However, as the movie actually only contains "movie-fied" versions of their songs and much more score music anyway, I have always considered that album an entirely adequate rendition of the music.

Isn't that a little weird that egyptian-born (who then lived in Spain) Ramirez has Connery's scottish accent, while McLeod the highlander has Lambert's french accent ? Seems like something's not right there. In the voice-dubbed version, we don't have this kind of problem. When you're stuck with the original actor's pronounciation, we can chose a voice most according to the character. So, there are some good sides after all.
I love this movie, but I hate it in French. Nobody can duplicate Sean Connery's voice. It's pathetic. Why can't they just make their own movies instead of screwing up ours?
Dubbing has never been about "duplicating" the actor's voice. It's about suiting the character well. In this french spoken version of Highlander, Ramirez has a good voice (warm and manly). That's all what we ask. It would be plain stupid to try to duplicate Connery's voice "a la francaise" with "s" pronounced "sh" like he does, that would sound silly in our language. What matters is that Ramirez has a good voice.
May I add this. There are american movies who are very poorly dubbed in french. Because the voice actors don't do a good job, don't impersonate the character's feelings well, etc... But there are also voice-dubbed versions that are even better than the original. Think to it : actors are chosen for their features, handsomeness... While, sometimes, they have a poor voice. But voice actors are chosen only for their voice. So it happens that the voice is better dubbed than original.

Well I don't think so. And I speak as someone who enjoys much subtitled versions. But it's not the same to understand what a character said after reading the translation... and understanding what the character says right as he speaks. With subtitled versions, there is a very slight loss of time between hearing and understanding. You are not immediately involved. You don't react the same.

They're the Scottish Highlands and these scenes were filmed in the Western Scottish Highlands in particular. No-one calls them the British Highlands. We are Scottish not British. So take your imperialistic nonsense elsewhere.

If you're indigenous to England, then your blood will not be the same as ours. Y chromosome testing has proven that the English are indistinguishable from continental Frisians, whilst the Scots are different and the Welsh are even more drastically different.

By the way : a question for our english speaking friends. Isn't that a little weird that egyptian-born (who then lived in Spain) Ramirez has Connery's scottish accent, while McLeod the highlander has Lambert's french accent ? Seems like something's not right there. In the voice-dubbed version, we don't have this kind of problem. When you're stuck with the original actor's pronounciation, we can chose a voice most according to the character. So, there are some good sides after all.

I love this movie, but I hate it in French. Nobody can duplicate Sean Connery's voice. It's pathetic. Why can't they just make their own movies instead of screwing up ours?

Dubbing has never been about "duplicating" the actor's voice. It's about suiting the character well. In this french spoken version of Highlander, Ramirez has a good voice (warm and manly). That's all what we ask. It would be plain stupid to try to duplicate Connery's voice "a la francaise" with "s" pronounced "sh" like he does, that would sound silly in our language. What matters is that Ramirez has a good voice.

May I add this. There are american movies who are very poorly dubbed in french. Because the voice actors don't do a good job, don't impersonate the character's feelings well, etc... But there are also voice-dubbed versions that are even better than the original. Think to it : actors are chosen for their features, handsomeness... While, sometimes, they have a poor voice. But voice actors are chosen only for their voice. So it happens that the voice is better dubbed than original.

Well I don't think so. And I speak as someone who enjoys much subtitled versions. But it's not the same to understand what a character said after reading the translation... and understanding what the character says right as he speaks. With subtitled versions, there is a very slight loss of time between hearing and understanding. You are not immediately involved. You don't react the same.

Few translations are exact, be they dubbed or subtitled. I personally prefer subtitling mainly cause dubbing changes perceptions on characters.

Duke the french make their own movies. They are popular in Europe. Also the latest french film won the cannes festival. French movies just arent popular in the US because they are too intellectual for the average american. By the way US movies are dubbed all over Europe. About your comment with the germans, they are the best friends of French people and even though there was a war they are kindred spirit to the french because both ethnic groups come from germanic tribes. NIKKKRED makes a fair point, the French Film scene is the largest in Europe... not that they don't love American films too, it's just not seen as very cultured. As for speaking German it was only by one vote that the US congress adopted English rather than German as their official language in 1841 so if it weren't for us British I'm afraid you'd be the ones speaking German, ta ta! :-D

This is the best film training montage with rocky 4's training montage. Did you know stallone asked the director of this film to direct rambo 3. But there were some differences and stallone fired him.

Amazing scene with amazing music from a legendary film. No matter that I don't understand French, it is understood in any language. This is how a mare human being in this world becomes a man. @Briselance: sorry i answer u after so many time. well, the majority of french words are drawn from latin - as spanish, as portuguese, as romanian (and italian of course). but none of these languages don't sound so sissy like french. i recon, it's maybe because of sissy french ladds i know. nevertheless, how's your coiffure?
