Song still gives me the shivers like it did in 1972. Very few artists had Al Green's talent in putting their raw emotion in a song..Long live Al Green...
When I first heard Al Green I was 14 years old and immediately fell in love. Some 40+ years later nothing has changed. Will I still be listening to him when I'm 80 do you think?
This great 70's masterpiece gave birth to a 1996 rap masterpiece entitled 260 by Ghostface Killah...God bless Rev. Al a true pioneer of all music not just soul
O.K. Everyone on the floor for it's dance contest time (ha ha) I remember my long-time friend, Marsha, and I dancing to his music. Of course, she was one of the best dancers in the D.C. area, but I was not too bad myself. The brass was so prominent in the bands in the 60's.
This cat is so groovy that he is taking down to the river. I am getting a burst of energy at almost 11:00 p.m. at nite.
Let me know if anybody knows an existing band that play really soulful music like Al Green. Only this REAL music makes me feel free to dance. Everything else is robotic, automated, pre-designed steps... blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!
I can remember seeing Al in concert back in the 70's when there would be multiple acts in concert. He would hand out roses to the women. Even as kid I knew that it was cool thing to do!
ok..i dont care if im in the minority (used to that muscially lol) but think this song easily TRUMPs Lets Stay 2Gether, just based on the sexyness factor alone lol!
@clmacon you can't take the singing away from him he just had a much better band and better arrangers back then I'm a musician myself and I was speaking purely from a musical stand point al is still the man
@clmacon you're right the politicians play a big part in it also with (class warfare) tactics to win elections but isn't it great that music has no color at all al green recorded a lot of gospel music in the 80s and it sounds real good too but I don't care too much for his new r&b songs I liked his 70s music better
@clmacon A whole lot of things drugs, crack mainly: one thing is naturally black people envy otha blacks when they see u in the same community with more than what they got so we gone fight each otha steal from each otha just to get what they got its just a cycle of struggle generally with us black race generally in this country we just have to love one anotha no what in unite! Ya feelme
"@QUANB804 naturally black people envy otha blacks when they see u in the same community with more than what they got so we gone fight each otha steal from each otha just to get what they got..."
Blacks don't "naturally" do anything. If you are a jealous thief, then speak for yourself, not the whole black race.
I know what most of you are talking about this is my favorite song too i was born in 1978 my dad had a Al Green Greatest Hits tape back in 1988 that's how i got hooked onto this song like another guy said on here it doesn't matter when what year you were born just as still you got great taste in music................
If you really want to go reaching for the Kleenex, type in Jesus is Waiting by this man and you can feel the tears of gratefulness flow from your eyes. @LeeAnn20008 you'll love it. Also try "Simply Beautiful" by him as well. Classic!!
we used to hear all of al,s music growing up in the early 70,s in my house .I always loved this song, and of course those great hammond organ swells,Peace.
The song, the singing, the cool assed chord changes, the horns and the guitar as the ending phrase repeats, a classic Willie Mitchell arrangement and Teenie Hodges is just sooo killer on point with the guitar parts!!!! One of thee top Al Green tunes. Al Green don't get much better...well, u know, he does but , well... this song is da bomb as they used to say.
@luvchoclabs what? you cant even compare them...there doin 2 different things mainsteam rap is GARABAGE anyway real hip hop has alot soul in it and alot al green sample its all pieces of the same pie dood
Wow, this is the best music for a stroll down memory lane...how about the sound of all the instruments, the organ especially...with this voice.....thanks for posting.

Every time I hear this, my heart melts. It's a shame I had to be born in '92 because all the best music is the old music and it's harder to find. Glad it was made though.
@clmacon I feel ya I had a white friend name Barry in high school back in the 70s and we use to trade albums and I still listen to a lot of classic rock today
@weluvmusick definitely a good one too...those three just speak to me personally. They make me wanna thank the man personally for them! They make me feel incredible to finally truly know exactly what he is talking about...i'm not just singing along anymore...
Right on! What are so called artists getting away with these days!
