hello there im 16 (fairly good mechanic) and iv got a 90 defender J reg that woould benifit a chassis this winter to save time patching forever, any1 got any tip or advice? thanks
It's far quicker to lift the body in one piece, roll out the old chassis, swap the components over to the new chassis and then drop the body on.Using this method we could change a chassis in just under three days.
@MuddyZuk After watching it again and noting the times they take 29 hours to complete the job, though there are six possibly more of them. When I was having to do chassis swaps it was just myself and the odd bit of assistance when doing the big lifts, though as I have said before my method is different to theirs as I lifted the bodies in one piece and didn't break the vehicle down so much.
could've done with you guys a couple of weeks back. a lad at work had his 90 wrote off. kept telling him it's easy to do a chassis swap which is what it needed. now he's looking at a ford p/up. lol.
I USED to have a wiorkshop like yours,a little smaller but not much, alas no more,BOOO HOOOO!! I used to rechassis landrovers as part of my living! They always came along in three's though! We used to lift the reartub/bulkhead/wings/front end all in one ,undo the outrigger bolts, cables and wires, lift, when clear by a couple of feet, roll the chassis out from underneath. Then it was a matter of swapping chassis comp over, plus engine +tranny then roll it under the lifted body and drop it on,easier
Great Job, wish i had a workshop like yours and i would change the chassis on my series 3, can't even get the car in my garage that only the landy. Nice to see the dog working hard :o)
Excellent! Thats what I love about landrovers, they are like giant mechano kits! Me and my mate recently done somthing similar to my old series 2, it took us a bit longer though! Keep the vids coming!
Wow! good work :-)

@silver760 erm three days you say? how does that improve on the two in the title?
MuddyZuk 4 months ago
@MuddyZuk Because a working day is 8 hours making the swap take 24 hours tops.
silver760 4 months ago
@silver760 maybe you read it different to i but i dont see this as having taken 48man hours merely two days in the workshop? i could be wrong though
