck lol

  • There's a reason why MGS rivals The Legend of Zelda series(my fav game series) in my heart, beautiful game series. *salutes*. @Hibofobi tch, the first two Metal Gears aren't even needed to be played, just know the plot from them which isn't that hard, the MGS are the only ones needed to be played and/or experienced.

  • Out all the Big Boss songs, this has to be my most favorite one

  • colling tu de naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiighhhhhhhhhhhhhttttt

  • When exactly does this play in thg game?

  • @FlashJordan94 it's the ending theme

  • "To be or not to be fighting here..." Is that a Hamlet reference?

  • Love theme for XJ-0 and Jessie Winkler.

  • Isn't this song in super smash brothers brawl? Ya know on snakes stage?

  • @metroid308 Yes, it is in brawl.

  • This song needs to be longer...

I'm going to end up breaking the replay button :I

  • I never played MGS:Portable Ops, was Big Boss who you played as?

  • @DjKreed Yes, but you can also play as other characters such as Zero, Siginit, Para-Medic, EVA, Ocelot, Raikov, Sokolov, Gene, Null, Cunningham, Elisa/Ursula, Python and GA-KO.

In PO+ You can add these on the game and play as Old Snake, Raiden, Roy Campbell and the enemy solders from MGS 1,2 and 3.

  • 5 people did not like the night

  • I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with a tuning fork does a raw blink in hara-kiri rock. I need scissors, 61

  • Metal Gear Solid was a one-of-a-kind series. Nothing like COD or Splinter Cell, it was not about the "coolness" or "killing sprees" or anything like that. It was about the characters and the way they had shaped the world and the effect they had on war and what that war had done to the world. It was a series that had deeper gameplay that most action games and a far deeper and complex story than anything that has ever come before it. Nothing will ever amount to the beauty of Metal Gear Solid.

  • @Satansapocalypse

    Pure truth here.

And why the hell is this very good comment having so few thumbs up?!

  • @Satansapocalypse Splinter cell was not bad it was a cool series not better then MGS but its nothing like COD.

  • @Satansapocalypse Finally, A True Believer.

  • @Satansapocalypse It wasn't about coolness or killing sprees, that was just a little extra feature in their eyes. So, just a little extra feature beats COD's whole combat design.

  • @Satansapocalypse comments like these make me want to cry, or maybe that's just crying wolf...

  • this reminds me of porn music, lol

  • @mamaweegee1 0_0?

  • Words can't describe what I feel listening to that!

  • big boss is the most amazing character in video game history...there is no second opinion about that...i just wont accept it

  • @MrMalf I think I prefer Solid Snake as I see more of myself in him

  • I cried When this song came on :( </3 BY FAR SNAKE WAS MY HERO AND I CANT BELIEVE METAL GEAR SOLID ENDED :(

  • lol

  • everyone who listened to this felt like saluting

  • very good

  • beauty

  • this is one of those songs when i hear it i gotta look it up xD so calming and beautiful xD

  • Great Song, love it. Prepare for Peace Walker, folks. ;>

  • it gives me luck when playing surv

  • i always use this song when i play metal gear solid 4

  • When i hear this song i always think of Big Boss when he begins his mission to build Outer Heaven, i will never forget these games even when i am an old man like snake. :D

  • @valoandlovesaidno666 and by old you mean 40 years old XD

  • Beautiful

  • Kojama did change his own story (and Big Boss' background).

However, he CREATED Big Boss, so he has license to do that. And I love what he did with the character, personally.

And.... hiphop... seriously NES emulators are tiny. The oldest ones can fit on an 1.44 MB diskette (showing my age here). So really, it's up to you whether you want to try the original game or not.

    Peace ^^

  • hold on a minute, youll be needing an MSX2 emulator, thats what the first two metal gears were on..

the NES version of Metal Gear was terrible compared, and the NES sequel 'Snakes Revenge' was made without Kojima and as such is not canon. =]

  • i luv this song 5 stars ^_^

  • MGS Series & Kojima = Win win win !!!

  • MGS music is so awesome beautiful "tear"

  • Okay. Looks like this is getting out of hand. We all have our own opinions about Big Boss and his motifs, and we can argue about them forever if we like. I see him as the greatest hero of all time, while some see him as a tyrant and a maniac. "Opposing interpretations" one could say.

So let's not argue about this matter any more. Let's just enjoy Metal Gear Solid.

  • When I played the first Metal Gear games (1&2 solid 1 & 2) I though he was a Tyrant... and then I played MGS3, portable Ops and MGS4 and I totally changed my mind! I'm expecting a lot of the new MGS comming up with Big Boss :)

  • I agree, it's all about perception. I think Big Boss is just epic, and the new PSP game is with Big Boss :D

  • Yes..in MG Saga there aren't true bad guys or true good guys...like in reality...what change are motivations

  • People, EVA explains at MGS4 that both Big Boss AND Zero misinterpretated The Boss' will. Zero sought world domination through the Patriots, so that he could unify everyone under the american power, therefore ending the conflits that, according to The Boss, tore apart families and friendships. Big Boss wanted neverending war because, in his mind, that was the only way to create a world where soldiers would always have a place.

  • Awesome song

  • He is a hero. He was always fighting for what he believed was right. He wanted to break free from the Patriots grasp and help people, including other soldiers to so. He didn't want them to be pawns in some struggle, that had nothing to do with them. "His goal was to create an army of free citizens, that answer to no government" Ocelot said that, when explaining his motives to Solid Snake. As for Snake, he was being used by Zero and the Patriots, to kill Big Boss, so he had to fight him.

  • ok then if a physcotitc person wants to kill everyone he meets and thinks its the right thing to do and fights for his right to do so? yes fighting the patriots was a good thing trying to kill innocent civlians is wrong! i recomend you play the oringal Metal Gears and see Big Boss in his element for your self and then rejudge your diagnoises as 'hero'

  • I already have played them. He never wanted to kill innocent civilians. Eva explained that when major Zero elevated Big Boss into the status of an idol, he also began spreading rumors about him, and so "the truth behind Big Boss became riddled with exaggeration, misrepresentation and outright lies." In my opinion, Zero continued to spread this incorrect information about him, and that's why we see him as a tyrannical despot in the first two Metal Gears.

  • what the fuck man?1?!?! you played the games you see what happended threw solid snakes perspective does that mean the snake was hyptoised by Zero??? he wanted a never ending war by nukeing innocent civlians sending the world into chaos! and also to destroy the patriots while he was at it!

  • Yeah... I don't recall him actually saying he wanted to "nuke innocent civilians". I know he did mention war orphans as part of his plan, but nuking innocents?

Besides, Snake was pretty much a psychopath during the first games (Liquid even told him.), and he doesn't even consider himself a hero (in fact, he has a pessimistic view of himself). In reality, there are no "heroes" in the Metal Gear games.

Now that I think about it, that statement in regards to Big Boss sounds more like the AIs.

  • damn i love this song..

  • I was wondering when was the first MGS game this song showed up in?

  • Can't you tell!? Look at the title: 'MGS: Portable Ops Soundtrack'.

  • Comment removed

  • Big Boss; the greatest Hero of all time!

  • NO HES NOT FFS!

he tried to unleash nuclear war upon the world, wanted a never ending war, raised child soilders, tried to kill the REAL hero of all time (Solid Snake) who also happend to be his son! you can go on saying that he trying to fight the patriots! yes well that doesnt excuse HOW he did it evil ways! BIG BOSS IS NO HERO he gave up that right when betrayed FOX-HOUND and set up outer-heaven!

  • Sorry pal. He is a hero.

  • Yeah, the funny thing is, I don't recall Big Boss even saying that he was trying to start a nuclear war in the first two (canonical) games. In fact, MGS4:GotP even had EVA saying that he intended to use Metal Gear as a deterrant from the Patriots from interfering with his dream (which basically means that it's meant to be a defense weapon.). Anyways, didn't The Boss also try to kill Big Boss in the ending of MGS3? Also, I believe it was implied a few times in MGS that Solid Snake was psychotic.

  • huh i well enjoyed your argument... even if its wrong or clashes with my argument as long as someone can give a well infomed and factual argument over something i respect them alot... the fact of Big Boss is that he was evil but Kojima turned his chacter around in MGS3 by making him a hero and then in MGS4 said "oh well he only did that to fight for freedom and stuff" and everyone goes "eh that makes sense YAAAAY BIG BOSS!!!"

  • personallly when someone brings up Big Boss i always think of the oringal version but i think to decide weather he is in fact evil or not is up to every person to conclude for them selves... i will always keep my impression of a tyrant in mind for Big Boss

  • I see Big Boss as a patriot without a nation.

He fought for a proper cause unlike that of any government that just uses soldiers then casts them aside when they have no use for them. Big Boss was a true soldier.

  • Correct!

  • heh... good point.. everyone has there own opnion on these subjects... but i always remaing the first memory i had of Big Boss as it is scared into my mind after playing that game so young lol

was annoying do all this crap... reciveing false infomation over the 'reciver' that sends me into big pitfalls then getting to the end of the game and having this bald guy whos my boss run super fast beat the crap outta me and try to kill me XD

  • @eddielegenduk Really? Big Boss might have done the right thing every now and then, but ultimately, he along with Zero was responsible for screwing the world over, and he'd spent fourty years as nothing but a heartless war-monger who'd adopt orphaned children and raise them to be killers like him. The whole point of his confession to Snake at the end of MGS4 was about his final realisation.

  • @eddielegenduk Well, until they started messing with his backstory in Portable Ops and Peace Walker, that is. It's a shame that those two are canon, because I loved the simplicity of having MGS3 as a story of tradegy outlining the fall of a hero, as opposed to a Prison Break-esque conspiracy mess which retcons the story to the point where Big Boss was actually the good guy all along or something stupid like that... That's what happens when Kojima isn't involved. (He joined the PW team later on).

  • @SkullXII

I woudn't say Big Boss was a good guy all along. He and Zero had different interpretations of the type of World The Boss wanted. Which lead them to opposing sides.

I like that Portable Ops and Peace Walker are canon. They are filling in the story of Big Boss making him more than a 1 dimensional character that he was in the original 2 games.

  • @SkullXII Peace Walker's great, it's true it never outright says Big Boss is bad, but he starts acting a lot more iffy in this one. Considering it's the start of Outer Heaven, it makes sense he'd start to act like Big Boss, and less like Naked Snake. Also, I don't see how MGS3, MPO and PW could all be the story of a tragedy outlining the fall of a hero. They basically just made it longer and more detailed, instead of "Naked Snake = good guy AND THEN Bog Boss = bad guy"

  • @eddielegenduk An Old Dog of War.

  • i see your point but i disagree with you there bigboss wasnt bad it even explains in mgs4 eva even explains it bigboss just left to create a place for soldiers who werent going to be cast away like trash hence he created outer heaven but major "tom" didnt like what he was trying to do which is why solid was sent as pawn to go stop bigboss from destroying the patriots system that "tom" created it all began because the boss was set up if that never happened bigboss never would have began outer

  • -_- Big Boss him self sent Snake into Outer Heaven to try and confuse the west and spread false information however he was better than Boss had expected so he failed =P NOT the patriots.... Kojima changed his own story to give into the demmand of noobs who never played the first METAL GEAR games and didnt understand the truth of Big Boss

  • i never said the patriots sent snake...... i said bigboss's goal was to free soldiers from the patriot system that tom created and did he really send snake to outer heaven> i cant really remember because metal gear 1 and 2 were sooo long ago tbh i never played em fully but i did read about them

  • Yes, Big Boss was Snake's commander and was waiting for him within Out Heaven.

    drewcaine

  • well baconboy im fucking sorry i didnt play the original first 2 metal gears because i wasnt FUCKING BORN

  • hmmm lemme think? errr the consoles for the two metal gears werent even around anymore by the time i first played mgs1 ........ so how can i play them both

  • MGS:3 Subsistence had both of them!

  • i didnt have subsistence i had the original i never ever bought the extra versions of any metal gear because i didnt feel there was any need

  • Emulators?

  • nah i hate the amount of space emulators take up on my pc i try to keep the data storage as small as possible to avoid my pc from becoming slower

  • download them on emulator

  • Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake? Yea, I really want to play those too but I can't. =( Kojima should remake them for ps3 or ps2

  • so you like MGS?

  • MSX2 emulator.. MG-2 solid snake is unmissable

  • @krustyismyname7

They were remade in MGS3: Subsistence

  • And the first 2 MG games aren't on MGS3: Subsistence either? There ya go, no excuse now :)

  • @hiphopsavedmylyfe You know you still can play them... I mean you don't have to be born in the start of the big bang... Right? Right! I'm Right!

    (But Left handed)

  • @hiphopsavedmylyfe Well then it sucks to be you lol

  • @shelta11

Well I'm happy to be sucker who want to belong with BIG BOSS. LOL

    XD

  • @hiphopsavedmylyfe Why don't you use an emulator? =}?

  • @hiphopsavedmylyfe

If you buy MGS3: Subsistance both 'original' metal gear games are packaged on it.

  • Amen!

  • this song is stuck in my head i played to much mgo and mgs4 with this song -_-

    calling to the night!

  • this epic on mgo :'(

  • I always play this song on the iPod in the Middle East in MGS4, with the bullets whizzing past by and the explosions going off right next to Snake.

  • As do I...

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for posting this. such a beautiful song. :-)

  • Thank you for posting this; it made me decide to buy the CD for this one song.

I wish they had soundtracks like this for Ye Olde games, it'd make my job a whole lot easier.

  • when this song appear in mgspo?? cause when i start the disk it didnt

  • Beat the game.

  • When Elissa Dies as well.

  • Yes, that's right. I was thinking more about the ENTIRE song when dante1234ever asked when it plays in MGS: PO. But as far as when this song starts playing in the game for the first time, it's during the scene where a mortally wounded Elisa predicts Big Boss'/Naked Snake's future.

  • who is singing this song?

  • Natasha Farrow

  • Heh, this song describes Big Boss all too well and what he fights for. Not for the nation, but for the ideals.

  • Great song when in a battle

  • i want this played at my funeral.

  • its funny that you say that because, my sister sang this at my older brothers funeral which was last week

  • That's too bad, sorry for your loss

  • she must be pretty brave to do that.

not only to get up and sing infront of people but the things that must of been running through her head "did i choose the right song", "am i singing well", "will the people be angry at me"

the song is apropriat for such an occasion. but at an event that has people very emotional she must of been nervous about how people would react

  • yeah she was. But it really matched because my older bro was a cop

  • Sorry for your loss, but that sounds awesome. Incredible really. Did you get a recording of her, or can you get a video/recording of her singing it. It really is a great song to sing.

  • i love this theme

  • wow, i can get lost in this song!

  • Love this osng from iPod in MGS4 :))))

  • It's sad, in a way.

    Two brothers fighting over Dad.

  • Does anyone know how you get this song in SSBB?

  • My fav and the best MGS song

  • WHo is singing?

  • Natasha Farrow

  • Just EPIC!!!

    nuff said.

  • This is likely supposed to be like Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On song. Another Titanic reference.

  • this song is awesome dude!

i play it all time time on my mgs4 ipod.

    DREBIN RULES!

  • Lol thats exactly what I do =D Yay! *Hi 5*

  • YEAH! Go Drebins Monkey, Whatever its name is! Maybe its just called monkey! =)

    Virtual high five dude!

  • It's name is little gray.

  • To be honest, Solid Snake is my favourite character out of all of them, even if he is a clone of Big Boss, Solid Snake is epic :)

  • READ THE METAL GEAR SOLID DATABASE.

You guys are making the most stupid comments.

Ocelot was never possesd, never had a mechanical arm or was ever anything but himself.

He used psychotherapy and nanomachines to appears like Liquid.

He did not take on his personality as that is impossible.

  • Dude re- the fuck lax, lol the games super fuckin confusing so obviously alot of people are going to be confused, do you not realize how much extra stuff is in the games? not only that but alot of them just havent played the previous metal gear solids, its one of the ways the game was ment to be, so relax man

  • Yes, Ocelot took on Liquid's perosnality completely. And yes, that is impossible with today's technology. It is also impossible for a single man to infiltrate and take down heavily armed fortresses, single handedly defeat walking death mobiles, run on water, get shot in the head and have your wound heal in seconds, etc.

  • **SPOILERS**

If Ocelot was using Liquid's personality, then why did he destroy Big Boss's body if he worshiped him so much and betrayed the Patriots he helped create?

  • liquid actualy took control over oceleot becuz ocelots hand yea i know thats a pretty blunt answer esp for mgs but play mgs4 and you will see

  • exactly

  • no he didn't take control. If you payed attention at the end of MGS4 you'd have heard that ocelots nanomachines made him THINK he's liquid. An arm is an arm. It can't take over a body. Only nanomachines.

and if you paid more attention you'd have seen that in the last fight of snake vs ocelot, the nanomachines stopped working and Ocelot slowly remember everything (at the MGS3 part fight, his healthbar says ocelot and not liquid or anything and at the MGS4 fight it says ocelot again)

    End.

  • this was aimed at

    ATFGOONSQUAD08

  • well, it was more of Ocelot did that on purpose to fool the Patriots and be undercover, though he was concious the whole time and he knew everything he was doing, otherwise, he would've stopped Snake just like he said he could've at the end

Ocelot was never Liquid in anyway, he only adopted his personality, he purposefully acted like he was losing control in MGS2 to fool the Pariots and convince everyone else he was indeed Liquid

  • Well, if his "possessed behaviour" in MGS2:SoL was indeed an act, he certainly had advanced acting to replicate a British accent (never mind Liquid's exact voice) and yet keep his russian accent.

Honestly, in MGS2, at least, he actually was possessed by Liquid Snake (or rather, the arm that used to belong to Liquid).

  • yeah, I know what you mean, but that was retconned; however if they stuck with it, it could simply be explained as nanomachines he used to alter his voice and/or just being that good considering his history as an excellent spy

  • WHAT SHE SAID
