Lovely that so many people have fond memories of this fine piece of music.
Mine go back to the Netherlands when on Saturday afternoon from 5 to 6 we all at home listened to the radio program "The Wigwam" this was in the early 50's.
This "Entrance of the Little Fauns" was the recognizing melody, played at the beginning and end of the program. So glad I found it.
I have this on 78 called Entrance of the Little Fauns, by the Boston promenade Orchestra. I've listened to it since i was a kid and it always reminds me of the far east but also of disney type music and Laurel and Hardy
I always used to think of arabian snake charmers and dancing ladies in hareems when i used to listen to this, though i have to admit i often skipped it in favour of a nice juanty fox trot!!I love your trolls and mountain castle though!
The Trolls are pretty dumb fellows and follow each other like sheep, just keeping on that long winding road and never stopping. They never reach the fairy tale castle on the Mountain as it is too far away.
Yes thats a good one. I tend to see a long line of Trolls shuffling along a long winding road to a magic castle high up on a mountain way out into the distance.
Versatile is the word. Those were the days when dance bands could play light classical, comedy and dance music with ease. Jack Payne is the supreme example.
The music is evocative of the mysterious east - almost music for meditation.

Is there a later version by a larger orchestra the sound doesn't do this justice

When I listen to this I see little woodland creatures dancing around ageless trees and the sun shining through the branches.
This is indeed haunting and I loved it.
