No one has any Idea how amazing these cars are. My friends are jealous because i get better gas mileage and i still leave them at the stop light. And it's a four door but its still bad ass
i had one.. below 30 degree it would not start. shifter held together with rubber bands.. but i only paid $600 for it and it was only 5 years old but it was a piece of crap
The push button automatic trannies used in Mopar cars was used from 1956 to 1964. By any account they were a success, especially once Chrylser finally installed a park lever. Unlike other makes like Pachard (sp) they were actually mechanically, not electrically actuated making the operation very reliable.
Funny, kids sitting in the back sandwiched between the back of the last row of seats and the rear lift gate. "Get ready to eat lots of steel and glass Timmy when we get rear ended at a stop light".
My grandmother had a '60 or '61 Valiant station wagon, and my memory is that it had the first windshield wipers that I'd ever seen that both went the same direction at the same time...however, looking at these ads, I can see that the wipers were mounted the way all other cars were that that time, so that they moved opposite of each other.
@rustydog0329 I've owned 5 of these cars between 1988 and 2008. None of these cars were show cars by any means. I used them ALL as daily drivers over those 20 years in Michigan year-round. I MIGHT have washed them once a year. The ONLY one to rust was my '63 and reason for that was I let it sit outside it's entire life. I garaged the others. My point is that lower-end buyers bought these cars (in the day) and low-end buyers don't take care of their cars. These cars did not rust when garaged.
the 225 six was, in the 1970's, was unsed in about 1/2 of all NYC cabs. Great engine. But is was dumped because it could not meet EPA pollution standards.
My slant 6 , the radiator split, all the antifreeze drained out while i was driving. I had 15 miles to get home, and said screw it ,its still running ill try it. I made it home, put in a new radiator and never had a problem.
The one commercial says "rattle & Rust" resistant...Those Valiants are beautiful but I recall so many of them (growing up) succumbing to the rust monster. The slant 6 motor was an engine you just couldn't kill.
I would love to have one of those Station Wagons i bet they came with a slant 6 sweet engines and they were power houses for 6 cyclinders.I had a 63 didge dart with a small slant it was a 170 cubic inch but would burn rubber too..They made 3 slant6 sizes 170 198 and the big boy 225.
The wagon was good for sex. My GF's mom had one and we put the seats down for fxcking. She creamed all over the place and got in big trouble when mom sniffed out the car. Later she got knocked up in the school locker room.
I remember these ads . My Father bought a new 60 V100 wagon. One thing though---the Valiant in 1960 wasn't a Plymouth. It was a seperate make. It was sold by De Soto, Dodge, Imperial or Plymouth dealers. In 1961 Valiant became a Plymouth and Dodge dealers got the Lancer.
My dad had a 1961 Valiant wagon, stick shift model. This car had lot's of room in the back and was reliable. We took it up into the Mountains often, with no problems. This brings back memories.I will buy one if i can find a good one.
Man i would love to get this car. And i wonder how many people realize that this Valiant was used in the movie "My Favorite Martian" from 1999. . .

I had white one with a 3 on the floor with a sport shifter. A real fun car for the time. I remember it fondly.

The "Push Button Automatic" was an idea that never really worked.
The "Slant Six" engine was a design that really worked welll
Great to see these old commercials, they are like time capsules from another era!

Rust proof? LOL

Rust resistant? Maybe compared to a Brillo pad. These cars rusted faster than most other cars of the era.

funny...the front grill looks like a studebaker lark and the rear looks like a mercury comet (the slanted rear brake lights)
