  • good point

  • Vote movie bob for President

  • @lotro4ever4000 Hold on there, let Ron Paul have a go first. ;)

  • i like to use the republican term "leftist" to discribe people who go beyond individual rights and centre-left politics and advocate a form of socialism; those are the democrats that advocate censorship of games.

  • @Personmr I agree.

We don't need to have any of the Chinese Governments issues happening in the US, anyway.

  • haha, we saved.... the mall ! haha that was awesome

  • Hey, Bob? This (and all your other old videos, apparently) is gone from Screw Attack.

Also, how long does the whole thing at Screw Attack last? Any chance of bringing TGO over to The Escapist with Escape to the Movies and The Big Picture?

  • It just makes me smile watching this and thinking about the Supreme Court ruling.

    WE DID IT.

  • i think Wertham gets the short side of the stick. He does fairly get blamed for Seduction of the Innocent, but he later regretted the harm it had caused. he felt it went too far. His main concern, unlike everyone elses, was actually always the children.

He also was one of the earliest campaigners for civil rights; his work was cited in the Brown vs The Board of Education trial, and is considered seminal in the verdict. Lawful Good if there ever was one.

  • lol... When I played Madworld, I didn't feel the need to massacre people with a chainsaw, that's just god damn common sense.

  • Best Game Over Thinker ever! I wish Bob would do his videos like he use to with out the whole story line stuff.Though I can understand that it is what he wants to do if he must I really hope he makes it a secondary priority! But still thanks for the videos Bob!

  • Speed up voice reminds me of Foamy the Squirrel xD

  • its true my mom constantly blames me that video games are bad but then i ask what games are bad and whats bad about them?

and she just go sillent. she have no awnser. Bob is right

    Vote for Bob

  • was that the intro to contra 3 at 7:38 or so? Looks super familiar...definitely something from the snes

  • Wow, that was actually pretty inspiring. Well done Bob

  • IM WITH YOU MAN

  • he says we need more casual gamers so none gamers who are with games that are violent see the good side in games such as being with families, getting healthy. But that's a bad a lie as the whole video game violence thing then|!

  • @kingbooforums how is it a lie when games such as Wii Sports/Carnival games clearly have less violence in then than 20 minutes of any football game? Yes it is a small portion of all the games there are out there and no it does not define every game in the market, but its the diversity of games that he's trying to point out.

  • Oh, violent video games do make me violent. the point is if I care or not

  • Eariler today at my school a cop came in, and while talking about the effects of bullying brought up columbine, After which she said that it was games like Doom that "prepared" Harris and Klebold. I found it hard to take anything she said seriously after that.

  • Am I the only one getting MASSIVE goosebumps at 10:00 onward?

    UNITE!!!!!

  • God Bless the Guys that dedicate thier lives to Videogames!!!

  • beautifully said.. *sniff*

  • Amen reverend overthinker! (j/k)

  • LOL @ The Rock

  • Miyamoto=God.

    1 thumb short of 666.

  • thumb up if you want that bowser shirt.

    great job bob as usual.

  • Well said. As per usual. This series is great!

  • Think about this ppl. eventually we will get older and some of us gamers (hopefully the smart ones) will be able to get to power and be able to speack for us and make things better. But before that we must behave and not to give them assholes more "ammo" against us. So Xbox live, grow up! And whach the gameoverthinker!

  • fuck that man is right, i have stoped what ever bad words online that i used, hope u all do to. we dont lisen to them, how dont even can prenounce the name of the games there judgeing

  • just link to this video.

    send it to your congressman.

    this is GOOD.

  • dam i just finished a paper on this same thing i wish i watched this sooner

well its basically everything i said and alittle more but wat people dont think about is if some of this bill pass can u picture all the recall that will cast the companies millions and people would loses there jobs but isnt that wat are goverment is agianest job lose

  • dam i just finished a paper on this same thing i wish i watched this sooner

  • watching them all. best video yet

  • I really like your style and for being the voice of us gamers sticking it to the douche bags who hate violent video games and also who wouldn’t know the first thing about video games you got my sub for sure. Great work.

  • moviebob im suprised you didnt pull a karl marx, i mean the ending was powerful for sure, but i was expecting a sort of "the proletarians (gamers) have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Gamers of all countries, UNITE!" :) regardless great episode, long time fan, big up the academic side of gaming :D

  • I WANT THAT BOWSER SHIRT!!

  • Thank God for Jon Stewart!

  • MADD

    Mothers Against Drunk Driving

    DDAMM

    Drunk Drivers Against Mad Mothers

  • You know, in issues like this, I'm so happy our Congress is so incompetent so they can't pass anything. Also, that when they do pass something, it doesn't do do shit.

  • I agree with many thing Bob has said, but he was slightly contradictory. He said there are no facts that link violent games and real life violence, but then tells us to use the facts, when we use our "facts" we become "believers". Don;t confuse this with disagreeing, but I was just pointing it out.

  • @zephyr2096 I think he's talking about people who believe without thinking their half of the argument all the way. We can believe, but that doesn't necessarily put us in the believer category as long as we still make factual choices and think about it in it's entirety first. (not trying to start an argument. just a thought)

  • @dragonwarrior321 Yea, I actually thought of that after I posed the comment, and I didn't feel like correcting myself, but at the least people should think about defending the medium instead of defending it because that's what the Game Overthinker or whoever else told them to. That was the main point of my comment.

  • Never drink a drive, you might spill your beer

  • oh good god that end part there was hilarious to me. i agree totally but it seems a bit too dramatic.

also i've noticed that lawyer " objection " picture in a lot of gamer videos, but can never tell where it's from. what is it?

  • @wlrugby Phoenix Wright. Very famous Japanese 'anime' lawer game.

And the drama is necessary. This could destroy games as we know and love them all because of old farts in Congress who don't have any idea what's going on. Drama is how you get people off their butts and doing something.

  • BECOUSE KNOWLEGE IS POWER!

  • @nintendozonezzzz and knowing is half the battle

    G.I. JOOOOOOOE!!!

  • Bravo, man. This actually inspired me to write a paper about video game violence for English class.

  • Nice speech at the end there

  • I was literally in tears at the end of this video. You are a ray of hope for me, thank you.

  • @SpecterVonBaren Believer

  • ;W; Th-that… can I hug you?

  • Too bad i cant find the whole video on screwattack annymore. Because i really love this video!

  • holy crap man that is the most insperational speech i have ever heard I tip my hat to you

  • Thumbs up for Wonder woman bondage. : D

  • Jack Thompson, Joe Lieberman, Hillary Clinton, and 14 members of MADD watched this video

  • Why this should even be a problem is beyond me. There's no way any subject matter is going to corrupt them to the point of school shootings or domestic abuse if they're raised right. If the voice of the parents is the central voice of authority in their kid's lives, nothing on TV or the internet would alter that. Video game developers should be taken with the same credence as filmakers. They're artist of one sort or another, not goddamn interlopers threatening your child's sanity.

  • Who was the character and what was the cartoon at 2:59? I have a figure of that character and have never known who that was.

  • Best pep talk ever!

  • I don't really beleive the same thing that happened to comics can happen to video games. Why? Well, comics have always been, and still are,a largely geeky medium, exclusive to us---err,them(stealin' jokes from the overthinker ftw!),whilst games have gotten to the point at which gaming is for everyone-from douchebags,to old people. We just got lost somewhere in the middle. And you know what? You're right about Wii bashing. I personally don't a Wii,but i beleive that it can get us out of this mess!

  • Everyone should watch your videos.

  • I just saw the Penn & Teller episode about video games. They tested the "anyone who plays violent video games is a serial-killer waiting to happen" hypothesis. They let a kid fire an actual gun, after shooting the gun, he was asked to fire some more, but turned it down. He also started crying minutes later. This should prove that the video games are not the problem here, the mental health of each person is. And the mental health of a person can most often be traced back to the PARENT!

  • @YWC08uploader thank you

  • bob, you are a genius! All this time we have had to defend ourself's because we didn't have any other strategy, a one trick dog so to speak. ( i think that"s the med-afore at least). I wouldn't be surprised if your one of the people who historians remember as the Saviour of our great pastime. in short you just taught a one trick dog a new trick!

  • The Overthinker, Master Chief, Solid Snake, CJ Johnson and Niko want YOU...

    To fight censorship!

  • I sense a small cult starting... *blinks* not sure what that really means, though it poped into my head.

  • wow u sure reference 2pac a lot... I LIKE IT

  • I had to write a persuasive essay on why video games are harmful to people, and it KILLED me on the inside to have to do that to my hobby. Everything was $#!+; no real facts, no statstics that made sense, and bull claims

  • This video has inspired me for a year or so now. It's a damn good video.

  • Clap..........clap...........clap.......clap......clap....clap...clap...clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclap.

  • This video instilled in me a deep sense of pride that I can no longer ignore.

I'm too damned tired of the abuse, and I'm too damned sick of the idiots; the naysayers; the soccer moms; Glen fucking Beck.

I'm sick and tired of being pushed around and made out to be an ignorant child.

The time for action has come. Gone are the days of apathy in which I've so blissfully dwelt.

You have inspired me. You have convinced me. This is the last straw.

    I'm registering as a Socialist.

    DERP.

  • Parents why was the rating system invented just to say we have it ?

  • Gaines looks exactly like rms

  • Funny story: Youth pastors that I've met, (3, to be exact,) use HALO to hang out with high school kids. How many times have you heard of a violent act by a youth group kid that was close to his pastor?

  • You sound EXACTLY like soapy the squirrel around 3:40. Seriously, exact same voice, exact same tone, exact same demeanor.

  • I find it both funny and sad that people will make Jack Thompson characters in Oblivion and Mortal Kombat to use as punching bag-voodoo dolls. It only gives Jack more ammo, so to speak, against us.

  • Such a brilliant rant. Subscribed.

  • This was one of the most powerful videos I have ever seen. Not just on Youtube, and not just on the Internet. I mean ever. You are absolutely correct, and thanks to our giant network, we can easily defend our wonderful hobby, and, eventually, they WILL lose.

  • I don't generally like violent video games if they're just all about the violence. I do like some violent video games, such as No More Heroes and House of the Dead Overkill, but not just because of their violence. I also find these games to be absolutely hilarious and clever. I love the creative and weird boss designs and the retro references of No More Heroes, and I love the 1970s exploitation movie theme of House of the Dead Overkill.

  • The video game industry is never going to get shut down. It's just too big.

I mean, we have the technology to make cars that don't create carbon emissions, but that would be a heavy impact on the oil industry, which has a huge grip on our economy.

  • I made a title card for this video.

  • THANK YOU FOR THE BANDICOOT REFERENCE. That Franchise deserves RESPECT.

  • Comment removed

  • WE BLEW UP HITLER'S HEAD

  • Grand Theft Auto 4 sucked in my opinion, but whatever. Yeah, actions are applied through human thought, not through video games and art.

  • So if we're going to treat this thing like a war, you know, us as the freedom fighters and them as the oppressive overlords, then can I break out the guns and strap bombs to the houses of our political enemies?

I mean, it's revolution man! We can't let them destroy our industry! IT'S TIME TO FIGHT FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE IN!!!

Or maybe I'm overreacting a bit and that makes me look bad?

  • @joebthegreat you are absolutly right we need to make a stand and fight for what we belive in and dont let the idiots take it away from us

  • So, what the Game overthinker means by 'fighting smart' is to start discussing the moral value of Video games to all the douches?

  • Nope, because honestly, talk to any troll on the internet about anything logical and see what response you get. Honestly, that is what all these anti-video game people are doing. They aren't really bringing up anything important. What they are doing is trolling. We really shouldn't give them the time. Do you know why Jack Thompson lasted so long? Because of us. Trolls feed off of negative emotions, but irony is really their finest cuisine.

  • I'd prefer the crowbar to an alien's face, Gordon Freeman meaning, but that's just me. :)

  • @supermatx That'd be part of it, anyway. The basic idea is that, if you're able to present yourself as an intelligent, balanced person who is able to put forward a point in a polite and logical manner, you can help represent the gaming culture so much better in the face of society as a whole

In short, strive to be the polar opposite of a typical XBox Live gamer.

  • Is there any proof that connects violent games and actual violence?

    Well n-

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THERE'S ANY PROOF

  • wher is the uncut versin the link isnt workin

  • This video is just plain brilliant. I have disagreed with a number of your topics in the past but this is completely true. I've posted this on a Facebook group called "Gamer's Voice" set up by a UK MP (MP is like a British congressman) is response to the over zealous anti-game propaganda and it's growing.

  • Sound the Horn of Gaming!

Prepare to fight a war with FACTS that blow the foundation of weak Clinton, Lieberman, and Thompson arguments.

Accept the Casual Gamers as our allies, like the French were with the Colonists during the American Revolution.

    NUMQUAM NON PARATUS!

  • Yeah, I hate Joseph Lieberman. He caucuses with the Democrats and even has a big chairmanship on a Senate DHS committee because of them. In other words, he's pretty powerful. However, he's a traitor to those he caucuses with, threatening to filibuster health care reform legislation. Essentially, he's a right-winger. Why Democrats don't kick him out, I will never know. Oh yes, and he voted for the Communications Decency Act of 1996, which, if it was passed, would censor the internet.

  • @CrazyCheeseMagee

What does Joseph Lieberman's supposed "evil right winger" status have to do with gaming?

  • I wonder what Jack Thompson is up to now. We haven't really heard from him since he got disbarred. I'm surprised he hasn't been up in arms about No More Heroes and Madworld, the latter actually gaining a lot of controversy, for instance, not being released in Germany and also upsetting the National Institute on Media and the Family. I assume a lot of it has to do with Nintendo's traditionally family-friendly image.

  • I think this has been deleted from ScrewAttack.

  • @lolubentrold I've noticed that too. Why would that be?

  • To paraphrase a famous saying all All that is necessary for the triumph of idiot believers need is for smart thinkers to do nothing. We have to fight them other wise you have McCarthyism part 2.

  • now we know. and knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE!

  • @zeong542 A real American Hero, G.I. JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEE!!!

    Couldn't resist :P

  • this is more or less true, but the last half resembled propaganda a little bit. just saying.

  • should have mentioned silent hill 2 and indie game devs

  • i learned alot

  • The problem with the anti-gaming side of the argument is that they see correlation as causation. Someone should ask these people, what do they think is worse? Realist violence (where you see all the blood and gore) or unrealistic violence (where you shoot someone in the face 12 times and they just fall over with no blood or sign of pain)?

  • GORDON FREEMAN=FIGHTING SMART.

  • doctor mario any one?

  • In GTA4, when you drunk drive, the cops will come after you and it's impossible to drive straight. If anything, it's a message to NOT drink and drive!

  • @Lunarvx22 or else you lose your guns and have to put the cheats back in

  • @Lunarvx22 But as bob said, it doesn't have to senda ny message to not do this and that because the game designed with all the weapons and killing, rockstar knew what they were doing.

  • Logic "is" the best weapon.

  • i used this video as a reference in my anthro essay about censorship. thank you game overthinker

  • What exactly can we do about this, however? Send this video to our friends and families and possibly email or call our representatives about the details concerning this debate and what's going on today?

  • no, never start any type of discussion or debate. Wait for the ''anti-gamers'' to attack, then you can defend your side by letting them know how wrong they are about everything.

  • You know during this kind of reminds me of the the Mohammed cartoon controversy a while back ago. Some people in the middle east decided to throw Molotov cocktails at Danish embassies to protest that the portrayal of Muslims as being violent.

  • They probably had a point. In fact few people would say otherwise. Cartoon for the most part was really really bad as in unfunny aside from being outright racist. But the moment Molotov cocktails started flinging around like a cricket infestation, they lost their key advantage. They were trying to prove that Muslims are in fact not any more violent than any other religion.

  • South Park did an episode about it, as I recall, a two-parter actually. It was a message-heavy episode, but I think it was great.

As they said, it's not enough to just believe in free speech, it needs to be defended in the worst of times as well as the best of times, or we allow the opposition to believe we can and will shy from our beliefs at the first sign of controversy. Either we can say anything, or we should say nothing. There can be no compromise when freedom is at stake.

  • @JJMDude What was the episode about, exactly?

  • @LuckySharm Family Guy trying to show Muhammad in one of their non-sequitur scenes and getting censored. It was South Park criticizing what had happened to their show in an episode where something similar happened after that Danish cartoonist riled up Al Queida. The argument in the episode was that it was wrong and un-American to censor, especially under threats of violence, because doing so ALLOWS terrorism to work. And if we don't defend free speech, we're forfeiting our human rights.

  • @ToAruShiroiNeko 6:35 I don't mean to pick nits or anything, but a little over a century ago we were in the 1800's not 1950's! MUCH respect Bob!

  • Actually In my oppinion answer is yes/

  • god yes finally some one gets it! finally!!!!

  • A perfect example of how to fight back by being smart is the fox news debate on Mass Effect. The way Gieoff Keighly responds to the accusations was amazing. Also, this guys right about fanboys. We should be supporting each other as gamers as a whole.

  • yes, we should

  • bioshock is a steam punk version of system shock 2

  • and you cribbed that from Yahtzee. Don't play off other people's work and pass it off as yours own. That's called plagiarism douchebag.

  • this video is great!

  • I would love to send this video to my congres smen or senators

  • @coolgeek35 Whats stopping you?

  • it's only me, but I'm getting annyed on how he keeps on mentioning BioShock and obectivism it's like that's his answer for everything

  • @coolgeek35 well if u have played bioshock, which u probably have, u already know it is the sweetest game ever! :) thats y it is the answer to everything. Q.what would u like to play A. bioshock Q, what is the best game A Bioshock Q,what is the capital of sweeden A, BIOSHCOK!..........o wait soz

  • @coolgeek35 If you answered 2+2 with 4 would you get annoyed. If its such a problem then give him another example to use.

  • Overthinker, you are awesome! Because of what you said, you made me even proud to be a gamer than I ever was. I agree that we should separate ourselves from those who cuss at Xbox Live and show them politcians what we really are.

  • you look like fucking john goodman in tbl

  • Bob, Overthinker, whatever you wish to be called. Where have you been all my life? I guess it really does take us old gamers to be able to see and think of things this way, but more so to try and galvanize those after us.

I hadn't seen you until maybe a few weeks ago for the first time, but that "subscribe" button couldn't have been hit any faster. I studied censorship in school and couldn't have been more horrified at how it keeps repeating on everything. Race, sexuality and media.

  • 9:53

you TOTALLY interrupted your live action self! That was very rude, Moviebob, you should apologize to LiveActionBob. He finally makes an appearance in your videos and you treat him like a non-right wing pundit on Fox News! That is bad form sir!

  • 6:36

a little over HALF century ago you nib

    lol jay kay jay kay

  • I think it's interesting that you compared Jackshit and friends to seduction of the innocent.

  • Nice vid!!

  • Anybody know what game the screenshot at 4:35 is taken from?

  • that's pheonix wright MUTHAFUCKAH

  • Amen to that, movie Bob

  • Could you (or anyone) please tell me where you got the information in regards to the facts that you stated. I would like it to help in a paper I'm writing that mentions violence in video games.

  • what an eloquent argument! well said

  • I never fought dr. kortex? :(

  • you never play crash bandicoot?

  • Not in its prime.

  • Wow he actually made a halo reference usually he just insults it

  • You know what's weird? You mentioned "violent" games like Grand Theft Auto, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, and No More Heroes, but what about Manhunt, which not only depicts gruesome acts of violence, but shows exactly how to do so to get the best results. I mean, the Wii version even have you use the Wii Remote as a a knife and use it in a stabbing motion. How do I fight against that?

  • 'd say screw em. Yes there are inexcusably gratuitous games, but THAT is their entire point. They exist to rile up controversies and we don't owe them any favors for it, but to say video games are somehow the ONE genre where this is unsound you are placing it above a pedestal higher than any religious text.

  • Ahh, okay.

  • IF you're going to punish Manhunt for it you have to do so to Sin City and James Bond. Heck why not start at the source? Disband the military as its the prime candidate for the glorification of violence and has certainly trained more killers than video games. By their logic everyone who grew up in the 90s is already a ferocious psychopath so what do we need them for anyway?

  • well there's always one or two exceptions to the rule, like that game designed to recreate the Kennedy assassination. But we must remember that games like Manhunt are the exception and not the rule. Also, it's controversy and it really is Rockstar's bread and butter at the end of the day

  • What game was that?

  • Granted the WAY JFK: Reloaded was done was in extremely bad taste but the game could have worked if instead of playing the gunman you the role of one of the witnesses or better yet the role of an investigator limited to 1963 technology with a random element to deal with the Grassy Knoll and other ideas.

  • AHH! A painting of Mona Lisa! It's so violent!!!

  • I already know who my senators and reps are:

    Senators:

    Mitch McConnell (R-Ky)

    Jim Bunning (R-Ky)

    Representative:

    John Yarmuth (D-3)

  • Woohoo, thanks for listening to us, Mister Bob, and posting your new videos on YouTube. As always, fantastic and hilarious video. However, you should look up the "Bobo the Clown experiment", since you said that no study has come CLOSE. I do agree with you for the most part, but you made a fairly outrageous claim, and you should probably look it up if you haven't seen it already.

I'm kind of sad, actually. It's the first time I've ever disagreed with you, even a little bit. :<

  • Wanted to be clear, I completely agree that the gamers are right and the non gamers are wrong, I'm only taking issue with your word choice. XD

  • the last few lines inspired me "WE BLEW UP

    HITLER"S HEAD!!!!!

  • funny, I actually stumbled upon this revelation a couple of years ago, but never was able to articulate it as well as this.

  • Sorry meant to say censorship not governorship.

  • This is a bad day indeed for the USA. Videogames do not cause violence. However videogames do cause frustration on some levels and this could be used as basis by some people for violence. Oddly far off but a lawyer can do amazing things with it.

To be honest, this whole governorship is more political than psychological. Some political guy would want to use videogames as his selling point for the next election for I see.

  • i now believe in moviebob

  • ever thought about trying to be a speaker on one of these news show?

I know they are very bised but in the usa you guys have spike t.v right? I do think that will be the best stepping stone, as its a "dude" channel but its the nearest thing you guys have.

  • cos its aways been kids who play videogames throughout history who cause most violence....

  • maggot432

I feel that it more of "kids" upbringing who are violent you speak of history but its only a resent thing, videogame players from the bit era are more the target of violence rather then the one who its about.

Gamers who game for long peridos of time every day are likey to be the outcasts and I find the more sporty ones who start on the slope of fighting, robbery and bullying.

Gun crime has been around since guns.

Knife has been around since knifes.

its about the person not the meida

  • I was being sarcastic

  • this is the best video i have ever seen

  • Video games should be judged on the same level as movies, TV shows, and music. They are a scapegoat for causing children to be violent. Video games are not the cause of violent children. That is caused by bad parenting

  • not always bad parenting, some people are just born crazy, thats nature vs nurter

  • You've lost weight. Looking good dude. Looking forward to episode 26.

  • I have watched all of your vids(minus the 2 or 3 the age restriction is up on), and I HONESTLY agree with all of your opinions(except for Fat Buu being the best in DBZ. XD(Bardock=epic)). And I ALSO agree that we all should do what we can. If things heat up even more, I might just be tempted to send them emails. Seriously.

    You sir, are an inspiration.

  • Thank God, the one on ScrewAttack had messed up audio!
