  • Love his music and his politics.

  • Love the man's music, hate his politics.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! Major J.M. fan. Saw him in concert a couple of times back in the day....fantastic!

  • He knew how to take everyday mundane existence and make an incredible song out of it;it's no wonder his music is still relevant today.

  • this sounds better than the studio version, how many bands can make that claim.. their live stuff better than studio.??!?!?! NONE

  • You are so right about that. Todays artists can learn some things from mr cougar and his great band

  • where does the time go my daughter was 10 months old on this concert date how she is 22 years old and out of college

  • MTV used to show music videos? Man I just thougth it showed stuff like Yo MTV raps and Cribs

  • LOVE THE HAIR.... his hair was like super short compared to that when i saw him

  • I didn't realize this song was that old. It always sounds so fresh.I love this song ! Saw him today,as good as ever. Great band ! Always a positive vibe, with plenty of wisdom. Johnny Cougar, an All American Boy !

  • in terms of a live performance sounding as close to the album as possible, that is probably the best live performance ive ever heard.

ive seen/heard others with more energy or i enjoyed more, but in terms of sounding as close to the album as possible, that takes the cake.

  • thats cuz they had to rely on there own skills not lots of tenology

  • this is by far the best video he ever made, just because the smile on his face. tells the whole feeling, i have to smile and get chills every time

  • Tell me that James Brown move at 2:44 isn't the shit ! I would of loved to have seen him and this band on this tour !!!

  • wow, never heard JCM live before, that was as clean as the album version with the added live atmosphere making it even better :)

  • He always sings about things close to the Amereicn heart- a living legend!

  • My parents were at this concert and when he does the splits later iin the song he ripped his pants so there was about a 10 minute intermission while he changed his pants.

  • LoL ha ha.... grew up listening to him! I am gonna start singing his stuff too, mainly focusing on my Plant (Zepplin) material right now. I do some of his tunes as well though.

  • Been there

  • As pointed out, Mellencamp's violinist at the time was Lisa Germano, who shares a hometown (Mishawaka!) with me and has done very well for herself as a solo artist.

  • yeah, and she FINE, too!

  • a true "american" poet!!

  • I saw this concert live, as I was a 19 yr old kid from Kokomo, 40 miles north. It was the best of over 100 concert's I have seen in my lifetime!!!!!!!!!!

  • awsome take care friends!! : ) !!!!!!!!!

  • This is simply a great song. Its great music. What more needs to be said?

  • i love the fact that this guy has stuck to his roots and hasnt changed much over all these years. And he still showed up and backed indiana basketball even though it was the worst year in our history.

  • Now that's a guitar solo.

  • That hair is intense!

  • Out of all his songs, this one is my favorite...it was strange...we have an old VHS 80s tape with Garfield Christmas, Garfield in Paradise, THEN it cuts to this very music video...taped off MTV even!...then after this Cherry Bomb plays...then it plays Garfield does Hollywood...then Santa Clause: The Movie (80s movie taped off of ABC)...I love JCM! I also liked the songs "LIght Paper and FIre" and the recent "Your LIfe is Now"

  • Haha, that sounds like a few dozen VHS tapes I had back in the day. Garfield in Paradise rocked my childhood, especially the part with the High Ramalama and the Ding Dongs.

  • I was in the front row when this was taped. It was amazing!

  • I have always loved the violinist in his group. It is her string work that pulls me into his songs.

  • this is a bad ass live video

  • His hair is nice here, I still love Bon Jovi better but he is cool too.

  • I won tickets to a Mellencamp concert in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2007, and he was real good. I am not a big fan, but he has not lost a step or beat. His concert is a must see.

  • Congrats! Your mom must be proud!

  • Lol beat this sucker. My dad when he was little, won tickets to a John Cougar concert right when he was getting famous.. like the year... 1973! BEAT THAT! XD

  • I think this is one of his best songs,Wish I could see him in concert with my wife, she would love that!

  • One of my favorite Mellencamp songs! I'm glad I found the video. Remember when MTV actually played videos??? LOL

  • wow, my mom was actually in that vid.

  • Which one is she?

  • the one to the right of the dude in white at about 1:33

  • A very true song!!!

  • wicked cool..they dont rock like this anymore..showmanship today sucks

  • AMEN!

  • Thank you for posting this. Mr. Mellencamp is a great songwriter. One of my alltime favorite songs

  • Marvelous performance....hairdress ....like Modern Talking ..LOL...Superb group of musician. Cougar forever

  • Come taste me??? WTF kind gay freakin' fudgepacker are you, Bogart

  • I was there that night!! What an experience!!! And I can find myself in the video!!!

  • This is an excellent tune - certainly JCM's 2nd best (next to Scarecrow), and the girl on the violin is great, but the only complaints I have are 1) His hair style does not look good; 2) His doing splits on stage just do not suit a rock and roll star! Otherwise, 5 stars!

  • JCM's best song!

  • The woman playing the violin is Lisa Germano!

  • the chick on the violin is hot. anyone know her name

  • Mellencamp for president!!!!

  • damn.......... i miss my younger days when dad paid the bills and all i had to do was cut grass and hang out with my buddies....damn i feel old but what a good ride it has been.....the good days are gone but not forgotten...................

  • DUDE! It only beginning...this generation dont know how it use to be...vietnam...n so forth...Im 55 and Im going back to civil disobedience...thats whats required!

  • You're right there; all that was gained then is being lost now and I think it's because we got a little lazy. To wit: "Is it not the job of every man to seek Liberty and therein Justice?"

  • Damn where does our time go?? I remember this song when I graduated high school which seems like yesterday but 20 years ago!! When we used to get drunk on saturday and play football on sunday!! BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE!! Man I wish I could go back!! I miss my boys!!

  • was some good times the old ford thunder chicken and cranken it up this song really brings it back

  • You know, The Sad Thing, Is This Song Is To True. I Love It, But Its True

  • this is one of my favorites his lyrics are right on who said indiana had no talent was full of shit and dont no shit about talent fuck them critics are they out there making music hell no when they write a song then they can comment

  • What a wonderful song.

This really makes me think that John really is a caring person. A decent human being.

  • 20 years ago, and still the best!

  • Oh hell yea!!

  • John Mellencamp For President.

  • yeah, 20 years ago 11 dec 87, this song was recorded live...and this 11 dec my son raman was born. gotta be john's best song i'd say, for vibes, music, and esp lyrics (that's e.s.p.)! great surge of hope "for a better understanding" in the world, animated in *everyone* in the video.

  • Wow..one of my favorite Mellencamp songs'

Plus, it was 20 years ago today it was performed.
