@darkallegiance666 While there are exceptions to anything, I wrote before I was in pageants and ballet. I can tell you that ballet is allot worse, as in challenging and the mums were much more controlling, (Not that Im not glad my mum made me do it). yet the sport ballet is much more socially acceptable? And as I said earlier I am now doing neuroscience in third year uni (hardly remember pageants). If you are using Dr. Phil as a reference, you don't have much evidence to support your argument

@darkallegiance666 I am an Australian too :) I found it interesting when they tried to bring it over hear that they actually got DEATH threats, that gives us a bad name if you ask me, pageantry did me no harm, although ballet I had some unfortunate injuries/moments, like backstage before estedfords/concerts you would have to go naked for quick costume changes, and while I was little I didn't mind, but once 13 it was embarrassing I hated it, btw HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY :D xx

@darkallegiance666 Hi another Australian :) I don't know if they got death threats but there were petitions online to keep the pageant Eden was promoting in Melbourne from happening, and a protest group in a park on the day where they had a dude dressed in fake tan, fake eyelashes and fake teeth (LOL) and one woman said on the news (forgot what her title was) that we don't need toxic American-style child beauty pageants in Australia, and it got so much protests because it was the first glitz one

This is such a tricky subject - some kids love doing these pageants & others hate them & are pushed into it by their mums. My own feeling is that kids should be allowed to be kids & not be forced to look like miniature adults & spend their weekends flirting on stage & being changed from one outfit to another etc, but hey - I'm 50 y/o, so I'm a bit biased, I guess.

I think that whether the kids enjoy it or not, it's not the same as dressing up to make themselves feel pretty, and it's not a dance or sports competition based on skills that can be improved, it's a competition based solely on outward appearances and that concept of appearance competition is too mature for for children, therefore I don't think they should have child pageants for people under at least 16. You're being biased, you're being very truthful :)
@BigImaginationDoll16 It bothers me too that the young kids get used to receiving a great deal of attention & positive reinforcement just for looking good with heaps of make up, special clothes, tutored steps & behavior on stage. I don't think that this helps them to have self esteem for being who they are, but teaches them that they are only valued if they pretend to be something for other people & win prizes. It all appears to be about appearance - cuteness - only.

people act like pagents is a horrible thing.... alot of these kids love doing it! yes i agree there are some that shouldnt be doing them and that the parents are doing it for themselfs but eden is one of the kids that loves doing it and her mom has asked her before

This is evil. Have you noticed these moms are fat, and ugly? The reason there letting there girls to go on the stage is because they don't want them to look like ugly whores like them. Instead, they want them to look like hookers with there fancy make up and stupid photography, and after every pagent is over, the little girls end up like dicks (mean people) It's just wrong. Plus if you notice this is ON AIR where everybody can see them. I bet a bunch of pedophiles are watching the show.

I've seen this argument posted everywhere on YT, and while it may hold some truth, it's still open-ended. It's alarming to me to see how many people call little girls ugly, sluts, fat, etc... Grow up to be normal adults? Is that why I saw one of those grown up pageant girls on Dr. Phil because she thought that she had BDD but instead was narcissistic? Come on, who could achieve "normality" after this type of thing at such an early age!!!

@darkallegiance666 While there are exceptions to anything, I wrote before I was in pageants and ballet. I can tell you that ballet is allot worse, as in challenging and the mums were much more controlling, (Not that Im not glad my mum made me do it). yet the sport ballet is much more socially acceptable? And as I said earlier I am now doing neuroscience in third year uni (hardly remember pageants). If you are using Dr. Phil as a reference, you don't have much evidence to support your argument

I'm an Australian & while I know that beauty contests go on over here, I don't think that we have the same accent on pageants, so thank you for replying!! I think that we have over-competitive parents who push their kids into sports, ballet, singing etc. So pageantry did you no harm? Did it do you any good? I'm really happy to read that that you have made a good life for yourself!!

@darkallegiance666 I am an Australian too :) I found it interesting when they tried to bring it over hear that they actually got DEATH threats, that gives us a bad name if you ask me, pageantry did me no harm, although ballet I had some unfortunate injuries/moments, like backstage before estedfords/concerts you would have to go naked for quick costume changes, and while I was little I didn't mind, but once 13 it was embarrassing I hated it, btw HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY :D xx

@blueberrybublemuffin Always glad to meet another Australian online!! I didn't know about the death threats, which I think is a major over-reaction. I guess that we have zealous parents in all fields. I know that my sister would have loved to do something like pageants & beauty contests, while I would have hated it. I hate seeing parents pushing their children to do something that they dislike or are miserable with, no matter what. Happy Australia day to you too!! :D

@darkallegiance666 Hi another Australian :) I don't know if they got death threats but there were petitions online to keep the pageant Eden was promoting in Melbourne from happening, and a protest group in a park on the day where they had a dude dressed in fake tan, fake eyelashes and fake teeth (LOL) and one woman said on the news (forgot what her title was) that we don't need toxic American-style child beauty pageants in Australia, and it got so much protests because it was the first glitz one

This is such a tricky subject - some kids love doing these pageants & others hate them & are pushed into it by their mums. My own feeling is that kids should be allowed to be kids & not be forced to look like miniature adults & spend their weekends flirting on stage & being changed from one outfit to another etc, but hey - I'm 50 y/o, so I'm a bit biased, I guess.

I think that whether the kids enjoy it or not, it's not the same as dressing up to make themselves feel pretty, and it's not a dance or sports competition based on skills that can be improved, it's a competition based solely on outward appearances and that concept of appearance competition is too mature for for children, therefore I don't think they should have child pageants for people under at least 16. You're being biased, you're being very truthful :)

@BigImaginationDoll16 It bothers me too that the young kids get used to receiving a great deal of attention & positive reinforcement just for looking good with heaps of make up, special clothes, tutored steps & behavior on stage. I don't think that this helps them to have self esteem for being who they are, but teaches them that they are only valued if they pretend to be something for other people & win prizes. It all appears to be about appearance - cuteness - only.
