these buildings are actually what is left of Fort Andrews, coastal defence for the city of Boston, which was built around 1905. It was used in WWI, WWII, and 'decommissioned' around 1950. Thats when the army abandonded the post. The island was bought by a man in the 1960s, who planned to develop houses on the island, but didn't. The Commonwealth took it from him in the 1970s, for inclusion in the Harbor Islands State Park, formed in 1976. Now it's a park, and cottage community.
these aren't house that you were looking at. they are old buildings that were destroyed years ago, such as the old hospital, gym, church, etc. there are houses/cottages on the other side of the island that have families living in them year round and summer cottages
My aunt, uncle and cousins lived on this end of the island during the 60s and 70s. I remember diving off the wharf there!
