The reason those old VHS recordings suck so much is that unlike DVDs and their modern counterparts, they become worn out after being recorded over repeatedly, or played thousands of times. Recording in SP mode (2 hours) also gives you superior quality compared to EP (6 hours). How do I know? My parents are too cheap to get me a DVR for my room I still use recordable VHS, as well as recordable DVD-R's.
@MIKON8ERISBACK That is certainly part of it, but if the initial broadcast is crapy quality, even a DVD recording would come out looking bad. That being said, I have come across VHS recordings in EP from almost 30 years ago that look pretty good. All depends on the brand of tape, how they were stored, how much they were used, etc.
Is this a PSA about drinking or magic mushrooms? Works for both I guess!! LOL
