little Sara is certainly a Princess in real life Liesel Pritzker.(aka Liesel Mathew).....worth 260 million as heir to the Pritzker fortune (Hyatt Hotels)....she sued her own father for tampering with her trust fund !
miss minchin maybe a bitch but clearly she had no fatherly figure as a child and was jealous of how saras father treasured her so i ALMOST feel bad for her (ps no excuse for being a total cow) i dont know why she thinks she isnt pretty i think so :) x
I AM A PRINCESS. ALL GIRLS ARE. EVEN IF THEY LIVE IN TINY OLD ATTICS EVEN IF THEY DRESS IN RAGS EVEN IF THEY AREN'T PRETTY OR SMART OR YOUNG THEY'RE STILL PRINCESSES. ALL OF US! i love this quote!!! PS i'm a girl (and a princess lol!) despite my username. ;)
Ever read the book? In the book it says that Miss Minchin is simply a horrid woman, obsessed with money, and that she plainly doesn't like Sara mostly because of the way she reacts to being punished (poised and just perfect, as opposed to crying and fearing her like what all the other girls do, it made Miss Minchin feel sort of inferior to her). I also suspect in the beginning that she's jealous of Sara's fortune.
It is seriously an amazing read! I highly recommend it!
This scene makes me cry so much! She stands up to Minchin and puts her in her place. I wished it showed Minchin when she left the room and had that sad look on her face and teared up a bit, shows she never experienced fatherly love.
I love the way they film this , the way the camera person has Sarah going up and Miss Minchin going down while Sarah is telling her off! I adore this scene and this movie.
I watched this yesterday with people who only speak Spanish, so it was in a spanish audio track. I missed the sound of Eleanor Bron's voice. I sthat weird? Just did not feel the same to me....
If you read the sequel, Wishing for Tomorrow, it talks about miss Minchin's own desolate, sad childhood and how she came to be the way she is...I kinda feel sorry for her at the part where she sheds a tear...so sad.
ARRGH, I've been looking for this movie for AGES!! I first watched it when I was 8 or 9 and now I'm 19, I remember the scenes clearly but couldn't remember the name. Everytime I tried to find it describing the movie people would suggest ''Annie'' instead lol :(
I KNEW there was an Indian guy and I wasnt crazy >:(
omg this is the only time i felt sorry for Ms. Minchen...like when she tells Sarah "Or better yet, look in the mirror" I was thinking what a mean, cruel woman, yelling that to a little girl....when Sarah stands up to her, I was like "Yeah! Go Sarah! You tell her!"
and then when Saran says, "Didn't your father ever tell you that?" ...I'm not sure how to describe how I suddenly changed to pitying Minchen...it's just so powerful and told in a simple way
Eleanor Bron was marvelous as Miss Minchin. It's sad how she turns on Sara when she has to become a hosekeeper for the school. Still, I pity her in this scene. Sara obviously tapped a nerve to make her tear like that. Poor woman, never knowing love.
Also I just want to point out the camera angles in this scene when its the "stand off" between sarah and miss minchin. Notice how when sarah stands up for herself against Miss Minchin the camera makes her seem taller and miss minchin seem smaller. I noticed this a while ago and LOVE IT! amazing scene!
from watching this on VHS when I was 5 until now watching it on netflix when I am 20, this movie is one of the greatest I've seen. (oh and I cry at the end every time.)
That's why I love A Little Princess, Snow White, Cinderella... they teach that we're all ladies, all princesses, and we need to act like it so people will remember to treat us like one. They teach that princesses never give up and love EVERYONE, not just people who are nice to us, because what's so impressive about that?
@Aliyasosweet I think it's because her dad proberly either wasn't very nice to her or he died or something because if you look when sara says "didn't your father ever tell you that" Miss Minchin looks quite hurt and sad
@anticliche321 Yeah that's what I thought either that or he died or something, proberly explains why she seems quite a bitter person, it's sad really :(
Love this scene! My favorite part!. At the beginning the angle is high on Sara making her look smaller compared to Miss Minchin, and then when she does her speech, the rolls reverse and the angle gets low on Sara and high on Miss Minchin making, MIss Minchin the smaller weaker person in this scene. GENIUS!
This is my favourite bit of dialogue from the movie though I wish you would have let it go on for three more seconds. When Miss Minchin sheds a tear is the ONLY time I feel sorry for her in the movie. She must have been raised by strict parents and never shown love, herself.
@meatballhead15 I'm same I really feel sorry for her when she sheds that tear - there's so much drama in that moment. You can just tell that she never was told such things and that now it hurts to hear Sarah telling her things she doesn't want to hear. Somehow that makes her actions just that bit more harder to bear instead of her being a pure, linear villianess.
@meatballhead15 I know... I actually felt like crying when I saw her cry! People like that who are so unhappy they feel the need to make others unhappy are the ones who really need to be shown compassion and love.
Sarah is right. All women are princesses. It's the truth. We all deserve respect and love-no matter who we are!

Just generally making that girl badass!
