@jackofkiwiland youd think, but its actually SUPER easy to find something thats buzzing/bad patch/bad ground/bad pedal because there are only 3 pedals outside of the true bypass looper (wah, volume, BBE sonic stomp) everything else is through the looper.meaning that process of illimination is basic trouble shooting.first turn off ALL feeds on the looper to the pedals...if there is still an issue it has to be either my guitar, cable to board, patches going to the 3 pedals, cable to amp, or amp.
@jackofkiwiland i actually had a gig last year where something like that happened while in sound checking and i figured it out in minutes... the frustrating part was having everything under mounted but super easy to fix on the fly.... true pass looper saved my life ;)
wow thats a huge board and looks like you got a variety of sounds to choose from. but how come you put your booster after your distortions? i never thought of that cause i usually put it before my volume pedal lol. thanks for doing this video.
good question. Boost before drive will compress your drive signal giving it a more "driven sound"....boost AFTER drive will just bring the volume up only. it depends also how you are running your amp...i mostly use my amp's natural overdrive so if i "boost" the volume i will actually compress my amps "natural" drive. a lot of people you will hear use the term "PUSHING" your amp/tubes/pedals etc... this is what they mean by that
@mrmaswenson the switcher i got from baron at younworks(dot)com
and the mod i had done by jack at jhv3d(dot)com but the hinge of it all was the master momentary switch i had installed into my road rage switcher when it was being made you can find that at roadrageprogear(dot)com they are built like tanks!
answer: because being hired by different artists means i need to be versitile...and i have pretty much all my gounds covered with this board. this is pretty common...the last studio session i did, i used EVERY single pedal on this board EXCEPT the wah.
there are some really kewl studios up in nashville where they have patchbays to a LOT more pedals to go through and more amps than i own... which btw, my board and amps have changed slightly since then... update soon.
yup.... the pedal does a pretty convincing super lead, jtm45 AND jcm800 brown sound quite convincingly and thats what josh farrow (from paramore) used .... i use the pedal for classic rock overdrive/distortion using vintage which has a looser bass response sound to "modern" distortion sounds which are usually tighter and more cutting... i personally play amp-wise through a jtm 45, 59 bassman, and a 63 ac30, to boot... love the sound of the pinnacle... great all around pedal
custom paint job from JHS.... i forgot how much it was... i might be selling it for as much as a standard one (no custom paint job) would be new.... i barely use it.... i used it for a tour i did last year....but i dont use it anymore....barely used mint condition...let me know
Thanks for the great vid. It's always cool to see how other guitarists are setting up there pedal boards. I just picked up a MXR GT-OD today and love the fact that it's a very smooth overdrive. Another really cool thing I noticed was the gain doesn't increase the volume when it's turned up full which means lots of diversity from such a simple pedal.
Concerning the Nova Delay, has it been reliable? Any issues with freezing/locking up? Does it thin out your overall tone?
thanks man, to be honest about the nova delay...it's one of the best digital delay pedals ive ever played on and hands down one of the best sounding... i currently play through and eventide for touring purposes just makes things easier. but the nova is great ive had ZERO issues with it... however i know one other buddy of mine up in AL that has one and it froze on him. as for me i loved every minute of using it
it basically makes all your frequencies more pronounced so you can have better definition and response. imagine lows mids and highs as colors red, green, blue coming out of a hose. normally everything comes out at once making the color brown (mud)... the sonic stomp lines up all the colors in order so its not just a mush color coming out... you can identify colors lined up pristinely...this is what i mean by everything is pronounced. hope this helps
i got a few messages asking for that...ill make sure i do a video update on my board, AND play more...this was a response to quite a few people asking how i run my rig modulation and delays more so and how i have my delay syncing my trems for chop stuff i do live on tour. more to come ;)
hi ! I am wondering, why do you use a looper since you only use one pedal by loop ? Especially with true bypass pedals, its not a criticism, it's just that i would understand the utility of a looper in this case
actually i use quite a number of pedals in the loop.... there are lots of great articles about signal degradation and how that happens the more cable length you add to your chain, you should check out JHS' little black buffer demo, they do a GREAT demo showing what happens to your signal.... i use quite a few different pedals, the only ones out of the chain are my wah (beginning of chain), volume (middle of chain), and bbe sonic stomp (end of chain)
i play in several different capacities... church and touring
my home church is calvary chapel Boca (satellite of calvary Fort Lauderdale) but i also serve with lots of friends all over the US at different churches in FL, AL, TX, NC, SC, VA.
i put my volume pedal after my drives and before my delay and modulation to allow me to control the volume of the drives but not the actual output hitting the drives..., i have two loopers and i play with my volume in between the two loopers to achieve this. it makes it two where i can swell in with lots of drive if i want to...and NOT swelling in clean to driven.....its hard to explain without hearing the difference...ill be doing more vids soon, sorry been very busy recently
My personal conclusion from what you said is that the difference between progr. and nonprogr. loopers is the price and the volume. The quality in terms of the guitar sound is the same.
Thank you so much for your detailed and comprehensive answers.
Hi man!I really like your setup.I have also many pedals and I'm looking for a long time to find a simple solution to obtain a very unaltered guitar sound. It seems that the solution is to connect all pedals in one large 8 or 10 true bypass looper.
What brand of looper you use?You use two with 4 loops?
there are a few options you can run your rig using pedals...
1)just run your pedals chained to one another, but this is like a hose attached to the spicket outside your house; the longer the hose the longer it takes for the water to get to the end AND it isn't as full blast stream as it would be directly from the source.... this can be fixed however with a high quality buffer to strengthen the signal and eliminate signal degradation ie "jhs little black buffer" its great for this.
2) get a loop switcher(this is what i use).i use a road rage pro gear switcher which is built like a tank, and super compact.this allows you to divert your signal into whatever pedal you want .making your signal only have to go through pedals you are using. these can have built in buffers as well that make very pure in sound quality to what you would have just going straight through an amp.although you still have to do the dance to swtich pedals, everything is in front now making it EZ
3) get a programmable looper. this takes loop switchers to a whole new level. it allows you to set up "scenes" where when you hit a single switch, you get multiple pedals turned on at once. this is super useful, if you are having to turn on and off multiple pedals at once. some high quality programmable loopers are made by musicom lab, and gig rig.... check em out.... the only problem with these is cost, space, and ease of use. all of these are pretty big dilemas for musicians
in short, tone is subjective, however your needs as a musician are your needs, i got my loop switcher because it was compact, relatively inexpensive and in an effort to limit my spending it put a cap on what i could have on my board. I personally play gigs where i have to turn on a trem, pog, delay, reverb, AT THE SAME TIME, and its pretty hard even with a NON programmable loop switcher. there is a draw to the gig rig, but its freaking HUGE! any other questions?
i LOVE the bunrunner... its VER kewl... VERY versitile.... it can go from vintage classic sounds, to modern heavy sounds... even to 8 bit sounds... you can even use it almost like a synth by using delay and reverb while doing volume swelling.
Great demo...You mentioned on the PGS Jetter Tritium page that you own one. Was hoping it would feature on your pedal board. Can you tell me more about the Tritium and mostly why don't you use it ? Also, if you still own it, is it possible to make a demo of it ? I know it's asking too much but that would be super awesome...Thanks so much man....Cheers !!!
ill see what i can do about a video... however you can check my tutorial on petty by As cites burn...that is all i use on that video drive wise.... its set for low gain...however here is a ridiculous amount of gain to be had from that pedal.
i still use the tritium but on my secondary board...the reason i dont use it on my main board is because i mainly use my amp's natural overdrive and i decided to stick with 2 drives and a boost on my board...
@trguitarlesson Hey..Thanks man..I'll look forward to your vid :) Saw the 'Petty' vid..the pedal sounds great on low gain and you are a very good singer too..superb stuff man...Cheers !!!
That is phenomenal... would you mind if I shared this video on my blog? I have been doing a series on worship tones, and this is perfect for what I have been doing.

less wear and tear on the first and last pedals, and it is just more clean looking
