You have to toss it immediately as he faces you and hope he does the pseudo-hadoken. You can also hit him if he re-appears inside the explosion. You only get the card if it's a fresh explosion, though.

One time he kept re-appearing on top of me and leaving for like a minute. I had stayed in the same spot, too!

You can end the battle pretty quickly if you throw Altair off the platform, at least in the second part.

Wow, this brings back alot of memories. One thing that I always would do is go to Altair, turn the volume up and pause the game. I would sit there forever just to listen to the music because I love the two songs that they play during the battle though now I haven't played bomberman 46 in forever because my N64 won't get hooked up! T_T Anyway, good job on beating him, tis a nice video!
