  • I get them from Tandy leather and Hide Crafters.

  • could you tell me where you get your kip hides

  • Just a thought, you may be doing it already, but on the 4oz Hide try beveling the edges of your strands, regardless, your whips look great!

  • @1914sephiroth. I couldn't have said it better. Thanks. Lol.

  • I have 2 large cow hide sheets and the leather is quite thick and heavy. I plan on making a 12 strand 8ft bullwhip but I am unsure of how to cut the strands evenly and I have no idea of how to combine two short strands so that it will make 1 long strand. I also have the Ron Edwards How to Make Whips book but the combinings of 2 strands examples which are shown are too rough and looks very bad if you can't conceal the connections.

  • @Pantbera you cut strands around the hide, not just straight pieces. that way you get them as long as you

need, even from something small like calf or roo. The only time you need to splice is when a strand breaks,

and you can make it look good if you cut part of your bolster out, hide the "new" strand in it then plait over

for about 6 inches ( you have to unplait everything until you have about a foot and a half of the

broke strand ) then in one motion, you drop the broke, and bring out new

  • Thanks for the advice, I bought Ron Edwards How to Make Whips and decided to try a leather snake whip. I was unsure about what leather to buy, I might try both.
