One point that proved Leone's greatness is that he had Ennio Morricone compose all the music *prior* to scripting (IMO) one of the greatest movies of all time, "Once Upon A Time In America"! IMO, it surpassed all the "Godfather" movies!

Leone could have easily gone with a series (I,II &III) with this one. It would easily equal the "Godfather" series! Maybe even surpassed IMO!

Well the thing with senator Bailey is that Max, actually, faked his death to escape the police like "forever". He then resurrested himself as Bailey to go on and live as not only rich and powerful but also respected citizen. Hope this clears things up :)

Googled OUATIA - got wikipedia synopsis,cast,etc.! At time of Max's faked death he was totally involved with Syndicate (against Noodles advice)! The Syndicate aided & abetted his transformation to Senator Bailey! HAH! See it doesn't take too freakin' long for this blonde to *finally* find the answers & figure it out!?

This movie did not get the recognition it deserved in America. The Ladd Company killed the movie when they shortened it and showed it in chronilogical order. This barbarous act subsequently killed Sergio Leone. He put his heart and soul in that movie and saw his efforts all go to waste.

This is my all-time favourite movie!! I first watched it on VHS in 1989 and have watched it many times since then. I bought the DVD when it came out and was happy with it except for the expanded scene with Noodles and Deborah in the car after their dinner. I know it was to demonstrate Noodles' difficulty with women but I think the scene was too extreme.
