this is the second time I have seen this happen once last year I heard of this happening also. I dont understand why the pilot of the big plane is doing low passes when it is knowen people are flying rc. I know miscomunications happen but wow.. thats a bad one to have happen.. stupid mistakes like this could end our hobbys so we all must be more careful fullscale pilots and rc pilots alike
to it looks like there was a big RC meet there.. the person flying the full-scale plane.. must have been ill informed that there was rc activity there.. or he could see there were people there so he thought he;d show boat a little. the guy flying the RC plane.. had a good attitude about the situation. and knw what could have happened. i just put it down to bad organizers.
That's because the AMA is a private club, and they do not issue any kind of license. No license is required to fly remote controlled airplanes. Educate yourselves first people then post.
According to AMA rules...you're not supposed to be flying at an Air Port anyway and you should always yield the right of way to plane carrying persons. As such, I don't see how they got a AMA license to be flying here anyway. Abandoned Airport..perfect..
This should be sent to the NTSB. Apparently, rc planes do not have the right-of-way over any aircraft category, as stated in the FAR. It was lucky that the rc plane did not cause serious damage to the real stunt plane. For god's sake there is a person inside that airplane, but there's no one in that rc plane. Imagine if the stunt plane crashed and injured or killed the pilot, the rc guy would be in big trouble.
@sweetsf4life if the real one crashed it would kill a lot of people. i also think the rc plane did some damage to the prop of the real plane. 1)get a new lawnmower 2)get an rc plane like his 3) run the rc plane over with the lawnmower 4)check the damage to the lawnmower blade 5)compare damage of lawnmower blade with the real planes prop 6)think of what the difference is between a real plane and the lawnmower blade (lawnmower blades are WAY thinner than an airplane props). 6)thank me.
I don't know here, but it seems that R/C planes ( if possible ) should have a dedicated field for flying, besides the actual crash in video , that whole field layout has accident written all over it.. R/C cars don't fair well in real traffic either for the same reason....
Wow, you silly daft people. Have you any idea how hard it is to controll a stunt plane? No. It was not the rc pilot or the real pilot's falt. There is somthing called "not being able to hear somthing" This rc pilot was in an airshow so it was ment to be known by the real pilot. The real pilot was in the airshow too. This was just a miscommunication. So you can stop all your witty comments.
blame the guy instructing the pilot to land the guy giving the pilot the okay to land no pilot will land anywhere that is not how it works you need permission to land
The Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circular (AC) 91-57, Model Aircraft Operating Standards, stated that operators should give right of way to, and avoid flying in the proximity of, full-scale aircraft. The AC also encourages operators to use observers to help.
There's no way the pilot saw the RC plane hovering over the runway. There were people, tents, and airplanes everywhere [close to the runway] so you can't expect the pilot to [not land] because there were "people around".
The fact that the spotter said 'I didn't know you were going around' means he was okay with the the RC plane being where it was while the biplane was landing (or so he thought). As with every accident, this is the result of bad decision making.
@Husein545 I wouldn't blame him. I'd blame the organizers or the pilot. No one saw that plane coming and he shouldn't have made such a low pass with spectator damn near ON the runway. If this was a real air show that pilot would be in deep shit.
I like the video but not what happened in it. They were generally just not operating the event safely. Open runway with an R/C in the air? Oil and water.
Man that really bites. I hope the pilot of that pitts was man enough to help you buy another one. Sorry to see that man. Boy but if you had superman powers. That would have been one nice aerial ass whoppin' footage.
I'd be holding someone liable for this. The pit boss who let him fly obviously is at fault for the poor communication with the pilot of the full scale plane. The RC pilot obviously had his hands full in front of the crowd. Both of these pilots are professionals in their own right and eight thousand bucks went down the drain not to mention the damage to the full scale its wonder that both planes didn't go down and kill someone. And as for the ignorant comments ' why dont you go scratch your nuts.
i read the original artical and it was both a rc show and a full scale air show. well what i got of it was the guy flying the rc plane had the right to fly by the pit boss, and the dumb ass in the real plane didnt even contact the pit boss to ask about a fly by. from what i understand the guy in the full size plane ripped a huge whole in his wing making the plane unflyable. my heart goes out the rc guy, that was a dam fine lookin plane and i would have been just as pissed if that happened to me!
That was crazy!!! I would have kick some ones ass for smashing my plane!! Don't care who's fault it is. If he was told he could do his tricks right there how is it his fault? Why are people talking crap about how someone dresses or how they chose to fly their plane. To each there own and I thought it was pretty bad ass to hover his plane, I can't yet
I believe both planes were part of the airshow, so I don't think he just decided to go out and practice. There was an article about this incident and how it all came to happen in a Model Aviation magazine.
These guys are not idiots but rather victims of their own poor judgement. The RC pilot, full scale pilot and the air boss are equaly responsible for the incident and any one of them could have prevented the incident at any time by practicing common sense decision making. Yes it was a stupid thing to do but remember there were three people involved and not one. Thank GOD that no one was injured and believe me when I say nobody is as thankfull as those involved.
No doubt, the airboss owes this guy a new plane. He was responsible for seperation and failed. Show's his incompetance too, by having pedestrians on an active runway, while full scale operations are going on. Can hear people questioning "Is he taking off?" toward the end. SOOOO many mistakes. RC should have just landed during the full scale's landing attempt.
This is , without a doubt , one of the most egregious examples of unsafe operation; RC planes flying around with full scale , at the same time?? and this idiot, hovering his airplane over the runway and standing underneath it is another example of stupid RC flying at its best...get a friggin helicopter you imbecile! What group of morons would allow full scale operations while this jerk is hovering on an active runway...wow.
Thats not flying anyway! I have flown rc for 25+ years and that hanging a giant scale plane off the prop?? thats not flying plus his clothes are halarious! what a dumbass!!
@snapz90 what the fuck does flying for 25 years have anything to do with? You are just jealous because you have been flying for 25 years and you can't fly worth a shit.
@snapz90 You see, the moral of the story is that NO R/C aircraft should be flying with a full scale, warbirds, 3D, Helis, Sport, I dont care, just dont fly around full scale...
Number One: I don't think he thought that RC plane was going to hurt his aircraft. Number Two: Our Local Air-Port shares its field with our RC Club, lots of small fields do it, in order to stay open.
Number Three: The Tower watches the strip with the RC Vehicles like a hawk, and doesn't alow full size aircraft to fly within 1500 feet of the airstrip. Usually those combined airshows are pretty strictly controlled.
anyone who thinks a pilot would gamble their life & the structural integrity of their plane to destroy some loser's toy needs to just put the pipe down. the clown with the RC plane needs to just practice on a dirt strip near his slum in Brighton, why these are even flown near aircraft is retarded. Hilarious wanker clothing worn by the RC flying backstreet boy.
@afcomser Really??? You think the pilot flew his plane into the r/c plane deliberately? And put his own life and those on the ground in jeopardy? Really???
if i was the rc pilot i would hit a punch in the face of the real plane pilot.

Also, why is video so skinny?
