genius,mJ chose Bruce in every project later years even when the main producer disagreed. If you stop to think he is the only one of the Thriller team that he kept
I've read that Quincy Jones did not want "Billie Jean" on the Thriller album!! Isn't that crazy?! Furthermore, Quincy wanted to title it, "Not My Lover". In the end, Michael won this battle, thankfully.
Great video!! Bruce produced, recorded and mixed our album last year in the studio you see in the video. He is nothing short of a genius and a true gentleman to work with. What an honor to call him friend and to have had the chance to work with a true living legend.
They should release or compile a special Thriller Edition - The Bruce Swedien Mixes with full mix commentary by Bruce on each track. That would be fascinating, just a box-set or multi-CD or DVD or somethin'!
The demo of BJ was done with an LM-1 for the drum track, but the final versions were live drumming. In the later part of BJ you I hear a Linn clap pitched very high in the mix, so I think the drummer followed the original LM-1 drum machine to give it a more organic feel. Just a note on what I think.
Live drum played by JeffPocaro(R.I.P.)?.I always wondered which synth they've used for the main bass line for the Thriller.Probably MiniMoog etc.MJ was well known for liking synths and stuff (he liked KraftWerk,YMO etc).Always nice to see these behind the scene tech stuff.Brill.
