  • it's great but did they skip the clarinet solo? or is it just me because that is (or would be) the best part.

  • benny would give his ok

  • this is jazz :D

  • Butch Miles - The greatest post WWII big band drummer, best one I heard from the late 1970s to today. Great version of this song! Somewhere Benny, even Gene are smiling.

  • very tasteful. love it.

  • Absoluteluy wonderful. a first class personel and a magnificent drummer, Benny you have nothing to worry about whilst these guys are around, a magnificient tribute.

  • SO GOOD.

  • Apart from Benny . the greatest version I have ever heard, I need more info on this great band, feeling a bit pissed, time for bed. goodnight.

  • wow

  • very good band! And Butch of course!!

  • Butch is a exllent percussionest that does not get a lot of mention when all the big names are tossed around but can hold his own with any of the top names Rich,Bellson ,morello (r-i-p ) Joe Ect Ect he is very fulid around the kit and makes it look effortless.

  • I found this video by luck...and being a drummer myself, I was intrigued in the beginning by the tone of Butch's drums...full, fat and deep...unlike most big band - jazz drummers. So, that got my attention and then as the song progressed, I became more and more impressed with his skills. He gets creative and keeps things interesting for everyone concerned...including himself. You can tell, he loves what he is doing~and he does it as good as any Ive heard. LOVED IT~~!!!

  • Gotta love the grin at 8:18

  • I didn't know Fred Couples could play golf AND trumpet! lol

  • Im a reed player holding many accolades and i am blown away by what u have done with one of the greatest charts of all time. Drummer... if u were a girl i'd marry u just because of ur brilliance. Trombones held the bass and the trumpet solo... just wow... wonderful job.

  • they play real good

  • As much as I like Butch's version ... Kruppa's is better, cause he did it first

  • super impressed with drummer, tenor, and trumpet players, but i hated the clarinet solo, this is coming from a person who plays all 4 of them, and clarinet primarily, but I just didn't really like it, it was kind of lame

  • Anyone know where i can get the sheet music to the trumpet solo? I'd LOVE to learn it

  • Probably the best version of this song that i've ever heard. Butch is incredible as always, one of the greatest drummers of all time.

  • Love Butch Miles - great player and a cool guy! I'm a fan for life!

  • I prefer the version with John Williams conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra.

  • can anyone tell me what instruments are used all of em i mean not saxophone not clarinet not trombone something else

  • Arnold schwarzenegger playing saxophone :D

  • why did they skip the first two clarinet solos i luv that clarinet part

  • BUTCH HAS KRUPA BEAT SO FAR HERE IT'S NOT FUNNY,HOW SMOOTH HE GETS OVER THE DRUMS LUDWIGS SOUND GOOD TOO!

  • BUTCH HAS KRUPA BEAT SO FAR HERE IT'S NOT FUNNY,HOW SMOOTH HE GETS OVER THE DRUMS

  • BUTCH HAS KRUPA BEAT SO FAR HERE IT'S NOT FUNNY

  • Good, very good, great!

  • Can you imagine doing this for a living !!!? Wow

  • thats one awsome drummer

  • Butch is one of the best , I got to see him play at Wooster Oh. this year .

Talk to him a shot time , his a very friendly and love to talk about drums.

I think he's as good or better then Rich was.

  • Fantastic version, nice to see some light and shade in drumming. Some modern 'metal' drummers would do well to study this guy!

  • what's the name of the band.... cannot be Butch Miles band.... Butch Miles plays with the band. He is not just makeing a lot of noise like lotsof other drummers....

  • So far I have seen numerous vids of sing sing sing. Not one drummer gets into it

like Gene. they are so bland, and mechanical.

  • Butch is a marvelous drummer and one of the nicest cats you ever want to meet. I emceed a couple of concerts with him in the band. As a drummer, i truly appreciated his playing. We had some good times hanging out.

  • 搖擺少女我百看不膩。

  • Excellent!!!

  • Excellent interplay between Butch and Randy Sandke! AWESOME!

  • @maynardwaltrip

Hi old sport... nice you caan hear it... ;o)

  • Thanks to Walt Levinsky for preserving Benny Goodmans music with aa all star band. Walt is a great clarinetist in his own right. He once recorded an Artie Shaw 1938 recreation album where he played all the Artie Shaw clarinet parts.

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!

  • Butch Miles is a GREAT Drummer and I was saddened to read here that Buddy Rich maligned him. And I don't regard Butch as a "Buddy Clone" either.

  • as enjoyable as any of buddy rich's bands.MAYBE MORE SO.i love this totally original drummer, freaking great.and all are smiling.the way music it is meant to be played

  • waouuu le batteur est un geni

  • no wonder buddy was always making fun of him, he was worried someone could play at his level

  • he did a clinic at my high school this year and i got to play WITH him.... it was intimidating..... but awesome...

  • I can tell you right now he gives amazing lessons too (Butch I mean) - doesn't step on your sound, doesn't try to make you start from farther back and play HIS way... He's a very accepting, intelligent performer and instructor.

  • What a tenor solo !

  • The dummer is... amazing

  • Buddy is the King. All hail Prince Butch! Great stuff. No wonder he was a thorn in Buddy's side for years.

  • @nirvanjbd compare his solo to other "good" drummers who just randomly bang on the drums in a "really fast" way, notice how he controls his tempo by keeping his high hats as a metronome. that just clearly goes to show that he's still on time.

  • I'm sorry to say that nirvanbd has no clue. Of COURSE since he is 25 and loves death metal, he would be an expert. This is Butch Miles playing, NOT Gene Krupa. This is also 70 years since Krupa recorded the original. What Butch Miles is doing here, Krupa could not do. That's not to take anything away from Krupa as he WAS the father of modern drum set playing. Everyone is individual in their playing.

  • ... and that's what's most important in jazz improvisation - mimicking exactly what was played over the same tune fifty years ago...

  • I'm an avid percussionist and sax player and I have to say this is one of the best videos I've ever seen. As always hats off to Butch. Always tasteful, never overpowering, but can kick like a mule and show off with the best of em' when appropriate.

  • wow...ive had the privilege of playing this chart with butch, on several occasions...he knocks it out of the water every time!

  • Butch Miles is the best!!!

  • Classy. Put up the whole song. I'd love to see it.

  • Brilliant!

  • I cannot ask for more...all these great musicians and Butch, my favourite drummer, all united in one band!!

  • very much appreciated.. thanks for finding this one.

  • Butch, you're so tasteful (one drummer to another).
