Even if the graphics do look kiddish, the gameplay is far from kiddish.

RA2 had some kiddish simple tacitics. basically the more unit you have you win, you just spam spam spam and you win, no micro really.

RA3 is way more different, more complex a gameplay that people like you can not understand unless if you play it long enough to realize the whole idea.

I used to play Ra1 since I was a kid. I loved both Ra2 and Ra1 which is why I have Ra3 now. I don't regret buying Ra3 it's an awesome game.

I don't judge games by graphics, I can't even play the game on full graphics. Ra2 and RA1 had 2d graphics but the gameplay was so fun.

There is lots of people who used to play ra2 and ra1 and now plays ra3. They are just not here on youtube.

Here on youtube you have old fans who just come here to say RA2 is better.

But the most realistic depiction would have no base building or anything, because all they do today is send helicopters of soldiers. Let me put it this way, imagine CnC 4 without a unit cap and the technology, and you may not get a necessarily bad game, but it wouldn't nearly be as fun as traditional rts.

Ra2 was all about tanks, not much air and water. You would see ground battles most of the time.

In ra3 infantries are no longer so weak. It is pretty realistic if you see the concept.

but Ra never intended to be realistic if you want some realistic RTS go play Company of Heroes or even CNC tiberium.

That's when EA bought out our beloved Westwood Studios and decided to make C&C just some generic boring RTS. Nothing that has been made since Generals has been as good as the original games. RA3 is pretty good and so are a few others but Generals and C&C:4 are easily a couple of the worst RTS games out there.

@MasterofPainfulDeath C&C was NEVER meant to be about realism, though... it's about the great story. That's why it's such a long series. Most RTS games focus just on gameplay and that doesn't leave much room for a sequel because it would be repetitive, but C&C has a crazy amount of games in it's series just because it's able to pull that off. I really wish Westwood was still running the show.

I've not played very much of it but I've been trying it this past week and it's pretty cool visually and it plays more like a C&C game should (I'm talking about SP though I was never into the MP in C&C) It's not as great as RA2 nor will it ever be and the dumb selection borders drive me crazy but otherwise I've been having fun with it.

Also look at Dawn of War 2, complete fantasy setting yet it is realistic because evrything could actually happen so many years in the future. So no mindcontrolled bears or something but guns that fire mini rockets; both are futuristic but the latter is much more probable (and awesome).
