My cat absolutely HATES being touched on her hindquarters/lower sides. She loves being gently scratched under her chin and will be purring like the happiest cat you've ever seen. But as soon as you touch her side near her tail (even if you brush it by accident) she goes CRAZY, swatting and hitting.

Some are put on a special "kill" list where they have 24 hours or if lucky, more time in hopes someone will adopt them. Most, 95%, are killed as soon as they are brought in if they are not micro chipped. Some cats have a traumatic past, or are just nervous, But I bet that same cat who hates petting would risk their life for you if there was a fire.

@Cashmachinez I have 6 cats, and one of them hates to be petted. I have to avoid the temptation to baby and spoil him with cuddles like I do the others because he hates it. He bites HARD, hard enough to make you bleed. Last few months he had all but 4 teeth pulled out because of a genetic condition and those 4 teeth still feel like a fish hook. I love him to death and he's as sweet as can be as long as I don't over pet him. cats are just like people, some prefer their space while others don't.
