@themthrashinkids The X3 Live comes with bass amp models and can indeed support two instruments at once. The HD500 can also support two instruments at once but does not include any bass amp models.
Or what about the POD hd pro? this is really the first time I have been looking at these, and like I said I need something to completely replace my amp, not add on to it.
@walshy0001 this is a preamp that models other amplifiers. You can hook it up to powered speakers or a power amp section for live use or run it directly to a mixing board to a PA system. You can also use it with headphones without having to connect it to speakers or an amp.
Can you record stright to your computer with a POD hd500? Or should I just stick with an x3? because I need something to completely REPLACE my crappy amp that I have, so I'm thinking of something like a pod which is easy and I can just plug straight into my comp.
so dose this plug through the amp and you plug the guitar into it? and is it %299 or $399 guitar center has it labled 2 diffrent things...and omg anybody could use this even a cow bell player....more phaser delays on the COW BELL! lmao idk can you?
@xlxfinaldeathwishxlx the POD is a preamp so you plug your guitar into it and then plug the output of the POD into your amp. I can't speak to why the prices vary. Your dealer will have to help you out with that one.
@TheMusiikkimies yes. The POD X3 Bean works fine on it's own with an amplifier. It doesn't need to be connected to a computer because it has its own on board processing.
Hey guys, check the video on my page titled "Celestial Sphere" to get a really good idea on what the POD X3 is capable of. With the right tweaks and EQ, you can create a sound that is up to par with many high end amps. No joke.
@DriveByInAYugo Have you reached out to Line 6 Support so they can help you get up and running? If not, visit the Line6 website and click on Support at the top navigation.
@line6movies I didn't call up Line 6 yet...I just looked through the manuals, and on forums and i cant even figure out what output cable i'm supposed to use. I just want to connect it to the computer so I can play...but cant find instructions how to...my line Line In though has been giving me problems for years..I blew out my sound card 3 times, trying to hook up my amp to the PC...i never got a sound out of it, while on my other computer it worked....i was just planning on returning it..
@DriveByInAYugo sorry you're so frustrated. I'm assuming you're talking about the POD correct? If so, connect it to a USB port on your computer and plug headphones or powered computer speakers into the headphone jack of your POD. It's easier to monitor that way. You can even set the POD to be your sound card to route all audio through it (iTunes, WMP, etc) if you go to your control panel and set it under Sounds>Audio.
can you give me the settings of preset 5160? i have the POD x3 and i chose that preset but sounds diferent.. i was looking for that sound for me.. wich pickups is he using? what's the better way connecting to get the best sound of the pod? thank you
@shadok11 You can download Gearbox and use it to reference the way the that preset is dialed in. Just download it from our website. In the Video, our product specialist is playing a Jackson guitar with active pickups so keep in mind that the type of guitar you play colors your tone immensely.
@tafytr the POD X3 Live has some extra inputs and outputs. Check out our website and click on the POD section and then "Compare" and it's spelled out nicely.
@asempiresburn There are some things we have to provide to tell about the product, but would like to hear your suggestions on what you would enjoy seeing in these videos?
@Neltheros Hi, the X3 series units all cater for recording or live, regardless of form factor as they all have identical tone capabilities (and options to choose between 'live' outs and 'studio' outs). I use the live as its handy for both - the ideal setup would be an x3 pro with a longboard, though that would be expensive! the HD units do sound ace, but are mainly aimed at the stage - and with the HD models they have taken away vocals & bass capabilities... I prefer the x3 for this reason...
@Ankamaandre I would say yes. The X3 is versatile enough to dial in a Green Day tone. It’s always good to know what gear the band actually uses so you can try to match that on the POD.
@XFattMonsterX Hi, I would suggest you head over to the Line 6 forums where you could talk to people who have used both. Just visit line6 (dot) com /discussions
@StopRunningKid You can turn the amp modeling off if you'd like. You can also send an unprocessed signal via the USB connection from the POD to your recording application.
@bunyatyan Hi, I asked our product specialist who was playing the Jackson and he said "custom-shop Jackson archtop soloist. They have made some production runs of this guitar, but the version I am playing is a little different than the "norm."
@Aftershock122 Plug the mic into the XLR input on the POD (make sure you are using a dynamic mic as the POD will not power a condenser mic). Set Tone 1 to be a mic pre model. Set the input on your POD to "mic".
@wolfman109h If all you want to use it for is recording and NOT live use then go with a POD Studio device. If you plan on gigging live then the X3 is probably the better choice.
i know its completley different but can the x3 sound like a tube amp cause i might get a jsx but hurting cash so i might go for pod farm or x3 what are the pros cons?
@12345678ix This can be very subjective, what might help is to head over to the Line 6 forums (go to line6 website and click on community in the top nav) and discuss with other POD X3 users on the sounds that they have used or created and enjoy. Thanks.
im thinking of getting one of these but how does it actually work? does the guitar plug into it then into a computer? and do you have to run it through an amp? and do you edit your recordings with a special program?????
@CunnyFunt92 All of the above. The X3 can be used as a USB audio interface directly into your computer. In this case you can monitor out of an amplifier if you wish but you'd be better off plugging studio monitors or headphones into your POD. You can edit your tones on your computer with the Gearbox editor, a free download at the Line 6 website. The POD can also be used live on stage connected to an amplifier.
@TheBelva85 Depends what you are looking for. If you want amp modeling then nothing beats the POD into a PA. If you already have an amp that you like and just need effects I’d say go M13 all the way.
@line6movies I've got a little vox vr15. Pretty nice sound, that's why I was wondering: difference in sound from transisor to amp modeling shouldn't be as big as from valve to amp modeling, right? Or shall I just keep the little tranistor thing (little but still lextra weight to carry ) and buy me a m13? I mean we'ren ot tlaking about a real vox ac30 vs amo mod, we're talking about a 100 dollars amp vs amp modeling. Sorry for my disjointed english, I really hope you got my problem! Take care.
@TheBelva85 The difference in tone between your little Vox and our amp modeling should be minimal. In fact, I think you’d be able to dial in a tone almost identical to it with a POD.
What's the differences between the pod x3 and the pod x3 live, the pod x3 seems more popular, is that better or something? are there many comparisons?
@bandofredempion No difference in sounds, models, etc. Just the form factor of what you would like to use it for. Stage, might want x3 live. Studio, then maybe x3 will be the way to go. If you want to compare all the PODs, you can go to line6 /pod/ and click on Compare All. Thanks.
@line6movies Ahh, thanks man that compare page was helpful, one more think though, do they differ in recording quality like can one sound better than the other are they practically the same?
Say me and a friend wanted to record something, could we plug both guitars in with both of our amps then in to the computer to record both guitars at once?
@bandofredempion You could plug one guitar into the instrument input and one guitar into the AUX input and create a dual tone patch and then send those signals down the USB through separate sends into your DAW.
If I were to buy the Pod X3 (not live) and have the 2nd guitarist plug in his guitar into the pedal along with mine can we each have our own FBV Shortboard MkII connected to it so we have controls for the each of us when playing together? 2 Guitars -> Pod X3 -> 2 FBV Shortboard MkII IS that possible? or would we just waste our money by trying this setup?
Just curious I have a Pod X3 (Not a Pod X3 Live) and I want to be able to switch between effects and all of that like a pedal with my feet instead of bending over to change it. Is there an add on I can buy to let me do this?
@PeteDonaghy Any of the FBV MkII foot controllers will allow you to do this. For the POD X3, I'd recommend the FBV Shortboard MkII. You can learn more about them at the Line6 site /footcontrollers/
@line6movies i have an fbv 4 which i got with my flextone3 around 6 or 7 years ago, will this work with the pod x3, im sure it said it would in the compatability chart at the line6 web site but when i went to double check the fbv4 had been removed from the site, im guessing this is because its no longer avalible for purchase, cheers
If only line6 built this pod to be as tough as the gt-10. Ive had trouble with the foot switches within just months with the line6( I gig a lot) and Im not that heavy! Also people who say line-6 rules over boss are being too quick, The gt-10 can get amazing tones you just have to do some editing and tweak stuff. Line6 is emphasizing only on presets. Ive owned both and the shine in different fields,
No one answers anything about 5 months but I'm thinking of getting Pod X3 Live to connect to my Technics SA-AX 710 Av Control Stereo Receiver and powerful Jamo BX 200A 350W Cabinets. Does Pod X3 Live work well on hi-fi systems ? I really need an answer because X3 Live costs 500 Euro in Turkey. I have compared it's sound with Boss GT-10. X3 Live is exactly better.
I had a Boss Gt10 for over a year and i have never been able to get a killer heavy tone. I traded it against a Pod X3 at the weekend and within 1 hour I had the tone I have been searching for, Boss Sucks. Line 6 rules
I am searching for processor which would be good for gigs and lately I am reading a lot of reviews and I have to admit, that sound test is acceptable and modern for these times, but X3 Live is made of snivel, almost every people I've asked about reliability says that knobs are small and very flimsy, some people are returning X3 Live third time to get fixed. Sound is good, but how will I play the concert to earn back money what I invest in tech? I choose BOSS because of it's armored bodywork.
Nice video. Question for you guys: For recording, one thing I'd want is to put in two guitars (recorded simultaneously), each with its own sound. They may be two totally different sounds, recorded on separate tracks at the same time. Can this machine do that? Thanks.
@fender7375 I think If you create 2 tones, pan one guitar sound to the left channel and the other guitar sound to the right, then use the stereo outputs, each to an individual channel on your mixing desk, then you would be able to mix these seperately... I hope this works for you, i'll have mine this week :)
i ve connected my guitar through the pod x3 live to my computer and recorded it with the programm audacity... but the sound isnt as good (very bass tone/inexact/more distorted) as if i connect the pod x3 with my amp - can someone help me? what do i have to do ?
besides, i want to record without the programm of line 6
hey, i've got a POD X3 and think it's great but does anyone know any websites or anything where it lists songs to play with the closest sounding preset to play it with because that would be awsome
Download Gearbox if you haven't already. You can control your POD from your computer and instantly select tones from different bands including, Metallica, Deftones, Satic X and many more.
Restoring your POD X3 Bean back to its Factory Presets:
Press and hold the 'Home/Hold For Commands' button, select 'Reset User Presets' and press the 'Save' knob to reset the User bank to its factory presets.
ok im a noob so bare with me : is this for 1)connecting to your amp? or 2) PC to use AS the amp . and does that mean will be able to sound like a tube amp with either ?
It does both. I've never seen a piece of gear that was more like a swiss army knife than the Pod X3. The only complaint I have is that I wish the controls were detatchable in much the same way the X3 and floorboard combo are, but it's so nice having everything in a very rugged unit.
I have Guitar Rig 3 and I've tried Amplitube. Amplitube is comparable, but seemingly less varied. The choices are truly representative of an entire rainbow of tone. The tube dynamics are damn good, clean or dirty.
It comes with a free copy of Pod Farm, which is what really makes it a complete package (you can run multiple instances and you get every single model that's in the hardware) but you can hook the board up to monitors, an amp, a mixer, whatever. It has SPDIF, dual XLR, dual 1/4", USB ASIO audio, and I can't think of any other output that you could possibly use. Asking for optical would be splitting hairs with SPDIF, but that's the only one that isn't there.
Hi, I am about ready to purchase the Pod X3 Live but I would like to know what the difference between the X3 Live and the X3are. I have also heard some people say that the X3 Live is a bit fragile and should mostly be used for recording instead of gigging. I would really like to know your opinion, thanks.
If you want to use your PreSonus as your main audio interface, then use the SPDIF output on the POD and connect that to the SPDIF input on your PreSonus.
Well, I'd know whether there's only heavy and very pretty dirt distortion sounds and amps simulations(as seen in the video above) in the pod x3 , or it has some other regulations that allow me a classic and tube distortion sounds.
why yes, my friend.. I bought the Pod X3 Live because I wanted a tube sound out of my solid state amp, and I got just what I was looking for. You can even upgrade the quality of your sound with just a few adjustments, I'm currently posting some video demos of this amazing pedal. I like music from the 60's, you know that psychedelic sound, and also those fine reverbs from classic fender amps, I love for example Dick Dale's tone and also SRV, you can get everything out of this pedal ;) good luck
I plug the x3 live directly to our church's PA via XLR and its pretty amazing. You can use this thing for pretty much anything, recording and live use. The only time I use the pc with it is for Gearbox software, which is a miracle for editing with this thing. haha
The POD X3 and X3 Live are meant to be used as live devices first and as computer interfaces second. So yes, you can use this live at your house or in your church band.
I've bought this today, its so awesome, today I only used it between my guitar and amp for the effects.. when I want to use it at the computer it says I need some included CD to install it.. CD is not included but I'll call the local music store when its opened again
Haha, I have to agree with you there! Two guys that really do the POD justice are Chris Feener and Francisco Meza. They should be advertising for this thing, lol.
contrary to some misinformation on the web, the X3 is NOT just an XT with all the model packs - the actual amp tones are BETTER. Plus, with the bass, vocal preamps, dual tones, it's a NO BRAINER. X3 is THE top of the line in amp modeling. I would sell every piece of gear I own before getting rid of my X3.
How do i plug my Pod x3 live into the computer and use the speakers on my computer ? instead of using an amp???? Pls reply

2meanings 1 year ago
@2meanings Sorry but no. The POD only has one FBV Shortboard MkII input jack.

Just curious I have a Pod X3 (Not a Pod X3 Live) and I want to be able to switch between effects and all of that like a pedal with my feet instead of bending over to change it. Is there an add on I can buy to let me do this?
PeteDonaghy 1 year ago
@PeteDonaghy Any of the FBV MkII foot controllers will allow you to do this. For the POD X3, I'd recommend the FBV Shortboard MkII. You can learn more about them at the Line6 site /footcontrollers/

@line6movies i have an fbv 4 which i got with my flextone3 around 6 or 7 years ago, will this work with the pod x3, im sure it said it would in the compatability chart at the line6 web site but when i went to double check the fbv4 had been removed from the site, im guessing this is because its no longer avalible for purchase, cheers
thehornyscotsman 1 year ago
@thehornyscotsman Yes. The FBV4 is compatible with the X3.

I'm about to purchase this after realising my Boss GT-5 just can't cut it.....SAVE ME!
Harrysound 1 year ago

X3 Live is exactly better.
intaomri 2 years ago
I had a Boss Gt10 for over a year and i have never been able to get a killer heavy tone. I traded it against a Pod X3 at the weekend and within 1 hour I had the tone I have been searching for, Boss Sucks. Line 6 rules
debdar39 2 years ago 2

Thanks.
fender7375 2 years ago
@fender7375 I think If you create 2 tones, pan one guitar sound to the left channel and the other guitar sound to the right, then use the stereo outputs, each to an individual channel on your mixing desk, then you would be able to mix these seperately... I hope this works for you, i'll have mine this week :)

Plug one guitar into the Guitar Input and the other guitar into the AUX input. Set up a dual tone and set the Inputs on the POD to Guitar+AUX.

i ve connected my guitar through the pod x3 live to my computer and recorded it with the programm audacity... but the sound isnt as good (very bass tone/inexact/more distorted) as if i connect the pod x3 with my amp - can someone help me? what do i have to do ?
besides, i want to record without the programm of line 6

From what you've said, it sounds like maybe you need to check your levels in Audacity, maybe reduce the input level.
guitardbucket 2 years ago
hey, i've got a POD X3 and think it's great but does anyone know any websites or anything where it lists songs to play with the closest sounding preset to play it with because that would be awsome

Download Gearbox if you haven't already. You can control your POD from your computer and instantly select tones from different bands including, Metallica, Deftones, Satic X and many more.

You'll want to plug your second guitar or bass into the AUX input of the POD X3 Live.

Hey man. Nice Video.
I just have a question for you though.. Is there any way to reset your POD X3 Effects back to the way they were originally?
illium1865 2 years ago
Restoring your POD X3 Bean back to its Factory Presets:
Press and hold the 'Home/Hold For Commands' button, select 'Reset User Presets' and press the 'Save' knob to reset the User bank to its factory presets.
line6movies 2 years ago
Oh , Thanks Dude.
Just one more question. Do you know how exactly to program your own effects in there? I've heard there is a way to do it. I just don't know how.
illium1865 2 years ago
You can edit the parameters of all of the effects in the X3.

ok im a noob so bare with me : is this for 1)connecting to your amp? or 2) PC to use AS the amp . and does that mean will be able to sound like a tube amp with either ?
slyneph 2 years ago
You can do a lot of things... look a the website ;)
Tomgrandelf 2 years ago
It does both. I've never seen a piece of gear that was more like a swiss army knife than the Pod X3. The only complaint I have is that I wish the controls were detatchable in much the same way the X3 and floorboard combo are, but it's so nice having everything in a very rugged unit.
I have Guitar Rig 3 and I've tried Amplitube. Amplitube is comparable, but seemingly less varied. The choices are truly representative of an entire rainbow of tone. The tube dynamics are damn good, clean or dirty.

hey wat monitors do use guys use at line 6?
bcrichboy06 2 years ago
What software do you need to use with these?
Cubase?
kilyatwice 2 years ago
It comes with a free copy of Pod Farm, which is what really makes it a complete package (you can run multiple instances and you get every single model that's in the hardware) but you can hook the board up to monitors, an amp, a mixer, whatever. It has SPDIF, dual XLR, dual 1/4", USB ASIO audio, and I can't think of any other output that you could possibly use. Asking for optical would be splitting hairs with SPDIF, but that's the only one that isn't there.
dafragsta 2 years ago
Hi, I am about ready to purchase the Pod X3 Live but I would like to know what the difference between the X3 Live and the X3are. I have also heard some people say that the X3 Live is a bit fragile and should mostly be used for recording instead of gigging. I would really like to know your opinion, thanks.
FunGuyYves 2 years ago
what is best to record? USB or over line to a interface. I own the presonus firestudio......
hop u cn help. thx
ind3c3nt 2 years ago
If you want to use your PreSonus as your main audio interface, then use the SPDIF output on the POD and connect that to the SPDIF input on your PreSonus.
line6movies 2 years ago
how is the record quality through the spdif?
senescencia 2 years ago
Fantastic. The X3 will sample up to 96k through the stereo SPDIF connections.

so this is a soundcard?
MetalHeadW 2 years ago
The POD X3 can be set as a system sound card on your PC or Mac computer.
line6movies 2 years ago
Well, I'd know whether there's only heavy and very pretty dirt distortion sounds and amps simulations(as seen in the video above) in the pod x3 , or it has some other regulations that allow me a classic and tube distortion sounds.
pliniorock15 2 years ago
why yes, my friend.. I bought the Pod X3 Live because I wanted a tube sound out of my solid state amp, and I got just what I was looking for. You can even upgrade the quality of your sound with just a few adjustments, I'm currently posting some video demos of this amazing pedal. I like music from the 60's, you know that psychedelic sound, and also those fine reverbs from classic fender amps, I love for example Dick Dale's tone and also SRV, you can get everything out of this pedal ;) good luck
leiviartit 2 years ago
Ok I'm kinda new to all this so forgive me for sounding stupid.
Is this strictly used for recording and is a computer required?
I'm curious because I just want to use this at my house for fun and maybe in the band at our church.
NathanRyanAllen 2 years ago
I plug the x3 live directly to our church's PA via XLR and its pretty amazing. You can use this thing for pretty much anything, recording and live use. The only time I use the pc with it is for Gearbox software, which is a miracle for editing with this thing. haha
EmbracetheGray 2 years ago
The POD X3 and X3 Live are meant to be used as live devices first and as computer interfaces second. So yes, you can use this live at your house or in your church band.

GOUDIE12 2 years ago
contrary to some misinformation on the web, the X3 is NOT just an XT with all the model packs - the actual amp tones are BETTER. Plus, with the bass, vocal preamps, dual tones, it's a NO BRAINER. X3 is THE top of the line in amp modeling. I would sell every piece of gear I own before getting rid of my X3.
