  • u a not right....

  • youre hyperextending the second finger which is bad...

  • no u do this hold 2 fingers on oppisite ends and then stick the middle one up (the fancy way)

  • This should be entitled how not to hold a pen. This is called finger writing and you are basically drawing your letters/words as opposed to actually writing them. You'll have better control and a better writing angle if your pen rests over or just forward of the bottom knuckle on your index finger, not between thumb and index finger.

  • This is penhold is exactly what handwriting specialists suggest NOT to use. It is usually called the "death grip".

  • Please people do not listen to the person in this video. First of all she probably doesn't know based on the poor quality pen. A bad Bic ballpoint. Really you want a fountain pen but a good rollerball is more practical. The idea way to hold a pen is with your index finger extended very far, the thumb resting on the side and higher up, and the middle finger resting on the other side.

  • I write with my feet.

  • tnx

  • That is precisely the way i hold my pen and my teacher told me to look up the proper way to hold a pencil and that he didn't have the time to teach a 13 year old to hold a pen properly...ugh!

  • I always hold it with my index and middle finger and my thumb. And then the pen rests on my ring finger and now it has a little bump. But it goes away over the summer when I'm not writing.

  • 1223Melo, I would love if you could send me a picture of your penhold.

  • No offence but your penhold is the complete opposite of what is usually prescribed by handwriting experts. First, you should never use the ''death grip'' (thumb over fingers) cause it creates too much tension. Second, studies show you will develop more speed with the index finger leading (closest to the point of the pen), Third, your pen should rest over or just forward of the bottom knuckle on your index finger. This way the ink will flow more easily, especially with modern writing tools. :-)

  • @reisset182 That's all true, but it's very difficult for some people to learn. I for instance, can't write with my index finger leading in front of my thumb...

  • I tried this starting yesterday offically. Helped immensly with my drawing. But my writing still fails, or barely noticiable improvement.

  • you 'ont tell no body what to do what if XXmintholicXX starts feelin' worse think up another way oh hey and XXmintholicXX try outting your thumb UNDER your index finger.

  • oh shit ive been on youtube about an hour trying to help my hand writing and i finally found a video that helps me thanx so much

  • i reiterate.

do not arch your pointer finger outwards and do not press the pad of the finger against the writing instrument.

you must flex the finger slightly in order to form an almost upside down L and press the very tip of your finger against the pen/pencil. long nails will get in the way and it takes practice

thats all i know. like i said, i was online trying to find if there were any more detailed technques on a more 'healthy' way to hold a pen/pencil when i came across this. sorry again

  • PLEASE LISTEN!

i used to hold my pen the exact same way for years and now im in med school and i find out that its the best way to cause calluses and damage the last interphalangeal joint of your pointer finger!

ITS SEEMINGLY ONE OF THE EASIEST WAYS BUT ALSO THE WRONG ONE!

the damage to the joint is because of the way you bend the finger causing it to form a slight arch.

you're actually supposed to use the very tip of your finger, not the pad.

thats why i was looking for help anyway. sorry

  • WTF!! I wRite Ugly! buT Now! DaMn! Dis WOrks!! thanK you!

    By The WaY!! CUte FingeRNaiLs!!^0^

  • OMG when i followed your rules on how to hold the pencil i wrote very different thank you so much now my handwriting looks like yours thank you thank you thank you thank you so much

  • Why are you curling your thumb around your index finger?

The important thing is that your hand and fingers are relaxed. The pen should be held lightly, the index finger should arc, almost the same way you would make an 'O' with your index finger and thumb.

  • to all you tube users I'm going to start on the road of a cartoonist but I'm worried the way I'm holding my pencil will affect my improvement in a bad way i have been drawing for about 4 years and I haven't improved that much should I hold the pencil the right way or should I hold it my way and just try harder

  • There is no write or wrong way to hold a pen or pencil and i cant hold a pen like that because 1 my handwriting goes really crappy ( worse than it already is) and 2 it hurts my finger

  • @LizzieP9 well you have to get used to it :P

  • @lvpd742 There still isnt a right or wrong way to hold a pencil.

  • i feel retarded watching theese videos seen im 15

  • @brutalsniper74 I'm 16 and I feel retarded too xD

  • @brutalsniper74 Lol same! I write differently to most people, and it works fine for me (except for in exams when I have like 2 hours of writing to do...), but I'd love to learn how to write "properly" x]

  • @brutalsniper74 its okay dude im sad enough too im 18 haha

  • @brutalsniper74

    me too lol

  • @brutalsniper74 You must be like 17 by now, and don't worry I'm 15 right now and I literally feel like a dumbass cause I can't hold a pencil. XD

  • @brutalsniper74 tell me about it.

  • I used to write with my second finger in control. Now I have a giant calice on my ring finger, hence why I'm looking for other ways to hold my pencil. I actually wrote neater with my second finger in control.

  • I have the same problem! It's such an immature situation, but I think this video helped.

  • thank you for the video its helping me quite nicely 5 stas and thanks for your help .x
