  • WAIT!!! 9 dislikes? wtf

  • What happens if you cross The Cure with The Gang Of Four?

  • Antidotes forever

  • this song fucking rocks.. hearts swelled.

  • FOALS YES!

  • anyone knows the tabs fot this song please???

  • poor bloke, he has a sore throat or someshit, yet he manages to carry on. The king of frontmen ;)

  • beardless yannis, thats a first

  • I guess Yannis has a cold or somethig cause his voice cracks quite a bit throughout and he looks really pissed at 1:43 when he fluffs a note. Still brilliant though, and the drummer is a beast.

  • jack bevan <3

  • Like how the sound live! :D

  • cant fuck with that in a million years. if i had a choice to listen to a song before i froze to death it would be this one.

  • @jahnaten Cool, what are they? :)

  • @Foals4Life i dont understand your question.

  • @jahnaten haha sorry i meant to reply to the comment below yours haha but yes I agree or some thing by the cure like underneath the satrs or to wish impossible things:)

  • i have the same studio headphones cool :D

  • @youmoko Cool, what are they? :)

  • I didn't know that Leonard from the Big Bang Theory had a band!?

  • 2:34 - 2:38 probably made him feel even worse. nonetheless, Foals did great in this. ^^

  • no comment needs more than two sentences. Go argue in the girls room.

  • What kind of rim is on the drummer's snare? I want to purchase one.

  • despite yannis' chain smoking catching up with him for this song, it's one of the best performances(sound wise) of this song that i've heard. the only thing that gets me, is that when ever they play this song its never nearly fast enough. i'm pretty sure that was a lot slower than the recording. and needs to be 10x faster live than on the recording instead. i only say this because of so much love for this song and wanting to be able to go mental to it instead of bop

  • Lol at yannis getting annoyed with his voice, i think

  • huge fun of them....so i like....

  • I'm not even a huge fan, but I was blown away by this . Sounds like studio quality. Very well done.

  • Yannis dont fucking shaaave omg... That man is so sexy with a beard. :<

  • poor..poor yannis, such a bad throat

  • @ElectriContradiction FUCK OFF

  • @decko87 I was being sympathetic you idiot. He's coughing and has a bad throat which is obvious. use some common sense before you go typing stuff like that you buffoon

  • Reminds me of Minus the Bear a little.

  • No offence but You guys have got to work on filming all the band mates.

  • jack bevan is god.

  • @RobsIsPRO Definitely

  • Is that an Echoplex on the floor in front of Yannis' amp?

  • Passion!

  • Anyone know the guitar Yannis is playing? One of the guitarists in The Redneck Manifesto plays the same one...

  • @mikedies89 travis bean

  • @mikedies89 it's a Travis Bean guitar, not sure of the model. They're expensive. :L

  • @mikedies89 Its a travis bean TB-1000 I think. Good luck getting/affording one though. They aren't in production anymore and they have aluminium necks. Ridiculously in demand. Alternatively have a look at EGC guitars

  • this is my favorite song of theirs, good progression, awesome ambience, just choice!!!

  • God Is An Astronaut I like and Russian Circles are cool. I have not heard of the band Jakob though but I will check them out

  • YEEEEAAAAH

  • post rock + new wave x (dancy awesome)= post wave = foals (kinda)

  • @ihatecarebears1 Post rock's one of my favourite genres nice maths sum ;)

  • @23lFrench :) Do you know God Is An Astronaut? Jakob? Russian Circles?

  • good stuff

  • DOPE! Awesome transitions

  • If The Cure and Explosions in the sky mated...this song would be the product.

  • the only good thing about Foals is the drummer, everything else is complete bollocks.

Thumb me down, go on! lols

  • @ScarlettStreet noone gives a shit about your ignorant opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • @hosway1992 4/4... so mathy...

  • @TheDivineAberration hahaha !

  • Yannis was sick. Pretty obvious

  • i had a dream that robert smith sat in with the sea and cake....and it sounded good...

  • Lovr

  • jack is a beast!

  • @magicpie77 HELL YEAH : D

  • All music is fundamentally a matter of taste...so there is not much point arguing whether the song/band is good or not, everyone tries to do their own thing....foals are IMO good, the version possibly does not do them justice.

  • Well said

  • There's something going on with the sound. Yannis keeps shaking his head with disapproval. ha

  • drummer is a machine

  • @MirumeXChaos I agree, he is a beast. He rapes the whole album

  • @MirumeXChaos Actually for me Foals is the only band (with Arctic Monkeys perhaps) owing everything to the drummer

  • Great band. thanx for posting.

  • using space in music is cool, this perf. is ok I like the use of effects I wish there was more to latch on to

  • why are people bashing this song??????, its not the best version but still worthy of 5 stars

  • Strongly disagree with this. Not really sure what 'pitchy monotone' means not 'melodic intertwining' nor 'spuratic(?) instrumentation.' They are indeed playing loops live, which is the case for 90% of pop music surely. As for the samples - yeh i think they are inspired by a lot of electronic music which would account for that - i like it. It sounds original to me, very fresh - but of course all response is subjective... also, what do you mean by 'it's the epitome of recording companies'?

  • contentious. i'm 20, which, although young, is enough to know about music. i'm a music student at oxford, so know a fair bit. i knew what you were trying to say about record companies...though i think you'll find more money than ever is given to bands to record and produce, simply because the cost of such activities is so much greater. yes, this performance isn't technically brilliant, but none is in pop or rock music - that's not what it's music is about at all. virtuosity can be found elsewher

  • have you studied theory you may know what i mean,or just listen to anything before 1975 would give you a good idea.and it not how much money is spent, its where they spend it.its cheaper to use a laptop for instruments than a musician, but the end result is much worse, music should take you on a trip, not drive you in circles.

  • I'm just curious semiLivedj, what's an example of a perfect band to you? Better not be The Beatles. I'm not even that huge of a Foals fan, and I'm not exactly defending their fanbase, I'm just wondering because you seem to have ultimate musical knowledge. So please, indulge me.

  • @fluffthebunny yea well said ... get it up you semiLivedj

  • @semiLivedj i agree with what youre saying, but like samej13, im 20 and i know a bit about music.ive been recording since i was 15 doing covers & originals.ive gone from using tooth pick boxes as shakers in songs to using only one guitar and using my computer for the rest of the instruments to me playing my acoustic with a harmonica.its not just about the companies.musicians need to want to be original and unique otherwise there can be no evolution.weve come a long way,but weve got a ways to go

  • @semiLivedj it has nothing to do with the companies or laptops... music is evolving its as simple as that. if you dont like that then go listen to some led zep or some deep purple. no need to spam here.

  • @semiLivedj I don't particularly like Foals' use of loops, I do not think that it is that imaginative or groundbreaking. However, experimentation is and has always been a integral part of music and musicianship, and I think your seemingly naive assumption that musicians use laptops just to be "cheaper" is inaccurate. I don't want to put words in your mouth or bash you like some of these guys have been, I'm just interested in what you meant.

  • @Dakotaisunavailable All im saying is that you can really tell that the way they write and perform reflects alot of the negitivity and crap that the music industry has been feeding people for years, loops and samples are just tools for making the recording process less expensive, and if something sounded bad when used, they would change the song to fit the crappy sounds they were using to not have to hire a musician.and alot of this shows in their work. Its not their fault, they just dont know better

  • @semiLivedj Well i don't completely agree with you that loops and samples are ONLY used to make the recording process less expensive [if thats what you're saying. if not, my bad], some bands put a lot of time and effort into using the medium effectively in my opinion. As far as what Foals' music reflects of the negative impact that the recording industry has had on musicianship, I tend to agree with you. I need to explore more of their music before I can say that with finality, though.

  • @Dakotaisunavailable I am an experienced drummer and have done alot of studio time, and loops and samples are use to speed up the recording process, and you dont have to hire musicians either,It kills 2 birds if you get what i mean, and as far as putting alot of time into using loops and samples, may be so but its not studio time.Im sure its being able to produce them live is the main concern.Who is going to do it?Hire another musician, dont think so,not if their using them in the first place.

  • @semiLivedj ha i'm a musician myself...i dont have what i would call aLOT of studio time under my belt yet, probly only a hundred hours and some change. but i sing and play guitar, mandolin, trumpet, piano....and i'm just starting to pick up drumming, ironically. I think when we say "loops" and "sampling" we're referring to slightly different things....

  • @semiLivedj I, of course, totally agree with you, in a recording studio, loops and samples of instruments are often used to speed up the recording process, i'm guilty of doing it myself when i'm using my 8 track at home. I meant more like when bands use samples of sounds that aren't made with an instrument as an integral part of their sound. But yeah, long story short, using loops and samples to cut corners...not the right way to do it. I'd rather learn to play it myself. if i have the time.

  • @Dakotaisunavailable The sounds that are not instruments are seldom used in most cases,a good synth can pretty much cover most sounds. But to me,if you cant reproduce what you have done in a live situation, than its pointless,I like to play live far more than trying to create (record) something that is unique in sound but can never do it like you did on the recording live. But it is kinda fun to expeirment with the new tech to give something a new twist. But playing live is my first passion.

  • Just to clear this up....

It doesn't matter that you're a music student at Oxford. That doesn't mean you know shit. Actually, IT DOES mean that you know how to read about music out of a textbook, you know how to over-analyze the music itself, and it also mean that you know how to pass tests.

But IT DOESN'T mean you know about music.

  • Yo, I cited where and what I'm studying because the person I was in discourse with stated that if I 'had ever studied theory I would understand him'. I said I know 'a fair bit' about music which isn't really unreasonable; if I'd claimed to be a world authority then I'd understand your outrage. I accept that studying where I am has its limitations, but it demonstrates I can do a lot more than you've listed.

  • To be honest, education in Music still leaves you knowing shit all except from how to read scores and knowing the birth dates of famous composers.

  • Fag.

  • ...

modern music tries to break some new paths, some do not break them. Foals are a minimalistic band, so what? the music they make is absolutely monumental.

And i do like your "old music"....

  • yeah but their is a way to be minimalstic and still have great musicianship, for instince the cars.

  • they're*

    companies*

    musicians*

    sporadic*

i bet you arrange grammy worthy music right?

  • What a dick this guy is. First he corrects the guy telling him the 'right' way to spell words other people made up. Then he mentions some meaningless academy award program. Not to mention his username.

  • i hope you're being sarcastic man.

  • Of course I'm not.

  • @semiLivedj You just said "pitchy monotone". You've instantly invalidated anything you have to say about music.

  • I love this band, but I love how stupidly high they hold their guitars.. must need to see the strings or some shit.

  • who gives a fuck bout how the instrument is played or anything... does it sound good? yes? then shut the fuck up.

  • it makes it easier to play . . and a lot of people wear them like that

  • Good band, as long as it takes me somewhere. :}

  • i wouldve shit my pants if i heard them on the radio .......yannis is amazing ..very talented man

  • @SwaziStogen

Skinny jeans in rock will never become cliched! At every point in time since the 50's (or 501s) there has always been a rock-genre (made up fact) that favoured the "second skin" :-)

  • Very true. Skinny jeans, like converse and leather jackets will never go away as long as rock exists.

  • hahaha yeah havent they become cliche yet?

  • what do u mean by skinny jeans sigh

  • its just typical isn't it?

  • @invictorium Who the fuck cares?!

  • not me

  • They don't look skinny they seem more fitted. Also it's 2009 if you want to see people in baggy/loose fit jeans go to a some alt rock bands concert.

  • i think you mean fitted, skinny are like TOOO tight around the ankles....pipe jeans they were called in the 50's i believe.....

  • what kind of snare drum does jack use? x

  • this song especially wen they sing it live....its amazing!

  • I don't think he's angry... just passionate... at least there are still artists out there who gain passion from their art and craft!!!

  • his vocals are too loud, he can't hear himself. he's playing blind, as such

  • it always makes me laugh how high he holds his guitar.

    what an amazing band. :D

  • yannis looks pissed off in every video

  • that because befre nearly everytime he plays he gets blazed :D

legenddd, and what a songggg this is.

    cant get enough of foals

  • i'm from sweden, ´but I still love them

  • what

  • he seems sick or something

  • he is angry cause his microfone aint loud you could nottice on the frech open video

  • i just LOVEEEE the sound of the snare drum

    its like a chopping sound

  • aye, yamaha does wicked drums.

  • I FUCKING LOVE FOALS

  • If you foals you met like to listen to three trapped tigers. you could say there a fusion between foals, holy fuck ( who supported foals at Brixton), and battles. The Drummer is amazing.

  • He looks pissed!

  • wow i wish there was a station in chicago that playd bands like this one

  • Wow.....

  • actually he was having some problems with his throat from a cold. His headphone mix was a little off but it was corrected. that mic is about as standard of a mic as you can get for vocals. They had just been touring for a long time and this was the last day, they were tired but still came in to perform for us.

  • well, thanks for clarifying. then i guess yannis is a bit more disappointed with himself than with anything else.

  • yeahh, i can hear it

    still amazing

  • @kexpradio What a drama queen

  • watch him at 1:42

  • yeah, thats one angry Foal... still a good one

  • Good mic but it's a dynamic mic because of the 'live in a room" environment. Standard gear for this application. Unfortunately he is singing 6-8" from the mic. If it was a condenser mic he could do that IF there were no other instruments in the room but just won't work in this environment.. The dynamic has a very near pattern to reject any outside noise but his voice If he were close enough. Bottom line, he is singing into the live performance mic from WAY too far away. He'll learn, though

  • @magicpie77 Yeah there is alot more reverb that usual I must say.. :S

  • how cool is that compressed roll thing he does?!?!

  • lol@ 1:45

  • Sounds like he as a sore throat

  • They should at least give him a good mic, he didn't like that at all.

  • was that a "what the f**k" i saw him say? tut tut tut, definately seems to be having problems but still basically amazing

  • Was yanis having trouble with his vocals because he didnt look happpy or like he was nejoying him self like he usially does ,

  • true

  • you guys serious? I've seen Foals a few times, met them as well and Yannis never seems to be a happy bunny haha

    Jack is amazing.

  • What is that snare he uses?

    I want it!

  • he is quality drummer

  • jack is a MACHINE!
