Basically u link that button to 2 pistons that will move the blocks under the mobs feet. the mobs will fall inside a pool and will be moved down by the current. Lava will kill the mobs (the lava is held up by signs.) Since mobs always want to stay above water they will float themselves all the way up and their heads will hit the lava. The mobs die and the loot channels itself down to a collection point by water. Happy? XD

Here is what I do in multiplayer:

Step 1. Build a house with two layers of wood with TNT in between

Step 2. Build an underground REAL HOUSE with an in case of thief button on the wall linked to the TNT.

Step 3. When a griefer/thief comes along, detonate the TNT.

@CosyBigFoot It's easy, you just need basic redstone wiring connected to four pistons, 2 on either side of the ground. When the button is pressed the pistons open for a brief moment. Below you can make a standard mob farm, its nothing tricky.
