it's NYS high school racing....not supposed to be super competitive. It was what got me through highschool remaining relatively sane. Stop bashing it unless you're an Olympic quality racer
you make all this a very big deal, skiing isnt hard. what are the agees of thees e skiiers? i dont think non of these skiiers is going to be pro. they really dont have the snow contact, and snow feeling. And i think thst plays a big role when it comes to ski fast in these thigt slopes. In Norway, where i come from we usally start skiing when we are about 2- 3 years old! and we have worlds best alpine skiiers, ski jumpers , cross coyntry skiiers, and skaters. but its good to se their having fun :)
Spencer - How bout I take you to the top of Whiteface Mtn in the middle of February and leave your ass there - I promise you will be calling for your mama to get you off the mountain and change your soiled diapers.
Yea thats a pretty sad representation of American Skiing. Some of the best in the world are at Steamboat Colorado. A town that has produced more olympic skiers than any other US town. But those high schoolers were slow and sloppy. I wish people would stop bsing so much in their vids
Yours, and many other comments are missing the point. This video does not claim to represent competitive American skiing. It's about kids having a chance to race, something they all benefit from. A very credible race coach said that many of these kids race at their own ability level and have personal goals. Not every kid wants to or can can pursue the Olympic dream. Sometimes just being in the race is reward enough.
Best ski racers in the world per capita are not in the US, we just get lucky every once in a while having such amazing athletes like Lindsey and Bode picking skiing as their sports, skiing is out of the means of many in the US, very little subsidize is put into the US ski program, so the large majority at Jr. level are limited to well to do parents, hence the huge discrepancy between top talent and OK competitive skier and this is just the tip of it
i didnt say best per capita in the us i said some of the best in the world. steamboat has produced more olympic skiers than any other us town i wasnt talking about the world... and still bode put them all to shame when he skied with a hangover and still won
When I said "Best ski racers in the world per capita are not in the US", it means, for the amount of people we have in the US compared to the size of other countries, we should have more top skiers; sure we have the two best but then it drops pretty quick after that this is not good, this crappy economy is not going to help BTW Bode is from the NH
yea i know what per capita is ive taken a few econ classes... im just saying no its not east verse west but steamboat has had 56 olympic skiers thats an undeniable ability for a town to raise the best
That doesnt mean anything in the larger picture, any country can have an Olympic team, and it goes back to the lack of top athletes choosing skiing as a sport, most go into football, basketball, golfing and so on... occasionally we get some wold class athletes in skiing - the real question is, of those 65 Olympians, how many ranked in the top five in the world?
@phil656565 These are high schoolers. I'm on my high school ski team and we ski for fun. We go out and ski and have fun. We don't go to try and get a chance at the olympics. Oh, and btw, if you want to you can go show me how you ski in a slalom and try and show up any one of those kids, or me
Totally agree with you I live in Switzerland and no offense but these guys are for sure not at the highest level of racing there only on school ski teams so what the hell most ski racers in europe are on either national or city teams. They are pretty good but no way near the best nor highest level of skiing.
I don't get it very well, why would you guys be training slalom ?
you should be doing like only GS and SG !
we in Belgium CAN only train SL, cos we don't have long steep slopes... and we hate that.
GS and SG are the base of alpine ski racing...

@dotheCHACHA123 Amen to that. It's not about who is best, it's about who is there.

They all need to work on their starts, they need to get the back tips higher to get the foward momentum going.
