Are you aware that when Santa Anna became a dictator - many mexican regions rebelled. He crushed them all - including the Alamo in 1836. Sam Houston crushed Santa Anna at San Jacinto a month later. Texas was a free nation - but mexico kept fucking with Texas - invading San Antonio at one point. Texans allowed annexation - and mexico crossed the Rio Grande - which was Texas - which was the USA. If any other region beat S Anna - then that region would have been independent also.
To get to the root of this you need to go further back to about the time of the napoleonic wars. Spain went bankrupt and lost control of Mexico. the US then incited revolution within Mexico (read Blood Stained Altars) for the next 100 years the revolution continued sporadically in Mexico. Yes, there are plenty of ways to learn English but having a native speaker teach correct pronunciation and usage is very helpful. Teaching English to immigrants can also be very rewarding for the teacher.

The rebellion in Texas began in 1835 - after Santa Anna revoked the 1824 Constitution. Texas rebelled along with other regions. A war was fought - Texas won it. Did the USA take advantage of it? But we paid Mexico $15 million. Then guess what? Mexico sold us more land afterwards - the Gadsden Purchase. They sold it to the USA. Looks to me like mexico wanted money more than land. Are you aware that when Santa Anna became a dictator - many mexican regions rebelled. He crushed them all - including the Alamo in 1836. Sam Houston crushed Santa Anna at San Jacinto a month later. Texas was a free nation - but mexico kept fucking with Texas - invading San Antonio at one point. Texans allowed annexation - and mexico crossed the Rio Grande - which was Texas - which was the USA. If any other region beat S Anna - then that region would have been independent also.

Spain went bankrupt and lost control of Mexico. the US then incited revolution within Mexico (read Blood Stained Altars) for the next 100 years the revolution continued sporadically in Mexico. We took advantage of their weakness to expand our territory. That only made things worse, of course, but what do we care as long as we win, right?

I don't see why he made such a drama out of nothing. He could simply have politely informed the Mexican responsible that the flags should be the other way around according to the law and that by doing it the way he was, was a major social faux pas. He could even have swopped them around rather than vandalising the rope with his knife and stealing the US flag.
