@BlackSoulsAion That's what I always say, MMA and UFC is all about sports, martial arts like Karate (in my case goju-ryu) was developed for war. There is no comparison, a master in goju-ryu will kill any UFC champions, because that's what they were trained to do, not to play games in a ring with a referee.
Ever heard of the Gracie family? There are MANY videos of them engaging in NO-RULES bouts with high-level practitioners of martial arts that were 'developed for war' - various forms of Karate, Kung Fu, Hapkido etc. The Gracies won every time. What's your take on this then, Mr. Samurai Wannabe?

And by the way I know Kumite rules, but half of his Opponents were way below his league, in this kind of fights they should face people within their range :(
i love karate. i love the asian ppl and their culture. they have soo much to bring to the table wen it comes down to becoming a better person, being healthy, and alot more.
@Feraydun lol tell me ur joking, the video is 7 mins not the kumite!! this guy is a kyokushin fighter hardest form and also only a few people have done 100 man kumite completed it.
Knees and elbows, even head butts are in the Karate curriculum but they were banned from point karate! What Machida is bringing to the table is Karate back to its roots in its original true form How he fights is nothing like Mauy Thai, if your not convinced, go to thailand and watch some thai boxing, its completely different, both styles however share the same techniques.
without any doubt this man deserves respect. Kancho Matsui went through this faster than anyone else. He is still holding the time record. And for those who are arguing that kyokushin is no practical on the street. well let me tell you something. kyokushin is more pratical than most of the martial arts. it's like muay thai they both get punched and kicked so many times that they get use to the pain . downfall of kyokushin no punches to the head, muay thai gloves..
I'm pretty sure I've seen Muay Thai bare knuckle before here somewhere on youtube, unlless i'm wrong, and back when Sosai was teaching someone said there were still headshots.
Aye? Most Kyokushin dojo's I've seen allow punches to the head (although usually only with headgear nowadays), and a lot of old ones allow bare-fist punching to the head. Maybe it's just the other guy's dojo.
But I agree. Kancho Matsui.... stuff 100 man kumite. Guy must be obliterated at the end of it.
A quick afternoon on google has revealed that you are correct, but not every Kyokushin organisation made the rule change. Kyokushin-kan, for example, did not, and quite a few dojos around (around here, anyway) do allow punches to the head, but not bareknuckle ones. I'm sure some still allow bareknuckle head punches as well, though.
I believe the chairman of the organization of Kyokushin that I'm under is making moves to try and reintroduce head punches to tournaments and kumite. I read about it somewhere, I'm not sure where, but his name came up as one of the advocates for it.
Shokei Matsui is a Zainichi Korean just like the founder of Kyokushinkai Matsutatsu Oyama. His Korean name is Moon Jang Gyu. There was a lot of controversy when he was chosen by Oyama as his successor. He was a good candidate but I think he was chosen because Oyama wanted to keep the control of Kyokushinkai in the hands of the Koreans.
never mind the politics, concentrate on the art, and train hard, japanese, korean, chinese, okinawan, indian, indonesian, etc. there all human beings, martial arts is a universal term, practiced by people with two arms and two legs, so just leave out the shit about what you think might have happened, matsui is a great karateka and thats not due to him being korean its just hard work and discipline.
Plz keep in mind your talking bout BJJ right now, for the original jiu jitsu is created not as a sport but a way for samurai to defend themselves both standing and on the ground.
Most of his opponents were ab out 65kgs and blue belts who put on black belts to look good for the video. Compared to da Costa or Filho this 100 Manis shameful.
I was there on the day. I was training at Honbu in Japan at the time. I am not saying Matsui is not a technique genius but this 100 man kumite was not realistic.
as to the video, it seems some of the guys he fought were little kids, saw a couple of blue belts, but many of them were blacks, and regardless, it takes impressive stamina and strength of will to go through 100 opponents.
Shokei Matsui is the bomb!! he is hardcore. Any one who trains in Kyokushinkai would understand that. And rodneyghee, you will never understand the concept about kyokushin, or matter a fact, you will never understand karate.
kyukoshinkai there isnt an age barrior the kids train just as hard as the adults in street fights you kick ass with this sport its just as good as any other sport mui thi etc (however u spell it)
i can say one problem with karate it has been adulterated...see what they do in japan and see what they do in others countries...kids getting black belts yet they cannot compete vigorously, even to the point they gave a belt to a chipanzee this is bullcrap, hence when we hear about karate we laugh coz anyone can get it from the so called McDojo.Giving the students the false sense of security yet they remain untested...hence when faced with tis they end up being beaten or worse dead.
People laugh when they here the word Kara-te cause they are Ignorant ! Real kara-te Comes from Japan?Real Kara-te is taught by Masters not children! Brazilian Jujitsue , come from Japan! Sombo comes from Japan? To many people study Kara-te at these Mcdojo's! There are Kara-te schools that teacher real Kara-te! But most Lazzy Americans wouldn't know that because they watch to much U.F.C!!!
I think all of you give too much importance to a black belt... Obtaining a black belt means nothing more than obtaining the right to become a beginner in the school you have chosen... And that is why I don't see any problem with giving black belts to kids... It never meant that you were good... And if you judge somone just by the color of its blet you are in for a big surprise at some point...
doesnt the person that obtains a black belt have to prove himself in some way to get it?i thought that you hade to do advanced moves and combinations and stuff like that, and being really good at the martial art?pls correct me if im wrong
well from my point of view you are not wrong krullbulle59: the moves you are asked to perform for a shodan grading are indeed more complex than for the kyu grades (and tehrefore more "advanced"), but they are not the essence of any martial art... If anything, I would say they are just the very begining ;)
depending on what school your at, it should be demanding physically and mentally, there are schools out there that have high expectations, on the other hand there are those that just give out the belts, maybe this is why muay thai and mma is getting more popular.
Muay Thai is getting popular because there has never been an elite Kyokushin guy in the UFC. For a style to get popular, you need an elite practitioner to show it's superiority in the MMA cage. Until that happens, people will go with the consensus style. Humans are weak, they only go with other people are using that seemingly "works." Another big thing is the UFC banning the Gi. Now, nobody can readily identify Karate because you have to go shirtless in the UFC.
GSP only did Karate for 7 years and then quit. And his only teacher for Karate was his Dad. GSP also never won any Kyokushin tournaments. That's not really my definition of an elite practitioner.
Karate needs a guy like Dimitrov, Tsukamoto, or Donatas to learn some Jiu-Jitsu defense and then go into MMA and start tearing up the competition.
GSP is more of a muay thai fighter now. He abandoned Karate a LONG LONG time ago. He only wears the Gi because it looks cool
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you watch Lyoto's fights, you'll see that he uses 90 percent Muay Thai in his standup game and 10 percent Karate. That's hardly a Karate practitioner
Are you crazy?! His main style is Karate. Thats how he started getting his name around. Because he was going undefeated with a style that no one else uses. He may use Muay Thai in the ring when they get close, but thats MMA, he has many Karate championships and decorations in Brazil. He uses Karate the most, and more than anyone else in the UFC.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Lyoto uses mostly knees and thai plums. That's not Shotokan. Also, the spinning kicks in Shotokan are very useful, but Lyoto is too scared/wimpy to use them. That's why when you watch him, it's very hard to tell that he's a Karate fighter, because his style in the cage is mostly boring, ugly Muay Thai style.
It's a shame that the only traditional martial artists left in MMA are Cung Le, Lukasz Jurkowski, and Andrews Nakahara.
You're the only living in a dream world because you're calling a Wushu/Sanshou champion and pioneer not a real martial artist. That is insane. Who cares if he does movies? A guy can't have a hobby on the side?? Also, Cung is fighting on December 19th for STrikeforce.
dude cung has a taekwando blackbelt ane hes awesome in sanshou that make him a martial artsts in anyones world.bruce lee also acted so he wasnt a martial arist?
1.Clinch knees are in original Shotokan Karate, TKD, and are originally found in ancient Kung Fu styles that bleed into Bokator which bleed into Maui Boran which combined with western boxing to make Maui Thai=Thai boxing.
2. Lyoto uses a linear stance which is in Shotokan and TKD. He has used switch kick combos, mawashi geri(roundhouse) followed by straight punches to down Rashad for example.
3. He used a shotokan karate takedown with ridge hand against Soukujou.
well, having a black belt is SUPPOSED to mean something, but nowadays you can see some little 10 year old walking around with a black belt he practically got by the hard work of his parent's checkbook.. some black belts are bad jokes, others are anything but funny.
a black belt at a good solid school means something, giving a black belt to a kid is stupid, there is no set standard however, which makes it dificult to judge someone by there belt,
you're right, you can't judge an opponent by the color of their belt.
But achieving the rank of Shodan black belt is a huge achievement. Maybe not so much in America, since there are so many unlegitimate "martial arts" dojos that hand out belts like candy. But in Japan, it takes well over a decade to earn your black belt, and thats alot of hard work and training. It took me 11 1/2 years to earn my black belt in Judo.
Giving black belts to kids disrespects those who have earned it.
there are some schools in America that are still true. In my school, it doesn't necessarily take over a decade to earn your black belt, but you only test when our master says you are ready. And our tests are just ridiculous hard. Our master even said his tests are ridiculous and that he tests us harder than he was tested.
I do boxing..and i magine what this guy goes through..please remember there are no rounds here and he's not resting just fighting fresh fighters...well done.
kyokushin is really helpful imagine being attacked by 5 guys yet you soarred with 100 guys..is in't it better.Like bruce lee once said "any style that will help you defend yourself in a real fight is worth practising".
in kyokushin. you cant punch to the face an this is one of the things that gives kyokushinkai people a false sense of security. they also banned all aspects of grappling from kyokushin tournaments an u got the nerve to talk shyt about taekwondo and tai chi? id like you to take a trip to Korea an visit a real taekwondo dojang or military people who do taekwondo an spar them an see what happens to you
"u got the nerve to talk shyt about taekwondo and tai chi?"
For sure. And even tho I practice kyokushin myself, I 'm not blind to its shortcomings, either. Kyokushin is very focused on competition and it seems that self defense takes a back seat to that. I wouldn't recommend kyokushin or any other form of karate as a system for self defense.
"take a trip to Korea"
If there in Korea exists TKD practioners that can beat me, that still doesn't mean TKD is an effective system.
Ive been saying that for years. Ive done tkd but it had soooo many shortcomings as a system. especially for me since im a heavyweight and tkd is all about speed.
dude the guys aint attacking lol thats wut i can see they not even fast enough xD one of 'em dropped without even get touched lol ah nvm -,- its still fake lol
its not fake maybe you don't know anything about martial arts... kyokushin training is kinda hard you have to fight more than 20 black belters just to be one of them... and in martial arts when you fight you wait you don't just attack thats why they don't try that mush to hit him...
u don't just wait, u wait for the appropriate moment to strike and secondly the opponent is not obliged to always wait to attack. the point is that the first one to attack need to do so very quickly in order for the attack to be effective!
AHAAHAHA these guys are nervous as shit put a yakuza in there then I'd be 2X as good if these guys realize he's good but human I'd make for a much better fight not that this kumite sucks the other fighters are just scared pissin themselves before they even are hit.
Exactly Marv, all these online throwdowns are a bit futile and ultimately a bit embarrasing, this is real life not 'Fists of Fury' this sort of foolishness diminishes us all .
bud, im 15 im not gunna fight you, and i can fight, but im still learning. your just a dick that thinks hes the king of all things. i swear, when im older and ready, ide take up that offer. but for now, im gunna be the bigger man and end this right now. the greatest fighter is one that can win a fight without throwing a single fist.
seriously, get a life, my sensai is a better fighter and a better man then you'll ever be, hes a doctor as well as a 4th degree black belt. your stupidity amazes me, like what kind of idiot goes around challenging peoples teachers. really, how self conscious do you have to be to need to prove yourself to everybody. have a good life, your blocked.
Love ur comment, ur sensei is very qualified and hes a black belt, so is my dad, black belt 1st dan, and he got his MBA degree in the 17 best university in the world, Imperial college of science technology and Medicine. Matsui told my dad's sensei Peter han that he doesnt want gangsters 2 do Kyokushin, he wants qualified ppl cause it shows they r disciplined, and what they hav achieved through hardwork.
Martial arts were meant people alive... Enough of this bullshit.
Showing fights and moves carelessly is just a complete waste. I'd never take my knowledge of tae kwon-do and frivelously toss it like that in a YouTube comment board.

without any doubt this man deserves respect. Kancho Matsui went through this faster than anyone else. He is still holding the time record. And for those who are arguing that kyokushin is no practical on the street. well let me tell you something. kyokushin is more pratical than most of the martial arts. it's like muay thai they both get punched and kicked so many times that they get use to the pain . downfall of kyokushin no punches to the head, muay thai gloves..
cdsbob 2 years ago
true, but in kyokushin we dont punch the head cuz we dun need to resort to that and its just too easy n deadly
lawker777 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure I've seen Muay Thai bare knuckle before here somewhere on youtube, unlless i'm wrong, and back when Sosai was teaching someone said there were still headshots.
EntryStackEnthusiast 2 years ago
Guy must be obliterated at the end of it.
htornis 2 years ago
kyokushin never allow punches to the head since Oyama banned it in the 60's. So i dun know which dojo u saw
sonofphiladelphia 2 years ago
A quick afternoon on google has revealed that you are correct, but not every Kyokushin organisation made the rule change. Kyokushin-kan, for example, did not, and quite a few dojos around (around here, anyway) do allow punches to the head, but not bareknuckle ones. I'm sure some still allow bareknuckle head punches as well, though.
So yeah.
htornis 2 years ago
I believe the chairman of the organization of Kyokushin that I'm under is making moves to try and reintroduce head punches to tournaments and kumite. I read about it somewhere, I'm not sure where, but his name came up as one of the advocates for it.
Jinkiro 2 years ago
He may have banned it for kumite, but punches to the head is a common technique in all karate.

Shokei Matsui is a Zainichi Korean just like the founder of Kyokushinkai Matsutatsu Oyama. His Korean name is Moon Jang Gyu. There was a lot of controversy when he was chosen by Oyama as his successor. He was a good candidate but I think he was chosen because Oyama wanted to keep the control of Kyokushinkai in the hands of the Koreans.

i can say one problem with karate it has been adulterated...see what they do in japan and see what they do in others countries...kids getting black belts yet they cannot compete vigorously, even to the point they gave a belt to a chipanzee this is bullcrap, hence when we hear about karate we laugh coz anyone can get it from the so called McDojo.Giving the students the false sense of security yet they remain untested...hence when faced with tis they end up being beaten or worse dead.
rodneyghee 3 years ago
Point well taken about the chimpanzee thing ,but black belts also prove the hard work and all the time students have spent in training.

People laugh when they here the word Kara-te cause they are Ignorant ! Real kara-te Comes from Japan?Real Kara-te is taught by Masters not children! Brazilian Jujitsue , come from Japan! But most Lazzy Americans wouldn't know that because they watch to much U.F.C!!!

Karate was born in Okinawa. Japan gave birth to Kendo, Sumo, Jujuitsu, Ninjuitsu, Aikido, etc.
amsablan 3 years ago
I think all of you give too much importance to a black belt... Obtaining a black belt means nothing more than obtaining the right to become a beginner in the school you have chosen... And that is why I don't see any problem with giving black belts to kids... It never meant that you were good... And if you judge somone just by the color of its blet you are in for a big surprise at some point...
jazzyslip 2 years ago
doesnt the person that obtains a black belt have to prove himself in some way to get it?i thought that you hade to do advanced moves and combinations and stuff like that, and being really good at the martial art?pls correct me if im wrong
krullbulle59 2 years ago
well from my point of view you are not wrong krullbulle59: the moves you are asked to perform for a shodan grading are indeed more complex than for the kyu grades (and tehrefore more "advanced"), but they are not the essence of any martial art... If anything, I would say they are just the very begining ;)
jazzyslip 2 years ago
ahh i agree with you my friend:)
krullbulle59 2 years ago
depending on what school your at, it should be demanding physically and mentally, there are schools out there that have high expectations, on the other hand there are those that just give out the belts, maybe this is why muay thai and mma is getting more popular.
singhakabuttar 2 years ago
Muay Thai is getting popular because there has never been an elite Kyokushin guy in the UFC. For a style to get popular, you need an elite practitioner to show it's superiority in the MMA cage. Until that happens, people will go with the consensus style. Humans are weak, they only go with other people are using that seemingly "works." Another big thing is the UFC banning the Gi. Now, nobody can readily identify Karate because you have to go shirtless in the UFC.
gyromancy2 2 years ago
what about gsp
xmaxjacky123 2 years ago
GSP only did Karate for 7 years and then quit. And his only teacher for Karate was his Dad. GSP also never won any Kyokushin tournaments. That's not really my definition of an elite practitioner.
Karate needs a guy like Dimitrov, Tsukamoto, or Donatas to learn some Jiu-Jitsu defense and then go into MMA and start tearing up the competition.
GSP is more of a muay thai fighter now. He abandoned Karate a LONG LONG time ago. He only wears the Gi because it looks cool
gyromancy2 2 years ago
his dad was not his karate teacher and i am positive that ppl in k1 uses kyokshuin karate

If you watch Lyoto's fights, you'll see that he uses 90 percent Muay Thai in his standup game and 10 percent Karate. That's hardly a Karate practitioner
gyromancy2 2 years ago
Are you crazy?! His main style is Karate. Thats how he started getting his name around. Because he was going undefeated with a style that no one else uses. He may use Muay Thai in the ring when they get close, but thats MMA, he has many Karate championships and decorations in Brazil. He uses Karate the most, and more than anyone else in the UFC.
QUntouchable 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Lyoto uses mostly knees and thai plums.
--
gyromancy2 2 years ago
Well now this conversation is dead to me. Cung Le is more of an actor than a "real martial artist", so I'm going to let you live in your dream world.
QUntouchable 2 years ago
You're the only living in a dream world because you're calling a Wushu/Sanshou champion and pioneer not a real martial artist. That is insane. Who cares if he does movies? A guy can't have a hobby on the side?? Also, Cung is fighting on December 19th for STrikeforce.

dude cung has a taekwando blackbelt ane hes awesome in sanshou that make him a martial artsts in anyones world.bruce lee also acted so he wasnt a martial arist?
haris000000 2 years ago
OK IDIOT.
4.etc...baka
wiggalama 2 years ago
well, having a black belt is SUPPOSED to mean something, but nowadays you can see some little 10 year old walking around with a black belt he practically got by the hard work of his parent's checkbook.. some black belts are bad jokes, others are anything but funny.
uzernam302 2 years ago
i agree 100% i tell everyone that but no one believess me they think if someone is a black belt they have to be good
twokon 2 years ago
a black belt at a good solid school means something, giving a black belt to a kid is stupid, there is no set standard however, which makes it dificult to judge someone by there belt,
singhakabuttar 2 years ago
@jazzyslip
you're right, you can't judge an opponent by the color of their belt.
BrettNASTYY 1 year ago
@BrettNASTYY
there are some schools in America that are still true. In my school, it doesn't necessarily take over a decade to earn your black belt, but you only test when our master says you are ready. And our tests are just ridiculous hard. Our master even said his tests are ridiculous and that he tests us harder than he was tested.

rodneyghee 3 years ago
in kyokushin. you cant punch to the face an this is one of the things that gives kyokushinkai people a false sense of security. they also banned all aspects of grappling from kyokushin tournaments an u got the nerve to talk shyt about taekwondo and tai chi? id like you to take a trip to Korea an visit a real taekwondo dojang or military people who do taekwondo an spar them an see what happens to you
kickfighter666 3 years ago
"u got the nerve to talk shyt about taekwondo and tai chi?"
For sure. And even tho I practice kyokushin myself, I 'm not blind to its shortcomings, either. Kyokushin is very focused on competition and it seems that self defense takes a back seat to that. I wouldn't recommend kyokushin or any other form of karate as a system for self defense.
"take a trip to Korea"
If there in Korea exists TKD practioners that can beat me, that still doesn't mean TKD is an effective system.
