I'll bet Zappa gets really tired of being compared to his father but since he looks and plays so much like him he may as well go all the way with the long hair and the moustache.
Hey dude, I'd hardly call that pedantic. But I would point out, even though the short riff before 4:20 sounds a little like part of the main riff to The Ocean, from 4:20 the riff is a carbon copy of Black Dog, from Led Zepplin IV.
@scottytrotter Oh yeah. Well pointed out. I started early (at 4.10) but now that I've listened all the way through I've also spotted that immediately after Black Dog he briefly goes into Four Sticks from the same album.
Well spotted on the Four Sticks. Do you think it's odd that on a tribute album to his dad, on a track based on improvised soloing, he plays a Zepplin melody medley?
I have pretty much ended seeing any other acts other than the Steve Morse band and ZPZ/Dweezil. Both acts are pretty much all you need to enjoy great concert experiences.
I've got to say....being a Frank Zappa fan since the early 70's, and one who has seen FZ perform many times, I went to hear Dweezil's band with much skepticism. You can definitely hear his father's spirit behind the music, and each member of the band is an awesome musician in their own right. I'm certain Frank would have been very proud of his son. I just saw ZPZ last night at Meadowbrook in Detroit, and I was blown away. Dweezil has interpreted his dad's music in his own way, & he rocks.
i saw them live and loved them. they didnt play this but the bass fuzz is soooo off here. it should gritty as hell. dweezil can figure a way to make it sound good live, the idea is that the bass pretty much kills u and eats ur corpse so yeaah.
I was at the show in Moncton and as Dweezil was gracious enough to hang around up front where were were, that gave me the opportunity to tell him just that.
I've see FZ a few times in the 70s & 80s and I'm here to tell ya, the music and spirit of Frank Zappa is alive and well in the hands of his son.
Going to see ZPZ tonight, can't wait, say Frank several times in the 70's. Love what Dweezil is doing to honor his dad

From 4:20 to 4:25 Z Junior plays black dog by Led Zepplin. Really strange track to do that in.

@MrBlaineyboots Er... actually, it's The Ocean, from Houses of the Holy. Sorry to be a pedant.

I loved the show. One of my favorite FZ albums and it was very well done!

The bass lacks the fire & imagination. Jack Bruce is always going somewhere... this goes nowhere. Just notes.
