  • Thumbs up if Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) sen you here!

  • In Dutch this horror story is known as: The Man With 2 Faces.

  • i can t bealive im gonna say this but i like this movie!!!

  • Fain!!

  • im rather surprised this is all up, and with decent quality, often stuff like this is taken down due to copyright infringement conflicts within the first couple days after being uploaded

  • omg i got so freaked out im watching this at one cause i have a book report on it and lost the book!

  • having fun, isn't hard, when you've got a library card!

  • This is a beautiful movie. Surprisingly it is also very entertaining! People should applaud the musicians who tirelessly entertained us for 1 hour and 22 minutes with beautiful Gothic music.

  • The first is the best..

  • a true classic

  • THIS BOOK SUCKS

  • My head is about to explode!

  • sorry spencer (my favorite actor of all time) but the best version of this is the fredrich march, miriam hopkins version!

  • im fuvking jekyll and hyde

  • @watchMePlayBlink182 blink-182?

  • Thank you. Spectacular film. I've read that Barrymore used no makeup for the change. Maya

  • this movie must be public domain to be on you tube, right?

  • It's been years since I read the book, but don't you only find out Jekyll is Hyde at close to the end of the book?

  • Wow that was deep

  • That`s one of Drew Barrymore`s relatives. They were an elite group of actors.

  • What is with the giant hands?

  • I read this Book in Language Arts!

  • lol ive never known a movie on youtube to go for this long!

  • @sean57900 you tube does have movies on here not just this one. :D

  • YESSSS, now i don't have to read my book for English!!!!!!

  • most handsome jekyll -.-

  • But its awesome:P

  • This movie i had to see because my school exam will come out :(

  • they should make a 2011 version.

  • good gosh , this movie had way scarier music in the version i tvoed from tmc.

  • I'm scared of this movies without sound.

  • I need 1080p!

  • Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D minor, organ

  • just watching this film cuz someone called me Mr. hyde and I didn't know whats that mean

so I thought I should watch the movie

  • hey its not in high def!! lmfao

  • "Something is wrong with the master!" "It's the master, step in time. It's the master, step in time...."

  • where is the 3D?? xDD

  • reacted too quickly after drinking; he should have built up suspense anticipating the effect then register the agony.

  • This really isn't at all like the book. It's taking me longer to watch the movie than to read the book.

  • sweet!! i dont have to read the book for school now!!!!!!!!!! this is sooo much better then reading it and becoming confused by it! :]

  • were is the HD button lol

  • hehe...i like hyde...in this movie anyway

  • Sex and gore have existed in art for centuries. You might say that this movie deals with sexuality, especially considering that whole "TEMPTATION" bulletin and the dancing floozy that Dr. Jekyll won't approach out of morality unless he's on his serious bipolar medication. But yeah, there's not a lot of substance in more modern movies.

  • I like muting the volume and seeing Dr. Jekyll jam out to some dance floor music at 25:28.

  • 25:29 for the Transformation.

  • e@nightbane2 fuck the transformation where the penetration?

  • @nightbane2 lol

  • is it the original soundtrack?

  • WARNING: the additional weight in this flv download is ortginated in the trojan that makes that an "object" invades your PC or laptop, especially if your OS is windows 7, by introducing an "invited visitor" into the !home net", which creates a "strange account" that controls immediately your Control Panel. Try other copies here, not this one.

  • the music doesn't fit the emotion at some points

  • Okay, I agree that reading the book isn't the same as watching a movie. However, some movies are better than books, and vice versa. I've watched plenty of movies that do books the same amount or a better amount of justice. It's all a matter of opinion, really.

  • Awesome!

  • I have to read this book for school but can I just watch the movie and it'll pretty much be like watching the book? Need a reply fast!

  • @YourGrandmaXD Read the book you lazy idiot. Of course it's not going to be the same, films always tweak the story a little. If you could just watch the film and not read the book, then what would be the point of the teacher giving it to you? English is more than just knowing the plot of the story, you need to look at all kinds of narratives, which you can't explore through film.

  • thanks for help us to maintei alive te horror films and see them

  • I really liked this, though the music is pretty grating. I preferred it after I muted it :p. Thanks!

  • I read the book and it's a very good lecture! :D

  • The one thing I don't like is sometimes the speech can get to be far apart.

  • A true classic, a respect for the theatrical arts!

  • See, now this is a classic movie. No CGi, no gore, no sex, nothing that todays movies need to keep an audience entertained. Movies like this were able to keep you entertained by using suspense, atmosphere, the power of suggestion. Things that modern movie makers know nothing about.

  • @AddoNexusMusic

Not really! The methods we know these days are the result of theirs. They want to know what the audience want most. But now they don't make it as an art, more than making it for money. It use to be like writing a book or painting a picture; money is not more important than the context. We only want the cheapest, fastest, and easiest ways to wealth. And that leads them to the junk movies that we see now.

  • @aulshuwaier if I agree with you, adaptations to the new movie from the original context of a book are crude and cheap .... forget the true essence of cinema

  • @AddoNexusMusic there is nothing exciting about this film

  • so you are saying that there is good movies in the 2000's

  • @AddoNexusMusic I think gore and sex is entertaining

  • @spursfan112 gross ;/

  • @nissybo9822 lol!

  • @AddoNexusMusic

there are of course a couple exceptions, but overall you're right :p

  • @AddoNexusMusic So your telling me titanic the #1 movie in history is crap since theirs sex in it?

  • @HIZULU no. that movie is not the best movie ever. that is an opinion. and no. he means movies now. like immortals or avatar.

  • @AddoNexusMusic wouldn't agree with that entirely.

Modern movies just recreate old stories, the horror genre's in a bit of a mess.. Movies like Saw and Hostel with no real plot other than an excuse for violence is pretty bad.

You do see horror film stories in modern a lot of modern films, the new planet of the apes for example is actually very similar to Frankenstein.

The same questions old horror films used to ask are still around, just not so much in horror genre

  • @AddoNexusMusic Not entirely true. Yes, most mainstream films today are not artistic and use too much CGI, but there are hundreds or even thousands of independent movies out there that are completely overlooked. Of Gods and Men (2010) was a very recent movie that did not use CGI, had no sex and gore, and did not even have much background music. It was a beautiful story about a few priests in a monastery and it won Palm d'Or in Cannes. These movies do exist, we just need to find them.

  • I was view nr 222 222 :)

  • Very well done! Thanks for posting! A classic !!!

  • WHERES THE FARKING SOUND ARGGHHHH

    jk

  • yeah! like the videogame

  • These movies are so much better than what they put out today, ugh. Luckily they still show the classics on the TCM channel, and that we have YouTube to view them.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Can you help me because i am comfused.

I love the history of ancient coltures(Egypt,Greece and China),the 80's life, the music of the 90's,the technology of the 00's and the movies from 1910-1940.

    Whats wrong with me?

Bye the way, thank you for brining back to life movies from the begining of filmmaking.

And thank James Rolfe (AVGN) for lerning me about oldschool movies from his website too.

  • @psistis80 There is nothing wrong with you. You respect history, (unlike most people of todays society) and you love watching history being recorded with motion pictures.

  • uppt mal bite jemand blokkmonsta valentinsag? hat kack deine röhre gelöscht die husos

  • Also...why can you upload this? I know you're a partner, but wouldn't this be copy righted?

  • even though it's a silent film and not the best quality, at least it's when effort was exercised to its fullest and everything was tried to make a movie perfect.

  • barrymore was such a creepy hyde!the fact that the movie is silent makes it creepier!

  • wtf y arent they talking?

  • @MrNomad8 Silent film?... are you stupid?

  • @MrNomad8 Haha what are you, 9? It's a silent movie... *facepalm*

  • @MrNomad8 Read The Fucking Description. RTFD

  • Is this very similar to the book?

  • ugh hate this stupid movie if it wasnt for our damn project i wudnt waste my time even watching a min of it!!!!!

  • @marbella1665 at least respect this piece of art by not calling it stupid. We each have our own opinions. I understand you don't have the mental capacity to understand just how wonderful this is :P its fine :D

  • @marbella1665

There is much that can be appreciated and even liked if one but has the eye for it. Or the ability to try and look at things from various angles. Why not try to see the art achieved with such minimal means for the time? Or at least see how very far cinema has come and study how differently your generation expects movies to be. These days everything is special effects and lame plot and weak characters. Every generation steadily has shorter attention spans as well. *sigh*...

  • PRICELESS MUSIC!

  • hahahahahah 0-V-E-R-K-I-L-L A@ 59:42 HAHA

  • hahahah lol @ Danvers Carew's face at about 58:37 when Jekyll is transforming...

Love this film! It's a true classic! And the black and white silent version makes it creepier than otherwise. Thanx for uploading this one for everyone to see!

  • Also, can someone tell where i can find a newer version with sound :D?

  • @Rdy2goXTR There's a DVD out that combines the 1932 and 1941 versions, starring Fredric March and Spencer Tracy, respectively. If you like old horror but aren't keen on silents, I'd recommend them.

  • Can someone tell me this....

Is this just like the book? Or did the director change a lot of stuff?

  • How do you put ads on your videos?

  • I just got 1:22:00 of naptime.

  • I watched this movie when i was 10 yrs old, but still like it...even I read the book too. the newest version also nice but I prefer its classic movie(1920 version). love it

  • in spanish?

  • That spider-Hyde thing at 1:10 was freaky! No other version of this story I've seen ever did THAT. Not to mention those close-ups on Hyde's demented face. If half the images in today's horror were that creepy the horror genre might be more respected by the critics and public. Great version of this story. It's pretty accurate with the material too.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS :>

  • old crap

  • @nicolaisb2

up yours! you and your generation's 'films' are crap

  • I kind of like the make-up for Hyde alot more in this version and the 1941 version with Spencer Tracy than the 1932 one with Fredric March. Their much more fitting how Hyde's obviously deformed, but in no particularly explainable way. he is described as ape-like in Stenevnson's words yes, but in the way he walks and all not how his face looks. He's also much quieter in those making him pretty creepy and this is more accurate with the story. The 1932 version is probably the most well done though.

  • Mr. Hyde made 20 accounts to dislike this video/movie.

  • Comment removed

  • There was an awesome transition in boardwalk empire from the sniper scene to the darned lucy watching this movie.

  • @AdolphX sabias que bob kane se inspiro en el para hacer el dos caras de batman

  • @fjn12 no sabia o.o que genial gracias por el dato

  • @AdolphX yeah he actually likes the movie,

  • Truly a work of art! I love the reworking of Stevenson's story. I once read that there was a rumor at the time this was released that Barrymore wore no makeup during his portrayal of Edward Hyde. This is clearly not the case. Regardless, it's still a neat piece of film.

  • @whitshade The rumor was that he wore no make up during the initial transformation, which is true. However, that, of course, soon developed into the rumor which you mentioned before.

  • @sstuddert Thanks for enlightening me as to the origin of this rumor. I can see how the true "rumor" devolved into its misconceived descendant. Thanks again.

  • Randy Altschuler STINKS! Vote for TIM BISHOP!

  • What the fuck is this?!?!

  • @ZiewczynkaxD move on bitch, sing at another table

  • why my surround system does'nt work with this movie ? lol...

  • @gserrano69

Hey, don't expect too much from a 1920 silent film! Back then, there was no television and people had to go to the theater to watch this film!

And sound was mono-only in the 20s.

  • Hey, 2:33 Is that the first swear in a movie? I thought the first was in "Gone with the Wind"

  • 1:04:30

    FUCK YES HANDEL!!

  • @fillXinXblankXstares and lots and lots of fugues - great music, great actor, great film all around.
