  • I'd rather just get the photos printed on to paper and save myself a bunch of money.

  • We have own solution for Gesture Recognition Interface with Stereo Camera.

We don't use prime sense solution as laser sensor.

Our New solution doesn't have Calibration step and Skeleton that mean it is easy to apply any general purpose usage.

    Get in my place!!

  • so what if you had that like under a glass table with a projector then you could have something like Microsoft surface

  • @Inversions51 hmm, you'd also need a projection screen and the kinect wouldn't be able to see through that...

  • @floemuc i was thinking about that after i posted i guess you could have the kinect on the other side of it or you could have it up on a wall now that would be cool

  • vo chorar

  • XBox 360 Kinect Console giveaway contest. Infos in my profile.

  • i don't trust my mom with windows .. so i've installed Ubuntu for her

  • I seem to be gettign some make errors on fedora 14 . probably some libraries missing; gonna check it out

  • Amazing job guys, You are helping the Ubuntu community !

  • this is a complete Eye Toy rip off, dont believe me? /watch?v=jYHr0I-iFHE&feature=related

  • @1996bonny The short bus called.. they are one helmet short on their count.. hurry up and get back on the bus.

See that video was NOT about the eye toy. The video is about 3DV system's Zcam, NOT THE EYE TOY. It was a pitch for Sony to make the kinect.

Sony didn't listen to Dr Richard Marks and PASSED on the tech.

    Get over it.

Microsoft's Kinect is in the Guinness book of world records for how many units were sold.

Perhaps Sony exec's should join you on the short bus.

  • Minority Report, anyone?!

  • looks like "Minor Report" is closer than ever...

  • @koobbbiiii

In a way this is more advanced than the system in Minority Report. They had to use input gloves :)

  • Comment removed

  • For anyone looking to implement this system into a game, try Penumbra: Overture, Penumbra: Black Plague, Penumbra: Requiem, or Amnesia: The Dark Descent. All 4 already have a unique physics and interaction system built in that would work perfectly with this software.

  • esta BUENO ESA ADAPTACION

  • i NEED to invest in a kinect JUST so i can use my computer like this , at themoment im using 2 a 2 mouse setup on ubuntu with 2 cursors , one cursor for each hand .... SO not as efficient as this , this is exactly hat iv been looking for , if someone else has done it , atleast i know its doable thanks man (Y) keep up the good work (Y)

  • There are already interfaces that exist that have a "Minority Report" type feel. Not exactly as futuristic and high tech as in "Minority Report" of course, but they do exist. But it's pretty awesome to see that someone did this with an everyday gaming device. Neat. Even though it's 2010 and we don't have the tech most of us thought we'd have by now, we're slowly but surely getting there. Lol

  • @lmviverette

Yes there are interfaces like this but find me one for the price of the kinect and available to your average joe. There is a LOT of futuristic technology that we would have right now and expected to have by now except one problem. There is no easy way to make that technology affordable. Cost is everything. The only thing that can hold the kinect back from taking the next step towards such interfaces is software development. Fortunately, the hardware is there.

  • @ElecJack74 You speak as though this small kinect thing is some miracle discovery. Don't get me wrong now, it's cool that the guy got it to work that way, but FAR from refined and developed enough to imitate the real technology that's capable of that. And it is affordable, for those of us willing to work hard enough to have that privilege. There are smart homes, although very expensive, that have a sense of it. but as for now, really no need for it. People are getting along just fine without it.

  • @lmviverette I do not recall saying it was a miracle device or as refined as those technologies. I simply stated they were not affordable to the average joe. A smart home is a poor example because your average person can't afford one. If you reread my post, you might notice I said it would take us to "the next step towards such interfaces." Not the whole way. The difference is that the kinect is more affordable to all making it more realistic to become useful to the public in the near future.

  • @ElecJack74 Lol Umm, I also don't recall saying that you said it was those things, I said you spoke of it as if it were those things. And no, it's not a poor example, because I also don't recall saying that the average person could afford it, I stated that those of us that are willing to work hard enough to have that privilege. Lol So in the end, I think I got my point across.

  • @lmviverette Actually, I think we both got our point across. Lol Because I understand what you're saying.

  • @lmviverette Actually your "point" never answered to my original challenge which was to find a technology capable of doing what the kinect can do for around the same price. Let me know if you find anything.

  • @ElecJack74 Umm, You presented NO challenge at all so what the heck are u talking about? Those of us with high enough intelligence and awareness of the world around us know that this simple gaming system is definitely not the first nor will it be the last to try to imitate that technology. I pointed out the smart house, and you claim it doesn't count because "average" people can't afford it. Boohoo. It's still an example. Come to New York, you'll see plenty. Lol End of discussion dude. Lol

  • anyway u can make a how to vid i would love to buy kinect now i see wat u can do kinda @floemuc

  • Nice, now I can do in two hours what it usually takes me ten minutes.

  • u should have had schubert's unfinished symphony playing over this too

  • oh yeah.... this dude'll NEVER get laid!

    lol

  • And you don't have to wear those stupid lighted gloves from Minority Report.

  • @gemini6179 or condoms

  • Why are people so into this technology? M.R. was a movie. A movie is a visual experience. So the movie designers came up with an interface design that would look cool visually (instead of somebody typing on the keyboard). They did the same for Avatar's...again, for visual story telling purposes.

In reality, this is not an efficient way to work. Try raising your arms in front of the screen and wave for more than 10min. Unless you work out daily, you will get tired quick.

  • this like the the future o.o

  • you can use the virtual key board to

  • hmmm....last i checked you could do the exact same thing with the move on the xmv with photos ,music and the videos

  • Comment removed

  • Ubuntu FTW! Take that Microsoft!

  • Nice, but all I care about, from sci-fi to reality, is flying cars.

  • Hey is it possible to use kinect to replace the mouse and act like a touchscreen but without touching the computer?

Instead of just moving pictures around, could you be able to open files, play games and work with your computer just by using kinect?

  • @Dalun

I would say that the potential is there. It'll be a long while before something like that becomes widely available for the general consumer and will most likely be a basement project for years.

  • @Dalun that would be awesome and yes it is most likely possible, but i have not figured out, but what you say i believe is the future

  • Ok, so when is "Slayer" going to be released!? I can't wait to play an inmate.

"FYI, if you watched the movie "Gamer" you may know what slayer is.

  • this is AMAZING, and it SHOULD have had the ability to do this. think you can make a video as to how?

  • SOOOOO SLOW!

  • Now all they need to do is invent a hologram projecting device. :-)

  • LOL. Microsoft XBox 360 Kinect hacked by Linux Ubuntu. xD

  • Actually, ghazkul666 has a better pricing method then DJABZuk. Let me educate you!

There are two possible pricing methods a company like Microsoft could do on this product, either Price Skim or Price Penetration.

They have rightly chosen to Price Skim based on the fact they first want to recover as much of their entire project costs as quickly as possible and to do this with a high demand product, they will aim at the people with the most

  • @jonsmyname1

Money! There is surely no issue in this and its nothing new!

I would like to know how many of these PS3 units were sold at a lower cost in this marketing promotion? I for one remember the £500 pricing of the PS3 every where for the first 6 months.

You are correct in pointing out that a pricing method like price penetration could be used to enter the market, but this is only used when the market is saturated i.e. Xbox was well established before the PS3!

    Kinect is unique > price

  • LETS HACK KINECT

  • Idea win! I wish I could control my entire computer with Kinect by next year. Technology does grow up fast.

  • what do you need on your laptop (or computer) to do this? does it only work on macs? and what do i have to download in the link to do this? thank you for you awesomeness x]

  • Now imagine this on Windows 8 or Mac OS XI - Pluto - man they should gimme a job there

  • gentlmen! you can now,,, HALO

  • Megatouch Photo Hunt would be a cool game using Kinect.

  • wow alot of people just buy the kinect to hack it

  • Can you even call it multi-touch? You aren't touching anything but air.

Also, I remember watching a TED video of a guy who did something similar with a Wii remote. Then he went on to make a kind of moving 3D image where when you moved left with the sensor, the screen turned so it looked like you had actually moved to the left.

  • Linux ftw

  • And again, like anything on linux, people make huge technology improvements, only for the benefit of doing so, just so microsoft, apple and other real companies find some real world use to the technology and sell it to people who actually have productive work to do, rather than wasting time randomly shrinking pictures.

  • Comment removed

  • @razorhanny i agree!!

  • Looks awesome! Let me know as soon as I can do mouseclicks, move windows, and maybe even type somehow using this.

  • only linux can do that lol the best

  • @okton6 eeeh - nope - u could do this in windows too :)

  • @sthazeb lol legit my mac craped out on me after a year and a half what a piece im on seven right now but linux ftw windows is beast awsome

  • This might be a stupid question, but do you do you actually connect the kinect cameras to your computer?

  • @IMcoil No. The data spontaneously creates itself on the PC from the kinect. It's like magic but more sci-fi

  • Minority Report!!!

  • link is broken by the way, has extra token '(' appended to it

  • @omfg4all thanks, fixed

  • @floemuc I'll pay you to hack my kinect(s) so i can use them on everything i own. I'm serious

  • watch NEW Video of Kinect controlling Windows 7 and other multitouch apps on channel evoluce1

  • Open source FTW

  • minority report and iron man here we come!

  • ok, it's only up to precogs now.

  • Fan va coolt:D

  • what a fail...

  • @TheDragonlord103 No one asked for your life story.

  • @GeneStarwind09 cool story bro...

  • @TheDragonlord103 what? why?

  • @TheDragonlord103 i know really, you failed so much with your comment.... it could have been enlightening and insightful....

  • @omfg4all LOL Your Opinion Is Bias and Your A Faggot LOLOLOL

  • @TheDragonlord103 mister as licker wants his pet back...

  • @TheDragonlord103 *cough* weeaboo *cough*

  • @TheDragonlord103 *cough* still a weeaboo *cough*

  • @omfg4all Still A Faggot I Presume...

  • @TheDragonlord103

To whoever commented on who starded the internet dumbery: DON'T FEED THE TROLL!

Arguing/discussing/exchanging insults/general trolling on internet is like running in the special olympics: Even if you win, you still retarded.

  • Meh - have fun getting tired arms after 2 mins.

  • your link is not working =( please can you send it to me?

    shadow_479@hotmail(dot)com

It looks great ! great job !

  • try to delete the last bracket :)

  • I think it's helpful to superimpose a ghost image of the person on top of the screen image so that the user can orient themselves and essentially control this set of virtual arms.

I have another method that would be brilliant but I'm considering getting a patent. Or I might cave...

  • Well done sir!

  • Yeah, soon like in Minority Report ! Great job ! Really impressive =)

  • Pc NEXt control like Minority Report movie , thank for all your efforts to hack KINECT 3D camera to use with PC

  • The first thing I thought of when I saw this was Iron Man. I guess we're not too far from having houses like Tony Stark as I once thought.

    Nice job :)

  • Those of you who complain that, god forbid, some company is selling something for higher then its production cost. Are you guys stupid? Every company in the world do this!!!! No company can grow or even have employees if they don't earn something by selling something. Also, did you guys even consider how much money Microsoft has spent researching this tech? ofcoz that has to be part of the selling price or they would loose money big time!

  • @Ghazkul666 Every video game console sells at a loss because the company makes their money back through selling the games. That they sold kinect at a profit shows complete lack of faith in kinect games selling well.

  • @TheRealFrostie No, it shows that they knew how wonderful an object they were creating, and wanted everyone to be able to use it. If they didn't think games would sell well AND they didn't think the hardware would sell well, they wouldn't produce it. They produced it, they're making a profit on the hardware, ergo they believe it's a great piece of hardware.

  • @Ghazkul666 People mostly complaining in the first place cuz the kinect is laggy and shitty.

  • @Ghazkul666: You are plain stupid. Don't you remember how Sony sold PS3 units' under the production cost? It was part of their marketing strategy to maximise profits by increased sales in software (consumers buying the games). You are a plain retard and have very little knowledge in how companies operate (big companies anyway), for you to even make the statement "Every company in the world do this!!!!" You are a complete retard just like the people that liked your post. Congratz

  • @DJABZuk But this is unsustainable for an accessory. If they lose money on accessories and consoles, then where will they make a profit? Accessories are often the biggest money-maker for most electronic companies, especially for devices with proprietary technology. Kinect is an accessories, not a new console. Same with the Playstation Move, which costs $100 for just 1 controller. The Kinect acts as 4 controllers. Its pretty obvious it has to cost more. For new consumers its just $100 for Kinect

  • @DJABZuk Point being: If you can't afford it, then wait it out until it drops in price (which it will). Guarantee: Next fall, it'll cost $100 or bundled with all 360's with far more appealing games. Then it's gonna fly off shelves.

    More price comparisons =

Eyetoy for PS2 cost $70 at launch for just a webcam.

1 Wii remote costs + nunchuck costs $60. 4 sets = $240. No free game. Not to mention Wiimotionplus

Sega Activator = $80 in 1993, which is about $120 today. Thats 1 person. No free game.

  • @Ghazkul666 Dude thank you for trying to explain this to people out there! Microsoft isn't even forcing 360 users to buy the Kinect but so many people complain about the price for stupid reasons. Yes it IS a little pricey, but its not like you HAVE to buy it......just ignorant people out there...

  • @Ghazkul666 I agree but the 200% added to the fabrication price is just overkill

  • @Ghazkul666 Actually Microsoft didn't invent or research this, they expanded upon technology purchased from PrimeSense (an israeli military technology firm).

PrimeSense is in fact, as we speak developing their own "Kinect" for PC use, in collaboration with Asus (i believe). But sure, it probably cost them a pretty penny (considering the kinect was meant for military application to start with - but hey, so was the internet... right?)

  • Hackers make much more awesome stuff with the Kinect in their free time than the payed Microsoft employees. =D

  • Oh God, it's already a "Minority Report" interface! ;)

  • @AndreyGolub My opinion, the best part of the movie. Although the movie as a whole was amazing too.

  • durrr hurr ur usin ubuntu such a noob LOWL LOWL> Why would you ever want an OS that comes fully functional right out of the box!? Use the less user-friendly/more annoying/less supported linuxes so you can be more leet like Phenrir1991 and kris9670 (and invariably many others in the previous 203 comments)

  • The first step towards having a 3D computer like Iron man, manipulating 3d objects with just your hands :P

  • lol UBUNTU lol

  • WooHoo, can't wait to set this up with one of the media center projects out there.

  • Lol @ the notion of selling for profit being teh evil.

  • This is future

  • This isn't illegal, but it is possible that Microsoft could be selling Kinect for less than it costs to build (parts + assembly + transportation) with the belief that they would recover costs on game sales. If this is the case, Microsoft won't be happy, but there won't be anything they can do about it.

Similarly, the US goverment attempted to buy 2200 Sony PS3's to build a supercomputer - and Sony refused to sell them.

  • @winvistainfo

actualy, they already proved that M$ is selling it for 3 times the price it costs to make it XD, you could make it for i think it was 57$, but lets just go for 50-70 bucks to be on the safe side. dont worry bout those margins, they WANT everyone to buy one off them XD

  • @GundamReviver Is it possible to watch anything cool and Linux related on Youtube without having to listen to the rantings of a Internet Leftist?

Your still spelling MS with a dollar sign? What is this, some Usenet group for bearded loser hippies from 1995?

Jesus Chris what is MS going to do, just hand them out for free at Max Creek fests? Maybe set up a Kinect kiosk right next to the dirty girl selling stupid necklaces?

Go fuck yourself you idiotic, irrelevant anti-capitalist.

  • @JohnnyRimShot

yes, i still spell microsoft with a dollar sign. because its still highly apliccable, i mean, they ARE the biggest moeny grabbers ever. and i dont blame them. i do though, still spell their name with a dollar sign, for fun and ease.

also, no im not a leftist, actualy, im a rightist, i LIKE the capitalist market, improving it will be my JOB soon. havent ever heared of that fest you were talking about, its probably a hippy thing.

i wont reply to your shouting, fool.

  • @GundamReviver microsoft spells MONOPOLY! illegal under congress

  • @itsadeadmansparty You're an idiot. You're probably posting this on a Windows machine.

  • @jaycook777 Explain exactly why im an Idiot, im listening

Microsoft is a Monopoly, Ask European Union, Lol They fined Microsoft like 300K a day after they were found to Anti-Trust

LOL dont act like microshit isnt criminal

  • @winvistainfo They already had a PS3 based supercomputer. The 2200 was to expand it. And it was the US airforce btw.

  • @Kyl3o yes - check tisch.sf.net, get the source from the SVN repo

  • Ubuntu?

  • that must be tiering

  • this is soooo cool!

  • Very good

  • awesome

  • the only faggy problem wich kinect is u have to stand far away from the camera thats not that handy when ur working onn a pc but what u made is so kewl its shows how kelw this tecnolegy is

  • good work :D

  • You've made your name and mail address visible in the video...crawling legal gremlinz will come knocking the shit outta your door soon, with the sole purpose of serving your ass legal papers for a legal lawsuit... man, you had such a bright future in front uv ya, and now you blowed it to smithereens...

  • whats the point of this bullshit

better on the 360 thats it

  • @Jullzzzz you fail

  • Whats the point to kinect? Lol

  • nothing original here, but a dam nice first impression

  • @lngun4311 really? nothing original? yeah, someone else made this code weeks ago right?

    rofl

  • @MastaSquidge I was talking about the idea, and he is probably the first person to actually have a working representation.

  • this is extremely impressive. I would like to know more about how you did this.

  • Can you say BADASS?

  • nicely done

it looks like at some points in the video you had trouble holding the pictures, how easy is it to tweak it to be easier to use?

  • As a MT developer, i have to say WIN!!!!! one thing to add for future releases is motion smoothing, since the tracking is quite sensitive (lowering sensitivity is not a good way of doing it) the motion appears jerky.

    Good luck

  • Very nice.. hell it's ubuntu it's free :P *but how the hell did you get the idea?*

  • suck on that M$

  • It's Linux :D

  • kay

  • Surely touch is much easier than this...

  • waaat a geeekkk!!!!!!!!

  • @shunrapper Haha. You mad because you're not as smart? trollface.jpg

  • @jeffhuys no im smart enough but thats true hes a geeek a normal person cant do that

  • Ubuntu FTW.

  • try to load you porn and such with a hand full of loation on that set up hommer dooooh!

  • Send me that driver DDD=

  • This is very cool. now I can control smplayer from my bed using this I'm guessing?

  • @ELCASTIGADOR99 why he is from spain?)

  • It's cool, but not really practical. Waaay faster to just use a mouse and keyboard.

  • @Mycha31 you're missing the point entirely.

  • @veyronman What's the point then?

  • kinect is going to run native on windows soon anyways right? any idea if it will support multitouch?

  • This will be way cheaper than a microsoft surface table :D

  • Whats hacked? I only see an alien with red crosses at his hands, makig weird moves, while pictures ont he screen move O_O?

  • why would this be hacked lol i dont rlly know...

  • lol at everyone thinking it was hard to hack kinect. Microsoft made it easy to hack to hackers like this can make cool applications and work for them for free.
