How i fixed my Xbox (original)

Hey i got a 3 red ring of death on my xbox but all the AV cables and shit are plugged in. Haven't touched in for months and it finally happened until now. Didn't move anywhere. What do i do?

Hey when i click the button on the power block you plug into the wall the light flashes red and green then the button un-presses itself...i tried unplugging it, blowing on the cord, and all those old tricks but nothing has worked...any solutions? and i dont mean buy a new 1 i have a 360 i just dont want 2 loose my data for the original

i removed the rubber ring and cleaned it and it works like new does not get stuck now.

My friend has this issue. You have to push on the tray a couple times after pressing the eject button. I think it just needs a serious internal and external cleaning. Possibly lubrication to.

hey, i have a few questions of what i should do with mine. no one really even talks about origionals anymore nor plays them but i have to play mine for an exclusive game only for pc and origional xbox, anyway the problem is its old and used and has some history on it and i got it refurbished from gamestop, but when i got it i put my new game in its always telling me to take it out and check if its dirty or damaged but the game isnt i know they get these problems eventually but how do you fix it?

@davidallenspears14 yes first you need a pc dvd drive (standard IDE)

second you need a molex Y splitter. unplug the IDE cable from the xbox DVD Drive (leave the 8 wire yellow cable attached!!!) and then plug it into the PC-DVD Drive unplug the power cable from the xbox hdd then attach the Y Splitter then plug in one end into the hdd and the pc dvd drive insert a disc into the xbox dvd drive (Audio CD, Game or Data DVD) and a disc into the pc dvd drive and it should work!!!

uh dude,.. you're going to have some problems down the road, that cover is supposed to keep dust off the lense of the laser. if it starts saying there are dvd errors, it;s probably the dust. buy a new dvd drive on the internet, i got one for about $30. easy to install, just remove the plactic piece on the dvd tray(pull on the bottom of the plastic and it will slide up and off) and then put it on the new one. it looks original and works. warrenty is already void because it's opened

just buy a regular standard desktop pc ide dvd drive and google how to mount it on the xbox ..i think u should set it on slave..i bought a dvd burner for mine could'nt find a dvd drive where i'am.. it works just fine and so damn fast ..game loads almost fast as an hdd

Once you have the tray out look at the gears near the front of the drive especially the rubber band that goes from the motor to one of the gears.

First take the drive out of the xbox and if you take the drive out of the drive housing then turn it upside down there is a little white plasic thing near the front of the drive that is in a little track(its near the motor that opens the drive). If you get a small screw driver and push it down the track the drive will unlock and you can pull the drive tray out.

Green and orange usually indicates that the audio/video or component cables aren't connected. Just like xBox 360, xBox requires the cable to be plugged in for it to start up. It will even do that if it is on, and you unplug the cable.

@GamesProductions567 that means the av isn't recognized by the xbox. happened to me like, 9 times. 5 new av cables for the xbox. make sure it is plugged in. if it is, try a new cable. that doesn't work: get a 360.

u can go to any hobber store and bring it in and show them the drive and i can say right now the reson the drive is not coming out is . theres a rubber band like thing under the drive that is proble worn out and it spins and it just doesnt get a grip of it..

When you open the top half of the system (like i did in the video) you have to unscrew the drive from the actual system. After that you gently pull it out. and there are screws on the bottom of the CD/DVD drive holding the top and bottom case together. Unscrew those and just leave the top half off when you put the drive back. Its really easy lol. Im actually selling this now. I guess i should make a follow up video tonight since i bored during winter break lol.

Looks like a Samsung drive? Take it out, press the clips at the top rear right side

to manually eject the tray, it will slide out. Lift up the arm (with the little teeth) then reset it to the first tooth add some Vaseline, problem fixed- it will eject again.

the cd needs the other piece from under the cd lid. I believe its a magnet to help hold it down.
