Well let's see, Switzerland, all the Scandinavian countries, the UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. There is no such thing a 'free market' in any civilised country, only in the Third World and of course crime, particularly the international drugs trade, the last bastion of lassez faire. Capitalism delivers only for the wealthy (remember 'trickle down'?). Capitalism is simply the investment of wealth for a return, it has nothing to do with anything else.
@colourmegone I've heard that same argument many times. Too bad the countries you're referring to (so-called third world capitalist) are governed as a dictatorship, and not as a representative democracy. Secondly, UK, Germany, Austrialia, New Zealand, and Canada are suffering a great deal of financial austerity and political upheaval because just below the surface, their economic structure is unsustainable and the people are starting to hate it.
@rshortmanofwasilla "their economic structure is unsustainable and the people are starting to hate it." You know nothing whatsoever about the feelings of the people in Switzerland, etc. I live in the UK and I can assure you that the people here don't hate the welfare state or the NHS. If Mr Brown wasn't such a disaster as a leader Labour would still be in power. The only people who feel as you describe are on the extreme right, e.g. BNP, UKIP, etc.

Looking back, it is clear that McCain would have given us that mushy middle and more of Clinton/Bush failed policies. Instead, Obama has given us EVEN MORE of what did not work in the first place.
Between Washington and Wall Street, the average American doesn't have a pray. The corruption is so blatant, it should be obvious to even the most diehard Obama supporter.
instead of wasting time watching STUPID videos like this - Why don't you go door to door for someone like Adam Kokesh or Ron Paul running in your local district!!
WAKE THE FUCK UP - and get involved in your government - maybe then we will get change you can SEE instead of just change you can believe in
It would appear that you have read several of my posts and know that my views are similar to Kokesh and Paul.
It is unfortunate that more true Americans like Kokesh and Paul are not running our government. Instead, we get crap like Bush, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Frank.
we ONLY get crap like that because people DON'T VOTE - we need to WAKE THE FUCK UP - NOW
The average US House rep gets elected by roughly 20% of the eligible potential voters in a given district - check us out - SPREAD THE WORD - there is someone like Adam running in LOTS of districts in the US -Find someone in your district or run yourself - WAKE UP - go door to door
no I dont blame them either but it is on the americans dime so I say stay out, sorry, It would be a wonderful thing to travel the world with no limits and no worry.... UTOPIA
Okay.... your loosing me again. lol ; enough of the alien talk unless you are speaking of illegals from Mexico milking our tax money without contributing back.
Yes countries do draw lines to divide them, yes patriotism can be Extremely dangerous but at the same time there are a multitude of differences among people according to customs, rituals, believes, superstition, and of course the difference that seems to segregate the majority of the planet, race, that cause these lines to be drawn more often the not.but mankind in its Majority is still ignorant with a strong propensity for Evil. so there is a long way for us to go as of yet.
look, you make some really strong points and I am inclined to agree with most of what you say.... but honestly the aliens from outer space stuff took the discussion to a whole notha level that I wasn't sure had anything to do with the debate of LOCAL politics. I stress LOCAL meaning Earth...lol
Yes... there has to be some level of restraint on that military and leadership, that is where democracy comes in and socialism fails. But ultimately government, once created in any format, grows and seizes more and more power and creates more and more laws and controls the lives of its citizens until one day you end up with what you tried to avoid. I socialist regime. I am listening to Pelosi now on the healthcare bill and I am truly sickened. that is exactly what the Nazi's did.
I got your reply and actually I agree with you. I prefer no government at all... that is not possible I am so far from being greedy that I rather live in a trailer on an Indian reservation. the reason that it is not possible is simple... other peoples greed for power. As long as that exist we are not safe from it and need leadership and military to survive. when that day is no longer needed I will be the first to jump in the Peace pie. but like the wolfs there are other packs that want our kill.
I beg to differ on the animal and authority issue. Many species form a hierarchy of leadership and sometimes fights to the death ensue to gain leadership positions. The most basic and obvious would be a wolf pack or lion pride.Formed leadership and cohesion improve survivability. But honestly, what form of government will work best?Well for starters and in an ideal society, one that everyone agrees on and is happy with. But that would be utopia and we all no that does not exists.
Europe is doing no better than the U.S. In fact in many ways they are doing much much worse. Socialism is one step away from communism. Both look good on paper but neither never work. The U.S. was the world leader and still is in many cases because of capitalism and individual freedom to pursue success.
Since it's natural in the attempt to survive to form laws and even bodies of authority in the animal kingdom, it was natural that we'd form a government. And yes, a stupid one was completely natural since several members of the human race are undeniable stupid. If you want to solve that problem, find an actual liberal and vote for him instead of the conservatives or moderates who keep popping up.
There isn't total freedom of the internet. Their might be people fighting for a right to privacy, but there is still plenty of illegal material like snuff films and kiddie porn that is illegal to possess.
Besides, you've got everything all wrong. Order and law is natural. The lawlessness and freedom you describe doesn't even apply to the weather. Animals that live in a pack, territories, migratory patterns, and more. Animals live by their own basic laws.
Ron Paul is also against public education, his party wants to completely abolish it. Same goes with taxes which would leave the Government completely bankrupt and the country owned by the businesses (Yeah, even morseo than now). In our economic state, hell in ANY economic state, Ron Paul is the worst choice on any ballot. Honestly even going back to Grant or Nixon would be better than Paul.
I like your views about politics.I will not tell you who I voted for,but Obama seems to put the kart before the horse with so many things.Obama lives in a dream world that is all he just wants to be famous. I don't see any real effort on his part. Wait until we are four years down the road people will think that George Bush was a great president.
France , Canada, and Germany are doing very well. They have programs like free health care / housing, and tax within +/- %5 of what we tax in the USA.
Regardless, an idea can NEVER be bad just because it's socialist.
I voted for Obama because he was in favor of things like stem cell research. He promised to get us out of the war, and he said that he would invest in domestic energy.
All mcain ever said was "Obama sucks"
Ron Paul > Hillary > Biden > Obama > Mcain > kussenich > everyone else.
A man died & went to Heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the pearly gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, 'Why are all those clocks here?'
St. Peter answered, 'Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock move..'
'Oh,' replied the man, 'very interesting... whose clock is that?'
..."And where are McCain / Palin's Lie-Clocks"?? The man asked St. Peter.
ST. PETER REPLIED:
Obama has first dibs on them. He'll start using them right after he gets elected, to provide enough electrical power to supply the entire USA, Canada & Mexico !!
I am sorry but they only reason why I wanted Obama to win was because of Plain. I really didn't like Obama or McCain, but at least Biden as something between his ears. Had McCain picked a different running mate I might have rather McCain to win over Obama because in someways I do really like McCain. I.E. is speech after the election was every good.
Norway is a functional social democracy. High living standards, low crime and unemployment etc. Natural resources (e.g oil, hydropower, aluminum) are not privatized and contribute to the national pension (petroleum) fund and so forth. Of course every forms of goverment have their flaws, no form is perfect in every way. I'm more than happy to discuss this, but unfortunately I don't want to respond in video. Bad accent and all that ;)
Agreed, free houses and healthcare minimum, oh hang on dare i even say a global restructuring and distribution of so called wealth to the benefit of everyone not just the 2% of the population that have 98% of it, that would be a good start, oh yeah and much less on socalled obsesively paranoid offensivly defensive offence globally. Much love!
Sea bass what kind of crack are you smoking, taxes and living expenses are ridiculous in Canada. Go to Calgary where I lived for 16 years, and tell me if you can afford a pack of cigarettes with the money they charge here because the taxes there are crazy.
are you kidding me, look, the medical comunitys in america dont want to help "cure" people. rather, they would like to make you sicker or even try to in a since kill people in the united states. dont take my word for it, go look it up! ill leave with two facts.
first, there has been over 100,000 deaths from penicillin alone.
and second, there is a cure for many forms of cancer, even brain cancer, its made from hemp oil, once more, GO LOOK IT UP!
If want to see how socialism failed come to Boston, Massachusetts drive in the great Tip ONeill tunnel. I hope the tunnel doesnt collapse around you hahahahaha. oh one more thing go look up the great Soviet Union or USSR. I heard they are doing real well hahaha!! you need to do a story on bostons big dig what joke
you silly boy your the only modern western country without universal health care and yeah we have our problems but none of them are fighting with insurance companys for say cancer care ooohhhh the big bad socialists no i dont think we are.. as far as caring for other peoples health we are all in it together and can do it for a lot less than insurance companys
Canada is socialist .....but we don't have 'social issues'. Americans like to see themselves as cowboys or 'Mavericks'. Its fun to pretend and make-believe, but the utter truth is as the population increases, currency deflates, and outsourced foreign industry, oppoutunities within the free market are dwindling by the day towards exhaustion. When this happens and the people are left in a desperate, lawless, and unforsaken land, you will be playing cowboys for real.... just like you always wanted.
Canada is social, not socialist. Taxes are actually less in Canada than in the US. They spend less on military and more on the people. It's just a different mind set and it works fine.
i can thin of a case where socialist ideals work. Israel has a semi-socialist government. All the agricultural products in Israel are owned by the government and they have government subsidized health care (plus a lot more). however they have a booming economy, reasonable taxes, and little crime. the only problem the country has is the conflict with surrounding nations, which has nothing to do with the socialist aspects of Israel's government.
I voted for "None of the Above" on my absentee ballot. To be frank, none of the candidates, not even the third party ones listed in Wikepedia, represented what I felt would be a good President.
OK, I am voting for Nader. Why? Nader has been fighting the Corporateocracy his whole political career. I blame the Corporateocracy for corrupting our government, and the election process. The Corporateocracy is made up of the Military Industrial Complex, Mainstream Media, Central Banks, and Energy Corporations. Do I have to say more. Google, "Money Masters" for part of the story!
Educated opinion? We're f*cked. Obama is about as experienced as Bush was, and we've seen all the good he's done. And McCain is insanely conservative and won't offer the relief that is more likely to save our worthless hides. So, yeah, ass or crotch?
Oh, and no, i can't say which person i'm voting for with a reason that ignores the other runner. So, i'll say it now: I'm voting Obama because he's the lesser of two evils. We know McCain will f*ck us, at least Obama is a shot in a million.
The reason our economy is in shambles right now is because of sub prime mortgages and credit default swaps. And not to blame one political party or the other, because both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush had a hand in this, but both of those are products of deregulation of the market.
Not that we need all the socialistic programs in the world, but we do need some regulations because as we've all seen, when some people make some bad choices, the entire country suffers.
Don't ya think that the trillions we spent in Iraq might have something to do with it? Since we elected democrats into majorities in the senate on house in 2006 with a clear edict of ending the war and they continued to fund and expanded that war might have something to do with that?
We don't need more regulations. When has telling someone how to do their job ever produced desire results? It is just going to impede small business. Tell me do you ever think critically about what you see on TV?
Yeah, I do think critically about what I see on tv. In fact, I find it's a good idea to read newspapers too since the television is kind of limited. Do you know what a sub prime mortgage or a credit default swap is? Well, when you figure that out, let me know how regulating those two things will impede small business.
You can't liken what the Military does to anything in civil society. Apples and Oranges. I mean unless of course you are okay with living under a military dictatorship?
Look the sub prime mortgage/credit crisis is only PART of the problem. Our foreign policy (military spending inclusive), our Social Security and Medicade are going to bankrupt this country. We are 10 Trillion in debt. Do you think that a few hundred billion is the cause of that? Really?
"A credit default swap (CDS) is a swap contract in which a buyer makes a series of payments to a seller and, in exchange, receives the right to a payoff if a credit instrument goes into default or on the occurrence of a specified credit event, for example bankruptcy or restructuring. The associated instrument does not need to be associated with the buyer or the seller of this contract."
They made bets that the subprime mortgages would fail (and those were in the trillions).
And no one is capable of paying off the credit default swaps. That's a huge reason the market is coming down, along with other forms of derivatives (although not all derivatives are "bad" derivatives).
And it won't let me post a link for some reason, but there's a good story about this by the AP. It's titled..
"Meltdown 101: What are credit default swaps?
By ELLEN SIMON " Dated Oct. 20, and it says that the number is somewhere around $62 trillion for credit default swaps. Yes, $62 trillion. Google "credit default swaps" under the "News" tab, and it should come up.
2. yes, well, if we aren't counting iraqi dead in your comparison to chicago, can we count unemployed, those who have no reliable access to electricity, water, fuel, education, medical care? can we ask iraqis and chicagoans if they're better off now than they were 6 years ago?
3. perhaps you were at ball practice during us government, but congress must pass laws to affect "change". republicans in senate (nec majority 60) consistently voted against "change" - or bush vetoed it.
ah, where to begin. haven't read all 100+ comments so may be repeating stuff already pointed out to you, but will put in my oar. since you're a bright boy, you'll be able to match my answers to your embarassing questions & comments:
1. canada, japan, austrailia, germany, france, switzerland, italy, belgium (just about any democracy you can shake a stick at, actually) - all allies.
Allen in this video you make reference to misleading comparison between the city of Chicago and Iraq because it compares the number of murders in Chicago to the number of US military troops killed in Iraq. A more honest comparison would be the number of civilian deaths in Iraq which would be well over 7000 during the past six months compared to 350 homocides in Chicago. Or compare the number of law enforcement officers killed in Chicago to the number of soldiers and law enforcers in Iraq.
Um I'm pretty sure you are wrong. Unless you mean US Soldier, when you say soldier. And the citizens of Iraq are actually human beings - so the point is that a human being is safer in Chicago than in Iraq during the past six months.
Channei, as a friend, I respect your candid feedback. With that said, I think the conversation is being parsed into a comparison based on semantics. US soldiers are not responsible for the overwhelming majority of civilian deaths, and the people know this. The civilian estimates fluctuate wildly depending on who does the reporting, and insurgents are by, and large, viewed as the cause, by the people.
Semantics?? First off, I have no idea why you think I inferred that the civilian causalities in Iraq were caused by US soldiers. The very reason talk of time table for withdrawal is premature is because of the number of civilian causalities remains outrageously high. That is why I think comparing civilian casualties by violence in Iraq can only be meaningfully compared in terms of civilian casualties of Crime in Chicago.
Gah... i dunno. You do make valid points... but you've already stated that you buy a lot of the trash the conservative media punks dish out. I haven't surfed your videos recently, so be honest, do you buy the garbage about the ACORN investigations or are you actually going to wonder about why these investigations always pop up around the same time during an election year? And always from the same party? I'm so sick of the media garbage from both sides i'm ready to stab something.
I do support the profuse pummeling, of most of their pundits, and "reporters." Keith Olbermann, and Bill O'Reilly would be at the top of my list. Stabbing....
Can't support that platform, at this juncture in time. >:)
I just love people who try the old canard of false equivalency. O'Reilly is generally full of shit because the opinions he spouts are poorly based in fact, and his facts are generally incorrect, probably a majority of the time.
Keith Olbermann, on the other hand, you probably dislike because you disagree with his positions. He states well-informed opinions because he takes the time to do that thing called "journalism" which involves fact-checking.
There is nothing remotely resembling a journalist, or a reporter, on "Count Down." He is an editorial entertainer, and your refusal to acknowledge this, demonstrates your bias. They are one, and the same, leaning in opposite directions. There is a reason he previously was employed by ESPN, and it wasn't his measured presentation of the facts. Take off the rose (or should I say blue) colored goggles, and do some research on an "abstract" concept, called; independent thought.
I love how you conveniently ignore the record of fact-checking, sorry, I was probably doing some independent thinking when you were still watching Bugs Bunny. O'Reilly makes my bullshit meter go into the red nearly every time I listen to him.
Olbermann on the other hand, seems to be willing to admit when he's mistaken, and when his facts are incorrect, something I have never seen from Bill O'Reilly. MSNBC has a more balanced record of presenting both sides.
And your hyperbole about my post reveals your bias. Use of phrases like remotely resembling and refusal to acknowledge demonstrate to me that you ignore facts you find to be inconvenient with your opinions, while embracing those that confirm them. That is, in no way, shape, nor form, independent thought. My opinions are influenced by the facts, and not what others try to pawn off on me as my shortcomings with their opinions.
The ass or the crotch?! Wow that's got to be the best comparison I have yet to heard. Well based on the last elections and fake promises, I just really stop listening to what they say. I'm now a independent and am going for Nader because...well since we all know what the republicans and democrats are about, why not try something new?
I would rather have a republican in office then a democrat. So I guess i'm voting for McCain. Just in hopes that he will die and his running mate takes over.
Well if we choose the ass were gonna be the toilet paper. If we pick the crotch were gonna be the tampon. Hmm. Metaphorically speaking I'm apt to be the tampon, but shit wait, cant the toilet paper serve both functions perpetrated by both the ass and the crotch while the tampon cant. It would be hard to whip you ass with a tampon for sure, so hell Im going have to pick the ass, because as toilet paper I will be multifunctional.
while i do not disagree with your disparging remarks regarding the success of socialism - I believe free market capitalism has had a less than stellar record. If we look for example at the Republican control of both houses and the White Houses during the roaring the 20s that had people buying on margins which brought on the great depression - I think a certain amount of regulation is in order.
In this current crisis - lack of regulatory structures was not the problem. The problem was both branches failed to do oversite. Yes, Bush administration was less than honest and didn't come clean until it was an all out crisis - Meanwhile, rather the congressional leadership was lax in its constitutional role -- new rules and regulation is not what is needed - what is needed is legislators who have integrity!
No, but really, I'm not really sure who to trus-, er, vote for. Like you said, both seem to speak well, but it doesn't seem likely either of their policies will ever truly be realized. Obama said in tonight's debate, which I assume you watched, that he'll help college kids like me pay off those oh so big and scary loans that I'll have to deal with when I graduate. Will that actually be true?
Lots if the ideal type socialism is state or collective ownership and operation of the means of production (MOP = economy) on behalf of the people compared to communism as a publicly owned and operated MOP and capitalism as a privately owned and operated MOP on behalf of a few rich guys ..
If not well shucks bubba, I just wasted 70 bucks on this here commerce textbook!!!
unfortunately our current political discourse is not who we are going to vote FOR,but moreso who we are voting AGAINST. because all we're presented with is TWO bowls of shit, with the only difference being the smell. its like, well i dont like this guy,but i REALLY dont like that guy,so i guess ill just have to compromise some of my values and vote for the lesser of TWO evils. its an unhealthy system.
It would be plain naive to believe what these two are being fully honest. Unfortunately, they are campaigning. If either of them were to be honest, they would be swept under the rug like Paul and Gravel. Understand, it's a campaign, and not quite like almost any other election in history. It's a different game these two are playing. I am, personally, sickened by non voters, so as a friend I hope that is not your consideration. One of them is going into the white house, no matter what.
Obama is a socialist pig and will destroy this country. McCain is not much better but at least we still have a fighting chances to get our country's rights back to Americans. Finally Obama has a lawsuit were a federal judge is ordering Obama to prove is citizenship but Obama is ignoring the order.
Well, Allen, I did agree for as while there, but...
"socialism a system that never has and never will work"
Where the hell did you get that info, lol!!
I live in one of the best functioning countries in the world, and I can say that socialism works. And it works well. Our parliament is divided between 3 partys; socialistsx2 and the labour party. (Red/Green parliament)
You can look at our finances, and see that EVEN tho we're all paying around 37-52% in tax, we have it so good. We have free health care, No ÷ on that to be honest.
Americans hold on to their taX money cuz you guys have to insurance your asses for absolutely everything.
We don't have to insurance much here. The things you have inside your home, your dogs, your stuff really. If something happens to them AFTER a certain amount of time (Between 1-4 years on electronics = FREE insurance by law)
you should maybe get some small insurance "just in case", but thats all(cars and boats you must have insurance on tho. All Pricy stuff)
You guys don't see that you would benefit all the way from
paying more taxes.
You keep paying those insurance companies instead, not realizing, their bleeding you for money. A LOT of your money.
(But now your money ain't worth much tho, and where the FUCK do you guys stand then if not united together (RED/GREEN!!) when your economics collapse?
I tell you where you stand on your own, watching your life go to waste because all your insurance companies went corrupt and fell to bankruptcy so your literally on your own, with out a dollar. Then what??
Wake up call; sosialicm works, and always has, but you guys look at it the wrong way. You got it twisted somehow (probably tough your corrupt medias -I guess)
I wish you luck, there is a fact that Obama is the lesser of two evils; if the republix win... We're all royally fucked.
cant argue with free healthcare, id rather pay extra tax knowing that i will be looked after than pay less and having to do without, like a lot of Americans
*If* I vote, it would probably be Barr at this point. Barr is selling federalism, limitations on state power, the free movement of goods and services, all which I like. On matters of war and peace Barr seems weak, but he certainly can't do worse than the other two. I don't like the ties with the CCC either, though having bad associations doesn't make Barr unique this time around either.
I am not going to vote!! Because I want nothing to do with our country going down the toilet/ our country going to hell in a handbasket. Therefore, I must not vote!
Just watched again, ahaha missed the Buffalo Bill impression first time around. Can ya do the junk tuck trick too? Am having a blank stare moment over the comment(s) from people saying they're voting for Barry 'cause he talks pretty. God help us.
Well, considering a vote from FIVE FOUR FIVE ONE carries the same weight as 25 of those without the magic numbers of FIVE FOUR FIVE ONE, consider the tally leaning toward the left shoe.
Now you know who I'm voting for. Obama. He's the lesser of two evils. Also, the supreme court is in play here and I'm not happy with the rights picks.
First of all, the most important vote: I prefer the shoe on the left; it has a great retro style. I think I wore a shoe that looked like that back in high school. As for that other vote, I am going to vote for Obama... not because I like him or because I think he's the most competent or that he's going to accomplish anything; simply because the Supreme Court has tilted a little too far to the right for my comfort, and I'd like to see another left-leaning justice or two on the bench.
I'm sitting here in Canada waiting for my citizenship test results to come back approved.
So i smile and grin upon you people mingling in your little political dreams and hopes. My friend said if people want true change, the political/economic/social system has to completely go down and new one replace it.
Now what we're doing is just throwing more money at an old problem, its like giving money to a person for his addiction needs [alcohol, weed, cocaine, you name it]. Thats not right.
Ill keep my thermos handy for the Pepsi! NOT! What gets me is all the money is already spent, and so much of it, we wont eveb have a ledger and balance for! I flickrd yer shoes
Do you know anyone from these countries? I do, and their "universal" healthcare, isn't very universal. Would you like to wait a week for a common prescription, or 6 months for a routine, non-elective, procedure? They also have astronomical taxes, to support their red tape laden, systems.
I live in Canada, and have lived in Belgium, another socialist country. Our general tax rate is higher by about 7%, but we also have universal healthcare, universal pension benefits, employment insurance, cheaper tuition, and better ratings in public school performance. Too much red tape can be a bad thing, but also a good thing, such as in our banking system, where our laws don't allow lenders to do what happened in the states. There is no mortgage crisis in Canada.
Both sucked, but at least McCain loves his country.

@rshortmanofwasilla "their economic structure is unsustainable and the people are starting to hate it." YOU DECIDE - The Constitution tell us to focus on our US House reps - NOT the President.
there are an average of 5 candidates for every US House seat - you can even run yourself
so YOU DECIDE - is it a race between an ASS and a CROTCH ?

look, you make some really strong points and I am inclined to agree with most of what you say.... but honestly the aliens from outer space stuff took the discussion to a whole notha level that I wasn't sure had anything to do with the debate of LOCAL politics. I stress LOCAL meaning Earth...lol

OKAY!?!?!?!... now your scaring the Sh*t out of me. Are you american?
ricksters11 2 years ago
Yes... there has to be some level of restraint on that military and leadership, that is where democracy comes in and socialism fails. But ultimately government, once created in any format, grows and seizes more and more power and creates more and more laws and controls the lives of its citizens until one day you end up with what you tried to avoid. I socialist regime. I am listening to Pelosi now on the healthcare bill and I am truly sickened. that is exactly what the Nazi's did.
ricksters11 2 years ago
I got your reply and actually I agree with you. I prefer no government at all... that is not possible I am so far from being greedy that I rather live in a trailer on an Indian reservation. the reason that it is not possible is simple... other peoples greed for power. As long as that exist we are not safe from it and need leadership and military to survive. when that day is no longer needed I will be the first to jump in the Peace pie. but like the wolfs there are other packs that want our kill.
ricksters11 2 years ago
I beg to differ on the animal and authority issue. Many species form a hierarchy of leadership and sometimes fights to the death ensue to gain leadership positions. The most basic and obvious would be a wolf pack or lion pride.Formed leadership and cohesion improve survivability. But honestly, what form of government will work best?Well for starters and in an ideal society, one that everyone agrees on and is happy with. But that would be utopia and we all no that does not exists.

JustA11en:
I'm from Norway and we outrank the US in every statistic measurable when it comes to living standards, literacy, poverty, crime ect ect ect
Yet we are probably "socialists" in the eyes of an American.
The first problem is that most Americans do not know what socialism is, in fact, many thinks its more or less the same as communism....
As long as "socialism" is combined with democracy, as it is in most of Europe, it will usually work much better what the US is doing.
TheSaltyAdmiral 2 years ago
Europe is doing no better than the U.S. In fact in many ways they are doing much much worse. Socialism is one step away from communism. Both look good on paper but neither never work. The U.S. was the world leader and still is in many cases because of capitalism and individual freedom to pursue success.

You are dead wrong, you could look up the numbers yourself if you wanted yo, they are not hard to find.
There is no possibly way to deny that you lag behind, AND that the nations above you on the list are all what you would call socialized nations.
However, none of them are! All of western EU is die hard capitalism, but we know UNCHECKED capitalism will never work as long as greed exist.

'Barrack's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

It's just a different mind set and it works fine.
seabass101dg 3 years ago 2
i can thin of a case where socialist ideals work.

Oh, and no, i can't say which person i'm voting for with a reason that ignores the other runner. So, i'll say it now: I'm voting Obama because he's the lesser of two evils. We know McCain will f*ck us, at least Obama is a shot in a million.
FrostbittenWolf 3 years ago
The reason our economy is in shambles right now is because of sub prime mortgages and credit default swaps. And not to blame one political party or the other, because both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush had a hand in this, but both of those are products of deregulation of the market.
Not that we need all the socialistic programs in the world, but we do need some regulations because as we've all seen, when some people make some bad choices, the entire country suffers.
chibruins8 3 years ago
Don't ya think that the trillions we spent in Iraq might have something to do with it? Since we elected democrats into majorities in the senate on house in 2006 with a clear edict of ending the war and they continued to fund and expanded that war might have something to do with that?
We don't need more regulations. When has telling someone how to do their job ever produced desire results? It is just going to impede small business. Tell me do you ever think critically about what you see on TV?
davidblack9071 3 years ago
Yeah, I do think critically about what I see on tv. In fact, I find it's a good idea to read newspapers too since the television is kind of limited. Do you know what a sub prime mortgage or a credit default swap is? Well, when you figure that out, let me know how regulating those two things will impede small business.
chibruins8 3 years ago
lol. is that how it works in the army now? no regulations? you're all free-lancers (actually, that would explain alot)? are you like, 12?
tessler6868 3 years ago
You can't liken what the Military does to anything in civil society. Apples and Oranges. I mean unless of course you are okay with living under a military dictatorship?
Look the sub prime mortgage/credit crisis is only PART of the problem. Our foreign policy (military spending inclusive), our Social Security and Medicade are going to bankrupt this country. We are 10 Trillion in debt. Do you think that a few hundred billion is the cause of that? Really?
davidblack9071 3 years ago
"A credit default swap (CDS) is a swap contract in which a buyer makes a series of payments to a seller and, in exchange, receives the right to a payoff if a credit instrument goes into default or on the occurrence of a specified credit event, for example bankruptcy or restructuring. The associated instrument does not need to be associated with the buyer or the seller of this contract."
They made bets that the subprime mortgages would fail (and those were in the trillions).
chibruins8 3 years ago
And no one is capable of paying off the credit default swaps. That's a huge reason the market is coming down, along with other forms of derivatives (although not all derivatives are "bad" derivatives).
chibruins8 3 years ago
And it won't let me post a link for some reason, but there's a good story about this by the AP. It's titled..
"Meltdown 101: What are credit default swaps?
By ELLEN SIMON " Dated Oct. 20, and it says that the number is somewhere around $62 trillion for credit default swaps. Yes, $62 trillion. Google "credit default swaps" under the "News" tab, and it should come up.

Or compare the number of law enforcement officers killed in Chicago to the number of soldiers and law enforcers in Iraq.
channeIreview 3 years ago
it's still safer to be a soilder in Iraq then a citen in Chicago.
PaintMaryconley 3 years ago
Um I'm pretty sure you are wrong. Unless you mean US Soldier, when you say soldier. And the citizens of Iraq are actually human beings - so the point is that a human being is safer in Chicago than in Iraq during the past six months.
channeIreview 3 years ago
Channei, as a friend, I respect your candid feedback. With that said, I think the conversation is being parsed into a comparison based on semantics. US soldiers are not responsible for the overwhelming majority of civilian deaths, and the people know this. The civilian estimates fluctuate wildly depending on who does the reporting, and insurgents are by, and large, viewed as the cause, by the people.
JustA11en 3 years ago

But...
I do support the profuse pummeling, of most of their pundits, and "reporters." Keith Olbermann, and Bill O'Reilly would be at the top of my list. Stabbing....
Can't support that platform, at this juncture in time. >:)
JustA11en 3 years ago
I just love people who try the old canard of false equivalency. O'Reilly is generally full of shit because the opinions he spouts are poorly based in fact, and his facts are generally incorrect, probably a majority of the time.
Keith Olbermann, on the other hand, you probably dislike because you disagree with his positions. He states well-informed opinions because he takes the time to do that thing called "journalism" which involves fact-checking.
Nice Try though, thanks for playing.
Stentor7 3 years ago
There is nothing remotely resembling a journalist, or a reporter, on "Count Down." He is an editorial entertainer, and your refusal to acknowledge this, demonstrates your bias. They are one, and the same, leaning in opposite directions. There is a reason he previously was employed by ESPN, and it wasn't his measured presentation of the facts. Take off the rose (or should I say blue) colored goggles, and do some research on an "abstract" concept, called; independent thought.
JustA11en 3 years ago
I love how you conveniently ignore the record of fact-checking, sorry, I was probably doing some independent thinking when you were still watching Bugs Bunny. O'Reilly makes my bullshit meter go into the red nearly every time I listen to him.
Olbermann on the other hand, seems to be willing to admit when he's mistaken, and when his facts are incorrect, something I have never seen from Bill O'Reilly. MSNBC has a more balanced record of presenting both sides.
Again, false equivalency.
Stentor7 3 years ago
And your hyperbole about my post reveals your bias. Use of phrases like remotely resembling and refusal to acknowledge demonstrate to me that you ignore facts you find to be inconvenient with your opinions, while embracing those that confirm them. That is, in no way, shape, nor form, independent thought. My opinions are influenced by the facts, and not what others try to pawn off on me as my shortcomings with their opinions.

while i do not disagree with your disparging remarks regarding the success of socialism - I believe free market capitalism has had a less than stellar record. If we look for example at the Republican control of both houses and the White Houses during the roaring the 20s that had people buying on margins which brought on the great depression - I think a certain amount of regulation is in order.
channeIreview 3 years ago
In this current crisis - lack of regulatory structures was not the problem. The problem was both branches failed to do oversite. Yes, Bush administration was less than honest and didn't come clean until it was an all out crisis - Meanwhile, rather the congressional leadership was lax in its constitutional role -- new rules and regulation is not what is needed - what is needed is legislators who have integrity!

"cant argue with free healthcare"
Unfortunately, being on a waiting list is not the same thing as access to healthcare.

BINGO! What does it matter if it's free when you can't even get in the door!

Technically, there has been change - my economic situation is worse now than it was 8 years ago.
I'm voting for the person who gives me less indigestion... and since I didn't name the individual, technically I haven't broken your rules here.
:-)

But will they be offering ice cream? =P
JustA11en 3 years ago
That will be my own reward for myself for voting and not screaming simultaneously.

It's all about honesty, you vote for the guy you can trust most, because everyone can make up promises.

Oh I am sorry. I didn't know I was writing a formal essay.
I know that it's "an" before a vowel.

Im either writing in "none of the above" or, like the last 3 election cycles, against a candidate instead of for the one I want.

Shoe on the left.
Michelle5451 3 years ago
Junk tuck....
*gags*
The shoe vote is running about 50/50. *sigh*
JustA11en 3 years ago
Well, considering a vote from FIVE FOUR FIVE ONE carries the same weight as 25 of those without the magic numbers of FIVE FOUR FIVE ONE, consider the tally leaning toward the left shoe.
Michelle5451 3 years ago
Now you know who I'm voting for. Obama. He's the lesser of two evils. Also, the supreme court is in play here and I'm not happy with the rights picks.

Sweden, they have a cradle to grave policy, covering you for education health, and unemployment,
and lets face it "An educated nation is a healthy nation, and a healthy nation is a productive nation"
it pays for its self in the end....

I'm voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
I agree with their policies and plans, and think that they are the best ones to lead the country.

Is it possible to be for McCain and against Palin? Because that's the position I'm stuck with.
Also, isn't Chicago one of those cities where you aren't allowed to have a handgun in your own house? That always struck me as interesting.
bigpapa181 3 years ago
Sure its possible. I'm voting for McCain in hopes he'll croak during his first two years in office!

Do you know anyone from these countries? I do, and their "universal" healthcare, isn't very universal. Would you like to wait a week for a common prescription, or 6 months for a routine, non-elective, procedure? They also have astronomical taxes, to support their red tape laden, systems.
JustA11en 3 years ago
I live in Canada, and have lived in Belgium, another socialist country. Our general tax rate is higher by about 7%, but we also have universal healthcare, universal pension benefits, employment insurance, cheaper tuition, and better ratings in public school performance. Too much red tape can be a bad thing, but also a good thing, such as in our banking system, where our laws don't allow lenders to do what happened in the states. There is no mortgage crisis in Canada.

How many millions of illegal non-tax paying immigrants do you estimate Canada has?
