I played this is high school with our local youth orchestra with the Kalamazoo Symphony. It was so cool to have the organist and pianist play with us! This will always remain one of my favorite pieces!!
I first heard this live in Kleinhan's Music Hall in Buffalo, NY. When the organist hit that first note, I swear, people in the first row were blown out of their seats.
saint-saens 3rd symphony is arguably one of the 3 greatest french symphonies of the 19th century(the others being berlioz symphonie fantastique and franck symphony in d minor)...he achieved, in this work, power, pathos, intense drama, fabulous melody and profundity....merci. maitre saint-saens pour une vari chef d'oeuvre!
@moltoallegro19 I want to know what recoding that is. I love the Ormandy one, and the Von Karajan, and I think there's one with the Boston Symphony. I'm looking for the best one!
5 Stars....Wonderful! This is music....ein Meisterwerk der Klassik...Fantastisch!
@moltoallegro19 - Auf Deutsch - anyone can type into a translator, but the feelings are the same in every language -- no maybe better in German: The language of love (if you're singing, it's Italian and if you're Camille - well, he was in touch with the cosmos)!
Oops - Google thinks I'm spamming, so I'll shut up. :D
@javajo46 Plug the sub-woofer in and turn the Volume up!!
I agree 100% .
I have a good sound system on my PC. Recently I went out to the mail box with the volume turned up as much as I dared risk the speakers. It sounded as though we had a cathedral in our street
Thank you thank you, for putting this music to Michel Angelo's sistine chapel (i think), its grand thanks I have seen it with my own eyes in the Vatican City and it was amazing
@baiba6 Sorry for my late response, but yeah, they go very well together, don't they? But this fresco (Scuola di Atene) is actually in the Apostolic Palace :)
@moltoallegro19 oh! woops my memory is rusty now as it was so long ago that I was in Italy. Anyway a very fitting illustration for a great masterpiece of music!
@baiba4 - It stands out as one of the highlights of my young life. About 12 years ago, I performed this with the Spokane Youth Symphony in the Spokane cathedral with a rocking organ :-)
HappyWandy457 This is such a superb composition, that any kind of interpreters
will gain approval from public. In this case - I think - the tempi are rather too quick, so that the main theme cannot flow as subtle it would by letting both
pianos (I believe so) could bring violins in heaven . . . Also the coda comes
as it might be to long for the conductor: Control is necessary here!
Saint Saens maybe lived too long. By 1921 his music was mostly forgotten (old fashioned romantic).

I know so many people whose life it changed completely. It rivals videogames!
Who's playing? Who's conducting? Only Camille wrote for a piano and an organ in an orchestra. This guy was illuminated!

I have listened to a dozen performances of this great masterpiece, and you have
provided a fairly good audio recording of this on YouTube. Some don't even hear
the distortion of high levels.. But you have done well. Many thanks.
