  • Thanks for posting this classic song tutorial Tonedr! I used to marvel at my buddy playing this song back in the late 70's. I always wanted to play this song, and learned it from your video in about 20-30 minutes!

    -Rich

  • hello Rich, really glad the video helped and thanks for watching! Great tune....i wish you all the best with your music, dale.

  • This is an amazing tutorial! What amp settings are you using? I have a strat but a Marshall amp, could I get that?

  • Thanks for your kind words - sounds like you've got a great rig! My amp is on the Fender side for sure just 12 watts. All the best with your playing,

    dale

  • You are a great teacher! This is a fun tune to play.

  • thanks for your kind post.....all the best with your music!

    dale

  • I've seen many lessons on this song, and quite frankly I think you do one of the best jobs of breaking the song down... It was a real help.

I am having a hard time with another song, and thought you might be able to hep... it"s John Hall's "Half Moon" (Done by both Joplin and Orleans). I haven't seen anyone try to tackle that riff... Care to give it a try?

    Thanks again

    M

  • Appreciate the kind post - not familiar with the tune but may give it a listen - all the best with your music!

    dale

  • great job on this song. Hope you don't mind , I'm a guitar teacher and I used

  • thanks for giving your time to watch and i appreciate your kind post - all the best with your music!

  • Very nice instructional video -- it goes to show how great rock 'n roll doesn't need to be shredding guitar licks from exotic modes, nor fancy chord voicings -- just enthusiasm and dead solid rhythm.

  • well said!!!! Preach it brother... Thanks for your post.

    dale

  • could you give a lesson on Fall of the Peacemakers? I love Molly Hatchet.

    dale

  • You're an outstanding teacher! You made it very clear how to play the piece. I appreciate the slow motion parts of your video. The next thing is to do it myself. I'm a great fan of the Winter Bros for over 40 years and I never managed to play their pieces, perhaps this will be a breakthrough.

  • thanks for your kind post - i appreciate you watching and i know you will enjoy playing it! All the best with your music,

    dale

  • Ronnie Montrose was great. went to "They Only Come out at Night" about 73 I think

    Great Show

  • that's great...seemed like Montrose had a tune Bad Motorscooter i used to listen to - those were some great days!

  • Hi Dale, thanks for the reply, jamming buddy of mine was speaking to me couple ' months ago, he had gone to see the Winter Man in Concert, said he could barely play, Band carried him through the set, in which he did manage to play Free Ride, man is very frail and sick, what a tragedy, all the best man.

  • sad to hear but time marches on doesn't it - i think Johnny Winter has been very frail for a long time - they given us some good stuff!!

  • Like you say, it's getting the rythm right, how do you get to Carnegie Hall...............?

Must say I do like your ' Stratty Sound' on this one,

  • practice - practice - practice! Wish there was an easier way don't you......thanks for giving this a listen. all the best,

    dale

  • What a great riff this has! always been a real favourite of mine from way back, never could play it, not till I watched this lesson anyway!thanks for showing me the technique, now all I have to do is get the rythm right..........!

  • glad it helped and i hope you enjoy playing it.....thanks for watching!

  • my band covers this song i was wondering how u got this tone?

  • great to hear you are playing this tune! Using 2nd PUP position on strat - a little clean boost then to amp - all the best with your music!

  • @tonedr hows ur treble bass and mid set on ur amp and what kind of amp btw u can check my channel for my bands cover of it i learned it a very similar way as you

  • sounds great man ... the last lick is almost right (9:06) i'd play it on the D string with the open D in between the notes (C B A G riff) (D C D B D A D G riff).

  • Thanks for watching & great to hear you play this song - all the best!

    dale

  • your a great teacher. i absolutely love this tune as well! what amp settings do you recommend to get the best/most accurate or true to the recording sound?

  • Thanks for watching & your kind words are very appreciated! I wish I had a simple answer but so many different amps & guitars, however to match original a strat is a MUST - amp mostly clean, some verb I really hear no other effects. All the best with your music!

    dale

  • Hey, what are your setting on your amp for this when you play.

  • you can play but i think your tone is off by quite a bit, or at least for this song it is

  • sure appreciate you watching.......all the best,

    dale

  • sounds spot on to me... go back and listen to the original... this guy is money.

  • to be honest i think its his neck, because rosewood gives a more warm tone, and less twangy. And i just think it lacks the twanginess to it and its a little to warm

  • No he's got it right, bridge/mid postion for the cluck.

  • just because you have the right pickup selection does not mean you have the right tone, i just think it lacks the twanginess of the song and is a little to warm, which i think is due to the neck being rosewood

  • quite a bit? not really, and even if he was, what the fuck does it matter, he shows you how to play it well. critical fuck

  • Dale, This is great!! I love your tutorials! Awesome man! Thanks again, Shawn
