Superb. There's some real fear factor in seeing an armoured knight charging toward you. I'm sure even in medieval times the armour gave far more than just protection.

Loving the medieval styled saddle of Capwell. He looks a lot sturdier in his saddle than modern ones

@StormchaserKnight Are those saddles designed to not allow the rider to fall off the horse?  If so, is this a safety measure or authentic from the times?

@thekswervedirt Only one of the saddles is authentic; the guy wearing black armour on the white horse. The saddle has a high pommel and cantle to keep the rider in the saddle when he charges with a lance.

@thekswervedirt --The saddle Toby's using is based on medieval designs, but it's the rider that keeps himself on the horse, not the saddle. There are types of medieval saddles that help retain the rider, but this style's not one of those.

The fine people at Historic Enterprises are right. For the first time in centuries there will be a joust at Hampton Court Palace Bank Holiday August 29th-31st 2009. Real solid lances with steel tips and the best armour in the world! well certainly the best saddle:-)

I'm informed there will NOT be a joust at the Tower this August, but there are rumblings about something at Hampton Court the bank holiday weekend.

Is this a proper tournament? I didn't realise that competition jousting happened in the uk! I thought it was only in allowed in canada. How do I get into jousting? I really, really, really want to do it!

NO WAY!! We are all professional plate armour jousters and the event was put on by Historic Royal Palaces and produced by Griffin Historical. Most of the jousters compete regularly at the Royal Armouries Leeds, others are from the group Destrier. I suggest reading the caption for the video.
